In this series of videos, I give step-by-step instructions on making a framed square asa-no-ha piece. Part 1 takes us up to assembling the kumiko lattice, or jigumi.
Part 2 • Shoji and kumiko patte...
I encourage you to watch cutting exercises video and the asa-no-ha coaster video as well as this series of videos.
Exercises: • Shoji and Kumiko Patte...
Coaster: • Shoji and kumiko patte...
The saw I use in the video, and the one I strongly recommend for all kumiko work is the Nakaya EAKS D210C crosscut dozuki saw. An excellent saw with perfect balance.

Glad to see you back Des. Your books are fantastic but there is noting like a real life demo in person, and the way you explain in the videos is just as good.

I am glad to see a new video. I have all your books and made Shoji from it for a masterclass at the Russian woodworkingfestival. There are no more useful books in English, unfortunatly in Japanese it is almost impossible to find anything now ...i

Great work Des, nice to see you back on youtube. This is something I would certainly like to try. I'm sure it is not as easy as you make it look
