The KTM 1290 Super Duke stock exhaust is pathetic next to the Remus mid pipe baffle.

Sounds amazing, and imho the best looking aftermarket setup I've seen. as a favour could you advise :- is that the remus midpipe also ? and would the akrapovic map work for this set up or failing that which map did you use ?

+James Friend It is a Remus mid pipe. As far as the map goes, I just don't know. I'll talk to the KTM master tech and get his opinion.

+James Friend KTM provides a maps for aftermarket pipes that are suitable for a wide variety of manufactures.

I got my 1290 SDR last Saturday. I traded a Ducati for it. The Ducati's have such horrible fueling issues (lean surge) these days I couldn't take it anymore. This bike is a dream to ride. It doesn't have quite the big twin charm a dry clutch Ducati has. But it more than makes up for it in other ways. I haven't had this enthusiasm for riding in years. Of course my other motivation for trading was that this bike is much better for carrying my girl on the back. As for the exhaust, I was under the impression that restrictions have gotten so tight in CA that the Akro slip-on is the only thing you can get for this bike. Aftermarket companies have stopped shipping to CA, and Akro is the only CA approved exhaust mod for the SDR (@ $1k I might add). Two different KTM dealers have given me the same story. The only way to get a Remus is to have it shipped to an out of state address first. Is this incorrect?

I know that the non compliant systems will not be sold to dealerships. I know plenty of guys that bought their systems from Ebay and had the sent to home addresses in California. I have also had guys buy systems and had them delivered to an out of state address first. I depends on the seller.

Do you need to do an ECU refresh if you get rid of the cat?

The ECU will adapt if the O2 censors are left in. If you remove them, a new map is required. The way I see it is that I would remap anyway since the maps are available. Why not have the bike perfectly on song?

If the O2 censors are left in, you can use the KTM map without needing a Power Commander. If the O2 censors are removed and a custom map installed, you will need a tuner.

I'm not sure which map they chose. KTM offers several for that year.

***** No other performance mods. The mid pipe swap did require a re-map and it runs spot on.

+Eric Johnson I going to say yes; however, you can install the exhaust and have the dealership re-map the ecu if you're somewhat mechanical.
