So I've almost come to a conclusion with these engines. I helped a neighbour with just this on his mower the other day, he had the cover off whilst driving as it was getting hot. I pulled the air filter out and it was full. That was the same issue with the motor on this video. The client got it at an auction as is. No quicker way to cook an engine than to not clean or replace filters. Anyway, I haven't got around to the compression test on this one yet, but I'm pretty sure by the colour of the smoke as it won't start, that the head got cooked

Brother, I am no mechanic, I just operate a fleet of Diesels is all. Just the other day I had a diesel generator run out of fuel, so had to crack all of the lines to get rid of all the air before it would start. Case in point being, once all the air is gone from the system, they're hard to kill. Which now comes to the Conversation I had the other day with an engineer about this stuff. I had to fix this pump, to discover that the head had been cooked on this one in particular. I fixed the pump, to try and get the engine running, it still wouldn't. I looked at the air filter, and it was that caked with dust, that it being cooked could be the only problem. This thing thing got purchased at an auction cheap, I was simply seeing why it got sold off for peanuts. Why? It wasn't looked after. What I will say in your case, my case and almost every case now is this: I think we need to compression test them first! The test kits are only $30-40 on eBay. If the fuel system is tolerable: it could be the head, a set of rings, a piston, etc. I think these pumps are stopping, because the engines are being turned off for a different reason, and the stuck pump that is fixed in this video, is merely a bi product of a bigger problem. What I mean is, this pump got stuck because it sat for years with old diesel sitting in it. The stuck pump wasn't the problem, just a side problem from sitting around for too long. If your fuel system is reasonable, do a compression test. That may tell you what you are looking for.
