I’m from the area, the only diesel ford offered North America in the ranger was a 2.3 Perkins diesel, and I think it was only for a year or two in 1983 or 1984. Almost all the rangers at this meet are 2002-2012 North American Body style. And either 3.0 v6 2wd, or 4.0 v6 4x4, with the odd exception of the swapped trucks. In the 80’s, 90’s, 00’ diesels were often thought of as smelly and dirty, and for the poor man, so they didn’t sell very well in most platforms, only real diesels that were offered are the towing 2500, and 3500, big pickups, and the odd sedan and suv, light diesel pickups for fuel mileage hasn’t been a thing until recently, because fuel has been cheap as f for 3 decades until now. There’s also another thing called the “banana tax” on foreign light duty pickups in North America, and as the Ranger is actually a Mazda, those rules apply, I won’t get into all the details of that law, but you can google it, it’s pretty dumb, yet another political power grab for USA big oil.
