I’d probably hazard a guess that the pic of him with the kool-aid dyed pink/red/purple hair is from early 1992. That would be around when Nirvana played SNL for the first time, and they taped a set at MTV studios the day before that - Kurt sports that dye job on both occasions, in Jan. 1992. The infamous Sassy magazine photo shoot with Kurt & Courtney, photographed by Michael Lavine, was also shot in January of ‘92 (the photos were published in the April ‘92 edition of that magazine and also feature Kurt with red/pink/purple hair).

Me and my grandpa was living together, and in 94 when we got the message about the suicide, my grandpa said "Why?!! Such so beautiful and nice guy... So good on the stage... WHY HE DID IT?!" My grandpa was 89 than, but he was on the top of news. And we are not geys, it's just a well known theme. I think, he was really not feeling good in his life, but what do we know about him🙄? I am not a big fan of Nirvana, but it's really nevermind, because his songs are alive and his art is awesome.

I'm a Gen Xer too and Nirvana was and is still one of my favorite bands. I was 14 when Kurt died and it was just so hard to believe that he was gone.
