Don't forget a kid got stabbed at disney and they didn't allow paramedics into the park because it would 'ruin the fantasy' for the other guests, so they had a nurse from the park drive him to the hospital in her private car and he died on the way because they got stuck in traffic

I wouldn’t consider myself a Disney adult, I barely consider myself an adult, but as someone who had to take on a lot of adult responsibility as a child, trying to experience childhood things in a safe and stress free environment as adult is something I 100% relate to, and Disney movies that I grew up with can definitely be part of that comfort.

My aunt works at Disney, and has for probably 40ish years? She’s probably the definition of a Disney adult. Every wall of her home is decorated with memorabilia, and she has an insane collection of every snow globe Disney has ever made in these glass display cases. Because my family is lower middle class, and because she had an employee discount, we always had our family vacations at Disney. I definitely still enjoy going to the parks every few years (I don’t have kids), but people can go way overboard. I think sports might be the best analogy. I don’t feel a ton of brand loyalty towards anything, but liking Disney that much is sort of the same as being a huge fan of some sports team and making your whole identity about that team.

I definitely agree that there are levels to this Disney Adult stuff. I’m not one of the eccentric ones but I do love picking one of the Princesses and dressing up during our trips to Disney World. It’s just fun and adds to that magical feeling. Yes, I do get that magical feeling when I’m there. It’s very immersive IF you allow it to be. There’s smells, sounds and sights if you’re someone that truly takes it all in while you’re there. Our kids and their friends that we often take all ride the bigger rides and I don’t. So it has always given me a little time alone to walk around and do whatever I want. It’s a whole experience. I’ve went and got pics with characters that the older kids would have complained about. It’s just a way I get to enjoy the trip as an adult. It’s funny one year I went to get photos with Mickey. When it was my turn he said “ I like your ears” and my awkward butt said thank you while touching my own actual ears. Hahaha smh 🤦🏻‍♀️

I think it’s sweet and chill to a level, mainly enjoying the movies and characters vs objects. A lot of adults have movies or characters they really love and I think that’s normal. But I think the extreme entitlement and consumerism of some (not all or even most) Disney adults is really concerning. It would be like someone enjoying football, watching the game every Saturday, and owning some jerseys vs going to every single game in person, owning every piece of merch, and not liking people who like different sports teams than yours.

If anything, I’m the weird one in my community for still not watching Wandavision (let alone whatever else Marvel has put out on Disney Plus recently) and I’m probably just going to have to accept the fact that if I ever want to have a girlfriend again for the first time in college, I need to seriously brush up on my knowledge of the company and its parks to impress them.

They're not hurting anyone, so why do you care? I actually disneybounded once several years ago, and it was pretty fun! An employee even stopped me and a friend and told us they liked our outfits, and gave us a pass to the VIP seating for fireworks because all the tickets hadn't been bought that night. I've been to Disney maybe 5 or 6 times in my life, but that was definitely the best.

@Austin Lee i don't think this is about being neurodivergent. This is about fans being fans. Its not unique to disney and its not unique to neurodivergent people. People making something they love part of their identity and not wanting to hear cririsim about it happens across the board. Many neurotypicals do it as well as neurodivergent people. OKAY EDITING SO PEOPLE STOP MISUNDERSTANDING MY ORIGINAL POINT. Here it is in plain English: Disney wants money, Disney wants to please people to get more money, if you ask to have your story made into a Disney franchise, they will and they will still want money from it. That’s just how it works. Disney isn’t a charity nor are they the History Channel. It sucks sometimes, but the point I made is that if you ask for something and they give it to you, you can’t force your views on to them if you would have done it differently. Just don’t support it. Criticise the product and the producers, sure, but you can’t just act like they stole it from you first if you wanted them to use it in the first place. Disney makes their profits off of using stories (usually preexisting ones that are a traditional fairytale from a given culture with some serious modifications) and turning them into entertainment. People liked it. People asked Disney to represent their culture, too. Disney listens and uses that culture as source material. They take creative liberties, like always. They sell merchandise surrounding their product, of which the culture is now a significant part of. Now, people aren’t happy that Disney adapted their culture to fit entertainment and are selling items related to that holiday. The expectations are not something that a company like Disney is going to be able to do-they make money, they’re interested in profit, they can’t make every person happy, and they can’t abandon their fantasy branding either. Disney sells Christmas merch, they capitalise on Halloween, Chinese New Years, Easter-all holidays specific to religions and cultures. They have generalised Arabic merch for Aladdin and Chinese for Mulan. Lumiere is a parody of a French person. They make fun of Merida having a thick dialect. It’s meant to be entertainment.

As you can see- I’m a “DISNEY adult” lol although I’m in recovery 🤣 how we all do it is passes. You pay for a Pass and can go pretty much whenever you want. A pass can be as low as $20/month but with limited availability. I had the second highest pass that included free parking, food discounts, merch discounts, and all days are available besides the two weeks at Christmas. I paid only $130/month. But the trick is need you to be a CA resident. I would go home from work, and eat dinner and instead of going out to the mall or something my friends would meet up at the parks. BUT- these passes are changing. (Whoever said credit cards and debt is also right!) too many people had these passes and would over pack the parks- so now they’re changing everything to slow it all down and limit capacities

Also- they sent cease and desist claims to people on Etsy who ate selling Loki deity candles. As in, Norse pagans who worship the actual Norse God Loki. Like, I’m sorry Disney, but you can’t keep trying to trademark other culture’s holidays, religions, and languages???

What’s next Are they going to try to threaten lawsuits to people who study Greek mythology because they made the movie Hercules. Honestly it is so funny how inaccurate that movie is. But I still have to admit it is one of my favorite Disney movies 🤣

This is actually not true. Redbubble removed a shirt copied from the Loki comics because they were concerned it interfered with Disney’s trademark rights, which is would. Disney doesn’t own Loki, but they do own their interpretation of the character and his appearance in the media they produce. Also Disney didn’t even take down that specific shirt anyway, it was the website.

Very late to the boat but my dad has a friend that works at DisneyWorld as a bartender at the parks, and a waiter for the hotel's various events ( for example weddings). He's worked at the park for over 20 years and is only paid 26 dollars per hour, the employees are severely underpaid and overworked ( 11 dollars per hour) and there are people who would gladly take his job. He even covers the fact that most parties would pay a lot for the full experience and let things such as food go to waste; as the company does not let people take home services such as champagnes and wines. Why pay so much money for a party when you would be wasting a majority of the services provided.

First time I ever went to Disneyland (different from -world, I know), I kinda remember we ran into a newlywed couple a few times at the park. I thought it was actually kinda cute, they said they were childhood friends, they used to run in to each other at Disney Land, used to hang around there as young adults (if you’re in the right part of California, some people just buy annual passes and hang out at the bars every other Friday Night), and now they’re spending the Honeymoon together, expecting their firstborn in a month. May still be strange to spend a Honeymoon at a Disney property, but they were both clearly happy and seemed to have positive memories with their general surroundings.

My friend and her family were a disney family. She goes at least every other week, wears merch wherever she goes. They lived on disney property, they could see the cinderella's castle and the fireworks right outside their window. Just one short drive down a long, winding road and boom -- they're at the parks. They had at least 10 disney year passes on their car, and their entire house was disney themed... I didn't realize how strange it was until the last year or so. I guess it's because I like disney and thought it was quirky; but looking back at it now, its pretty insane. Lol.

Yeah and that's why I think the "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" and "let people have fun" is not a very accurate commentary when it comes to Disney. Because participating in something that, at least to me, seems at best a bit thoughtless and at worst almost culty, without addressing the impact Disney has not only on the whole movie industry (basically monopolizing it) and the world (>>literally

@@lvmln7843 what u said I'm pretty sure Kurtis and us- the audience already know, aka they ARE the symbol of CAPITALISM, therefore in order to hold them accountable we have to dismantle capitalism (personally I'm in favour of anarchy 🙃) and obviously that's not an option so why not just let people enjoy Disney (this is where the comment of no "ethical consumption in capitalism" fits in) its not like we can kill Disney off besides there's worser things to enjoy (toxic star wars fandom I'm looking at u 💀) We're already living in a dystopia- type world anyway (covid-19, North Korea, China, Hong Kong, Palestine, Afghanistan, Saudi, America, Google, amazon, apple, inequal distribution of basic necessities .I.e MEDC eating too much and LEDC dying etc) so a little bit of Disney propaganda isn't the worst issue we gotta fix. But hey that's just my two cents, if u lot wanna start a revolution or dress like Disney idrc you do you innit.
