I also think this is part of why the "friendzone" concept exists. I'm definitely generalizing here, but I feel like a lot of guys aren't open with each other about their problems and how they're feeling. They're not vulnerable with each other, whereas women are. So when women talk to a male friend about their problems, and the guy talks to her about his, he thinks of it as a much more intimate thing than she does, and he feels a connection while she doesn't. She sees it as being a friend, because that's how she is with her friends, but he sees it as being more than friends because he isn't like that with his friends. Again, that was definitely an overheneralization. It isnt like this with every male/female friendship. Not every man is brought up with the "get over it and be a man" kind of thing, but it's common enough that this is an issue.

I actually avoid being friends with men, because I feel like they want something more from me. A lot of the times it is not true, but thanks to guys like this or "nice guys" I just don't want to risk anything.

It's also in place as a defense mechanism against questioning the toxic worldview. If men under these philosophies tried to develop platonic relationships with women, it'd force them to address their ideas to a woman they trust. This occurring would risk a reconsideration of the "alpha mindset" and thus cause guys to fall out of it and stop paying whoever got them into it.
