Yeah pretty much. I saw a post on Instagram wishing Black women a safe delivery because we're 4x times more likely to die when giving birth and the comments where filled with "all lives matters" type of people. Lots of "how about we wish ALL pregnant women a safe delivery" and "so black women are the only ones who deserve a safe delivery?" and my personal favorite "Now if I said I wished white women a safe delivery, I would be called racist, but because it's black women it's okay?". I had to log out, because I couldn't handle the sheer amount of ignorance I was reading. And of course most of the comments came from non-black folk, of course.

Sorry to hear that friend. Just try to remember the whole world isn't on twitter. Also, those are a vocal minority pushed towards your post on Twitter because of algorithms designed to show people the most engaging content for them. Most people with sense would see a rocket launch and go "nice," give it a like perhaps and move on with their day. People who are most likely to comment are these conspiracy theorists who feel the need to "awaken the masses" to some BS conspiracy. 🫂

Never in my life I have the feeling to commit crimes. And they didn't want her to abort even she was pleading to, she couldn't support the pregnancy sympthoms. If this story ended as I may think it did. That girl surely didn't survive the birth. Same, I do 2D so I’m not too familiar w cgi but it’s crazy how high fidelity you can get, and seeing the jump between consoles is wild. Not that high fidelity always makes for better art, but it’s cool that you have more options + more range to communicate a design. Like when curly hair used to be really difficult to render not that long ago, now the tech has gotten so good we’ve been able to represent a wider variety of hairstyles and textures. Lmfao that shit is so wild to me. I've seen so many people "accuse" someone of being trans when they're 100% cis (nothing wrong with being trans ofc). But like some conservative will see a cis woman with a square jaw and cry, some dude will just be short and skinny and they'll freak out and do like Level 100 math to "figure out their real gender" or something. It's insane but kinda hilarious from how stupid it is

The strangest take I’ve seen online: anyone who opposes incest is a Eugenicist. Some people on the internet said that premature pregnancy, like 15 or even younger, aren't health damaging and life-threatening, because in the olden days that stuff happened all the time... And someone else said that those kind of pregnancy didn't really exist, because the age at which girls got their period was significantly higher (like 16-18)... I am concerned that I am even breathing the same air as them, and the fact that we live in the same solar system is terrifying...
@yaboicolleen

It is true that the average age for when periods start has gone down, mostly bc of better nutrition iirc. There's actually a throwaway line in the first season of GoT when they're talking about if Sansa has gotten her "moon blood" yet and someone says something like, "High-born girls tend to start theirs earlier," and I was like, "Oh damn someone actually did some research, nice." Also like, pregnancy and childbirth are still INCREDIBLY dangerous without access to modern medicine, that's why dying in childbirth was so common and infant mortality rates were so high. Just bc something might've happened historically doesn't mean it was a good idea!

Triggerwarning, I'm traumadumping the experience from reading comments on a real website I read online. A guy from a WestboroBaptistChurch-website (Don't ask how I ended up there, I was looking for a Harry Potter website and clicked too far, onto a Harry Potter hating website) was telling his fellow Christians that it was his birthday and people congratulated him. He then proceeded to type a lóng story on how he was celebrating the day he was born, because he "ripped his mother in half to make her pay for the sins of Eve" and how he loved the idea that God gave him the permission and opportunity to rip a woman apart like that, destroying her most sensitive parts (also despised his mom, if you hadn't guessed) and the rest of the comment was literally terrible details of how he hoped it happened. People upvoted/liked the comment and said that that'd punish her for being a sinful creature (woman) and that it showed his strength and..I don't remember, he sortof..he described it as if his mother had been a puppae/cocoon that he burst out of on his own strength, like her body was a restraint on him and luckily he struggled and fought his way out, to breathe air, leech off the woman's milk and grow and become the person to dominate the mother (because he was a man and in the religion, she was supposed to serve.) It reminded me a bit of Voldemort and Wormtail.. obviously it's very different, but Voldemort showed the same respect for Wormtails help and sacrifices as this guy, not to mention, despised the memories of being weak and not being capable of dominate others around him. Then again, maybe it reminded me of Harry Potter because I was _still looking_ for that website that I couldn't find.

i am somebody who is chronically ill, i’m in a wheelchair and i cant leave my house without assistance. as a result of that i spend most of my time inside, and a lot (too much) of that time is spent on the internet, so i always get worried that i’m becoming too “chronically online” and that i’m losing touch with reality, and then i see things like this. and my worries subside. these people are both hilarious and terrifying at the same time.

Yeah, I don't think being online too much is the issue (well, it probably plays a part) but the person already has issues that leads to them spending most of their time online spitting their insane hot takes that no one IRL would take seriously.

Same. Chronic illness + pain so I can't work, plus I live in the middle of nowhere, so to compensate I spend a lot of time online or at least with KZfaq playing in the background. I always think that I might be online too much, but at least I still know the earth is round, space is real, transphobia is bigotry, slavery is infinitely worse than a private medical procedure, and autism didn't come from people being afraid of Medusa.

Relating. Can't move around well with many chronic illnesses. I'm inside aside the doctor visits. So being online a lot has been both bad and good. The goodhas been the funny stuff and entertaining movies/shows. Oh and some neat chronic illness people to talk to. That helps a lot. The rest is whatever.
@Lara-gc9wd

Chronic onlineness is less about "I spend a lot of time online" and more about "I've spent so much time in an online space with its own rules, acceptable worldviews, and politics that I've become completely unaware of how the rest of reality functions," or "I've spent so much time curating an online space that excludes any experience, argument or worldview that I cannot be validated by that I cannot actually process or engage with a large range of viewpoints, something that is a vital human experience and critical to developing social skills and personal beliefs" So it's less about how much time you spend online and more about how you engage with the online spaces you are presented with. If you're able to look critically at how much you are online and how that could potentially distort your reality, then that's a good sign you're in the clear

This may be a painfully obvious question, but as someone who hasn’t watched the whole video yet, how do you argue the two? Is it a competition of which is better? Which is worse? Which we should be able to do?
@grimble4564
@grimble4564 Жыл бұрын
@@crazy922blade A lot of pro-lifers like to have the take that abortion is worse than slavery because at least slaves supposedly have agency over their situation. I'd say that's questionable at best. Just speaking about the history of the US alone, even if you did escape, your odds of success were slim. You were way more likely to either die or be recaptured. Even in modern times, it's still extremely hard to escape slavery because people who don't get paid obviously have little to no resources. Your life has been unwillingly placed into the hands of another person and the circumstances of your enslavement serve to keep it that way. In terms of which is worse, I would argue that abortion is way easier to justify morally because a fetus just isnt a seperate, independent individual from its mother. On the realest of levels, whatever life they have while still in the womb is really their mothers life. Since every fetus lives rent free as part of its mothers body, every mother should always have the right to make the final decisions on what to do with that body. The reason doesn't matter, it's her body and she should be able to do what she wants with it. Also just as an aside because this is something that really bothers me. Yeah abortions might be kinda tragic and not pleasant to think about, but it's even more tragic that there are now states where r.ape survivors who get them receive higher criminal sentences than the men who put those children inside them against their will.

“chronically” actually makes a lot of sense in this context! The term chronic refers to something that has longevity and is difficult to stop. people who are chronically online are not so easily able to just stop their habits and behaviors. Prisons are chronically overcrowded, people can be chronic smokers, etc. It’s most commonly used in reference to illness but actually refers to anything that’s continuous and hard to break.

I think it's a bit of both unfortunately. Chronic applies to addictions or persistent patterns of behavior and to persistent illness alike. But the two instances have another factor (the outlook / expected progression / possibility for intervention) on which they differ, making them completely different in nature and ill- 🙃 advised for comparison. I think using "extremely online" is a good solution in this case, so really there's no issue here as I see it (even if chronic is technically appropriate to describe this condition of onlineness)
