JAM has created many custom jingles for KVIL over the years. When we went to take a look at Ron Chapman's top-rated morning show on September 1, 1993 the "Celebrate" package was in use. This video was part of a much longer presentation that was shown in our booth at the 1993 NAB radio convention.

I had the unique privilege of working with JAM and those fine singers when they produced several packages for radio stations in Rio and Sao Paulo, Brazil, during the Fred Hardy, Jr., days... miss that guy!

Can't say enough about how GREAT KVIL was then! I mis those days! Those folks were the definition of class! I've been looking for a recording that KVIL did for Thanksgiving waaayyy back in the early 80's. It was a Chuck and Sandy piece that had personalities like Lyn Malow(spelling?), Larry Dixon, Suzie Humphries, and others, telling their Thanksgiving memories. That piece touchrd my heart and I'd love to hear it again! Anybody out there?

Not true. Carts to computers were just a change in technology and carts could be temperamental. A good jock is a good jock, regardless ... and Ron Chapman was legend. If you want to see a modern-day master, just search for Ron Sedaille on KZfaq. The change for the worst in radio came about due to cost-cutting, voice-tracking and syndication. Radio stations today are nothing more than $$$ signs and a radio jock is a poorly-paid career ... which is why new/young talent is becoming hard to find.

So did CRC, Heller and others. But this isn't their KZfaq channel. It's ours. So we're going to talk about what JAM did for KVIL, which was four different custom packages including the one featured in this video.

Like I said...loved what JAM Creative did. But sadly their are jingle packages past and present that I enjoyed that I wish were JAM but were not. From one JAMFan to another.

I took a whole bunch of Sonfex Car Machines and Tapes home from stations I worked with, when they De-Commissioned them. I also took a couple of Sony MDS-B5 Mini Disc players and CD players as well when they Built a whole New all purpose Building and scrapped the old one. That Package was used by a Station just down the road from Me Heart FM Birmingham UK, I have some of the Cats still. Thanks for Posting this for all of us Who just can't go Modern MP3 crap. Vinyl and CD and Carts Is where It's at. For just pure sound Quality.

I am to young to remember but love the old clips from Ron on WFAA-TV's Sump'n Else bandstand show! Suzie Humphreys also hosted a cool variety morning show called News 8 ETC on WFAA. I guess Suzie always toured DFW in the KVIL-O Van.

I always loved to listen to Ron Chapman Who's name I found out is really Ralph. Ron had a vocal delivery and continuity on the air that few in the business could match. As I am writing this I hope Ron is still living and only retired. He spend a lot of years in the D/FW radiio and television market and I believe was on the KLIF-AM staff when President Kennedy was killed in Dallas in 1963. One of the real great air personalities of all times. I hope you enjoy retirement Ron! Jim in Waco

wb5oxq last place i ever heard this genius jock, and a lot of the former airstaff had a job, or still are there, is at sister 98.7 KLUV. I knew Jodie was there, cause of Jodie Dean and the morning team. Man, loved that show! Hardly get out to NTX often.

Ron had a stroke some years ago, but is still with us. (Actually, he lives very close to North Park Mall in Dallas). Jody Dean took over when Ron retired around 2005, but even Jody has since left KLUV (i.e. a couple of years ago) KLUV's present morning guy is Jeff Miles and to be honest I prefer Jeff over Jody. Jody became very unhappy at KLUV in his final year or two and you could hear it in his presentation. Btw, most stations stream online, so you can listen just about anywhere.

carts were so much fun and it made radio broadcasting FEEL like radio broadcasting ... you ppl today have no clue what the difference is like between everything on a damn computer and having to grab carts, load them in the cart machine, and play cd's in your Denon machine for the music and sometimes music beds even. those were the days, boy!

Guys, did y'all ever do a cart called "Thank You"? (The ending on this particular one went something like "...with thanks for all the things...we...are....and we are...KVIL" with a big orchestra finish. Been looking for that one for years. If it's yours & you could post it, would be most grateful.

are those all 8 track tapes
@JAM-PAMS
@JAM-PAMS 9 жыл бұрын
No. Although they are about the same size as a consumer 8-track, those are professional broadcast cartridges (commonly called "carts") and they work differently. The tape inside runs in a constant loop and it contains 3 tracks: Left and right audio (for stereo) and a cue track. The cue track contains tones which, among other things, tells the machine to stop just before the beginning of the audio. That way when the DJ presses the start button, the music (or jingle) begins right away. Radio stations relied on carts from the 1960s through the 1990s, until CDs and then digital hard drive systems replaced them.

do they function just on single channels than 4
@coffeehigh420
@coffeehigh420 4 жыл бұрын
nope, it sure does look like 8 tracks though huh?! hahahaha these are actually just 2 stereo tracks with the same width of open reel to reel tape and running at 7 1/2 ips (unlike 8 track which runs 4 separate tracks of 2 channel stereo running at 3 1/4 ips. broadcast quality was the name of the game with these cart machines along with instant cuing! happy times, man. happy times in deed!!

Another difference between 8-track tapes and broadcast carts is that the pinch roller, the little rubber wheel that "grabs" the tape and enables the capstan shaft to pull the tape past the record, erase, and playback heads, is permanently inside an 8-track tape, but not in a broadcast cart. Look at the underside of both, and you'll see no hole in the bottom of an 8-track tape, but there's a big hole in every broadcast cart for the pinch roller to pop up through.
