@@sunnyjones8682 Good old 22-episode format bloating every tv show from the pre-streaming era. Season 3 is the weirdest and darkest for sure. It has a hell of a last few episodes though. Funny how these guys get compared a lot. Besides the superficial stuff - using the same actors, using each other's actors, same age, even look kind of similar - they have lots of violent and sexual content that never feels exploitative and they are the most bizarre acclaimed directors of their respective countries.

Definitely one of my favorite sci-fi movies. The more I watch the new movies, the more I appreciate Lynch's film. Not that the new ones are bad. Same, I prefer the 1984 version. It just seemed so much "richer", if that is the word I am trying to go for. The Harrison 2000 version wasn't too bad either, just a lower budget, as it had better exposition than the Lynch version due to its better time length as a miniseries 2 decades before the Villeneuve version also had the same chance to spread out the story details better. The Lynch version sadly never had that chance, even though it was initially meant to also be split into 2-3 parts. However, if you guys haven't yet, if you all want the 1984 version to follow the Herbert novel just a little bit closer & a little bit longer, go watch the fan-made 2012 Spicediver alternative cut. It is at 3 hours long & there is a 4k-upscaled version here on KZfaq (GW channel). 04/20/24

@@kalliste23 I think the new Dunes are great, but in some sense they are just ticking boxes using today's improved film technology. The 1984 version felt more like world building. From Dune to Blue Velvet in the same year of time, is Lynchian in itself. BV hit me so hard when that came out, with the physichosis seepinng into my mind so that I fell I could understand it in another being. Dreams came to the screen, which seems like Davids craft, just as the artist Dali does for me also. Twin Peaks always illicits the David Bowie scene while knowing he was actually dead.. seemingly bringing the dead back to life on screen and dream. Kyle has always had a place in my heart, and this interview is a nice peer into his actual persona. Gr8! Peace ☮💜Love

Thank you Kylie! I hope you know your and Davids' Dune has a cult following today, as I've been a fan since my late teens when I saw it in 89/90. As also a fan of the book, that I read at the same age as you (15) I always saw beyond the movie, filling in the missing parts of the story. It was magnificent! The vistas, the acting and clothing. The real-looking stillsuits! Also the score by Toto was and still is so inspiring. But as David Lynch has said himself it was flawed, cut apart and you really need to have read the book to see it and understand it. However, if it wasn't for the pre-scouted pitfalls of the 80s Dune adaption I doubt Villneuve would have succeded now with the new version. He could build on your creation and made sure that even audiences who hadn't read the book could relate and understand it. Doubly so with his Dune part 2 that can, and for many are, watched as standalone. Yet they get it and find it an enjoyable movie. Nevertheless the new movies could never contain every aspect of the story, show every scene and intrigue. So yes, there is room for both the new and your Dune. This as a fan of both makes me so happy. Thank you for making Dune and Twin Peaks and all the other things. It's given me great joy in my life to watch and re-watch them. Sometimes while making my own cherry pie to eat to it. :) I'm adding Fallout to that as well now that I've seen the entire first season. What a great show and what a treat that you are such a key part to it.

Its actually interesting that as an American the threat of nuclear war didnt have much impact as here as an Aussie in the 80s it was pretty pervasive. The cold war, the threat of nuclear war, it was part of the media landscape and part of the cultural and political landscape. For me it was part of TV, music and art. At elementary school they made us watch the movie The Day After. There were big movies like Wargames as well that had nuclear war as the central threat. So speaking for myself as a child of the 80s, the threat of nuclear war was never far away. It wasn't something I particularly obsessed over as I was a kid and you tend to be much more focus on the present and the day to day, but the threat of nuclear war was always an undercurrent there, like a vague unpleasant smell or a barely perceptible hum that you cant pinpoint but you can feel in your bones. Like I say, I was a kid so I wasn't really losing sleep over this stuff, but it was always there. It just goes to show that even on another continent, the effects of the cold war were strong enough to flavour my childhood. I had thought the feeling would be there for Americans too, but I guess it depends on what part of America you grew up in.

And then Fallout comes out and he's in that too! I hadn't seen him in ages; loved him in Dune, Blue Velvet and Twin Peaks, but never watched Sex in the City, for example. But suddenly Kyle is back. When I was about 13, I was home alone on a quiet Saturday and Dune came on cable. I had a transformative experience watching it in front of the TV. I’ve rewatched all the edits and frequently quote it with my friends today. It remains the definitive version in my mind so much that when I read the book, I was kind of disappointed that a few movie elements weren’t the same in writing. I’m actually a huge fan of the use of sonic power as a weapon as depicted, especially the final use. The new movies look visually interesting but the storytelling just didn’t have the same visceral impact as 1984 did.

I love the D.L. Dune & Blue Velvet. Twin Peaks is my favourite piece of art ever . That is as all 3 seasons complete.

Watched Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet, and Dune while in college. Just fell in love and became a big fan of Kyle's. Can't bring myself to finish the 3rd season of Twin Peaks though. Hope to see more of him in Fallout S2.

I'm very nearly done Season 3 of _Twin Peaks._ Persevere. That's all I can say. Lynch teases us for nearly the entire season before giving us what we want, but he _does_ eventually start tying up loose ends that even go back as far as the movie.

Dune was a GREAT MOVIE !!!! Kyle MacLachlan was a Hero ! It was a great show. I have watched the movie Dune 1984 several times and it is Much better than the recent Dune 2023. I wish this interview was just about His time making the movie . What details could he tell...?

Lynch Dune is good but to say that is better than the recent adaptation is an utter farce. The recent films are a MUCH better adaptation of the source material.

I for one have always loved his version of Dune,I’ve seen many different cuts including the original,TV and fan edit on here and I’ve enjoyed every single one of them..Twin Peaks is and has always been an absolute masterpiece of television but one movie of his that not much is spoken about is The Hidden and that’s a relatively forgotten sci-fi crime action thriller about and alien on the run that hides inside humans and is addicted to fast cars and crime

Casting him was a genius move, he’s perfect for it. I do feel like Twin Peaks and Fallout have a very similar vibe to it but it’s distinct in it’s own ways. Nice interview.

They both make use of MacLachlan's ability to play equally convincing good-guy and bad-guy roles; both series habitually switch between comedy and gut-wrenching drama on a dime, and both series make stellar use of their ensemble casts. That said, I'm not sure David Lynch would ever want to make a series like _Fallout_ anymore than Jonathan Nolan would think to make something like _Twin Peaks._ I see what you mean. There's crossover, for sure but they are their own thing.

I did not know that Kyle was a big fan of the book (as am I). This blew me away and re-ignited my appreciation of him as an actor. I checked his IMDB and was reminded that he was, also, in Hidden. That was another great sci-fi movie!

22:00 I was just thinking, he'll say, "I wore my stilsuit." When he said, "I wore my stillsuit!" Loved it! And glad he thinks there's room for both movies. In the book, stilsuits are worn under robes. So, maybe you could hide it under oversized sweat pants and a big hoodie.

Back in 1986, my girlfriend and i travelled to a nearby capital city where the city's art gallery was hosting an exhibition of some works by Claude Monet. One evening we went to a screening of Blue Velvet , left that viewing quite stunned. Anyway when my girlfriend told her mother of the various things she had seen she noted that she saw a movie called Blue Velvet. Her mother was a regular player with a group of elderly women croquet players and she corralled them into going to a screening of this new movie called Blue Velvet a sequel to International Velvet. The good women went , but lasted up until Dennis Hopper appeared. God I wish there was a video record of them at that screening.

I've seen both parts of the new Dune and I think it was great. An amazing achievement. Still, I prefer 1984's version slightly more and for a variety of reasons. Sad David Lynch does not care for it, but I get it.

He really would have done much more interesting movie if the company would, have gives him permission to do two part movie! He did have to cut so much because of Only having one film… and Lynch is dreamer/builder… and there were not room to build.

Dune is a movie which ages very well for me. I seem to enjoy it more with every watching. A great piece of work. Twin Peaks I like so much for the settings in the North West. The music was excellent. And it had a unique cast of very well playing actors. A unique master piece as well. Thank you very much!

One of the best Q guests in a long time. Great actor. And for the record - there are so many fans of Dune 1984. I am one of them. While I enjoyed the new one, I think MacLachlan's portrayal of Paul was solid and closer. Fallout is excellent and MacLachlan is one of the best parts.

I hope the movie and television industry take heed of the positives coming from Fallout and how they utilized this existing world in such a good way. It owes a lot to the games of course but it tells its own story and has its own unique traits that make the storytelling good overall. Loved it. They struck a good balance.
