Mid 70's . Have a 74 model with a 18ft head. That is a heatbox when you are heading east in west wind. LOTS of full days on that thing. The old chrysler never skipped a beat. Have a good day!

Wow Kyle, bringing back old memories as a teenager back on the farm in 50's and 60's. Spent many an hour on Dad's International 201 14 ft very similar size to your Deere. Then ran one for neighbor also earning $0.50/acre and he charged $2.25/acre. Towed it backwards with a hitch attached to the single caster wheel, so it couldn't wobble, with a 1956 GMC pickup hydramatic. Nice video!

Rotobaler sounds like the perfect project for something to drive you 😜

That machine is too cool! And a slant six. I have a lot of experience with those engines since 1963. Clean air, clean oil and they will last. And an old paddlewheel!

When you said it was to keep the old equipment operating I understood. My brother had a rotobaler for a while. Thanks Kyle.

The 800 does a good job of cutting. That is one nice stand of alfalfa, nice of you to donate the hay Kyle.

My Dad had an IH 10 foot cut. Sometimes we’d take the crusher off so we could windrow the oats destined for seed so it would dry well. I enjoyed cutting hay but then again I enjoyed all farm work when machinery was involved.

If it doesn't have weeds in it, then yes it's worth quite a bit, $5-8 a small square to the right people. The low area I didn't get cut the first round isn't worth much because of the weeds

For us city slickers, how are alfalfa bales used? And an observation, as a kid I would follow my uncle around his farm, and my impression was that he should be called a fixer not a farmer because most of his time was spent fixing equipment. And he had fairly new equipment. So hats off to you and all farmers/fixers for being able to do what is necessary to get the job done.

Alfalfa is used as feed for horses and livestock, much like grass or silage. There are stalk bales that are used as bedding as well

In 1974 I was working at the local John Deere dealer. We were selling brand new 800’s at that time. I’m not sure how long after that Deere quit building them.

Mine needs a little TLC, it sits outside year round as it eats up too much shed space, which certainly doesn't help things haha

Looks like you're having fun. I was camping at a campground that the internet band width was almost 0 and was out of touch with the web. I been home a week and just now catching up with videos. Is there a road trip in Rick's future for bales?

It's due for new sections and a few guards, not too bad for a roughly 50 year old machine

All I had to mow hay with was an OLD sickle bar mower that cut maybe a 7 foot swath. I'd be mowing along and just because they can 2 or 3 pheasants would take of ahead of the mower and scare me half out of my wits...

KC, I like that JD 800, but I’m a little bit disappointed that you didn’t grease it or check any of the oils/fluids before using it. You have been watching the Rick Bork channel too much and he’s rubbing off on you. You’re better than this.
