Very nice to see a proper buggy build. I did order this Optima Mid worlds spec Geroge Russell really won on that livestream, what a blunder by Jay in the live comments 😂

When I had this as a teenager I discovered the connectors at the bottom of the shocks are prone to breaking. Replacing them with the ones used for the tie rod ends fixed that issue as they are beefier.

This was the first RC kit I ever built back in the late 80's. When I saw you were doing this I dug the old chassis out of the garage where it's been hanging for untold years. She's a little rusty on the turnbuckles but in remarkable shape considering the age. Thought I might try and get get her back on the road.. Wondering what would be a good brushed moter that wont blow the driveline to bits.

Wow! That's a great story! I'd imagine any modern brushed 5 slot motor in a 21T should be acceptable. Good luck!

@@laserbeam1620 It's running. Still no body for it but it runs. I used a 17T brushed and salvaged ESC from an RTR. Runs fairly well considering the age. The most amazing thing is that after more than 20 years hanging by an A-Arm the shocks had leaked almost no fluid...

Building my second VS 410 Pro, put in the higher overdrive gears and a Hertz dig unit. Still think this is the best Vanquish Products kit.Also put a Hertz dig in the Ultra. I'm a Vanquish fan doy! Also a Origin and two Phoenix portal kits. Hands down the best kit manufacturer!

Matt those shock Gaskets are known for sticking together. You might have 2 pairs that are stuck together.

Enjoying your Build. But you forget the one part for the upper Belt Cover. 3:33:52 your knippers show the Part i mean. Part nr OT270.

Axial Capra is the next, put a Vanquish 3 gear trans and Hertz dig. Haven't got the 4 steer Capra, Am building aBrazin Scale set up for a VFD trans, haven't built the body yet, think I'm going to use that pinch lexan body or the LC 70 by Killer bodies but think the lexan bodies will be more competitive.

hi there! i just got my optima mid kit! super excited! one thing i noticed, you didnt sand and apply glue to the FRP parts? or did i miss that? does it matter? Thanks for the awesome build!

Sand and glue? Are you thinking of raw carbon fibre parts? That was sometimes a thing, but can't say that it's all that necessary these days. Could be wrong, but not a thing I ever considered!

No diff oil? Curious how it ran on dirt and high bite surfaces without it.

I did not know that these shocks were bottom loading. The original Optima Mid did not have bottom loading shocks. I guess I will have to look into getting better shocks. Thoughts?
