Lionel Andres Messi Cuccittini smh I think what he was trying to say is his “efficiency” is skewed because of his height and the fact that he’s not finishing with dunks. The issue is, when you compare him to his peers in HIS ACTUAL POSITION he’s one of the if not the Most efficient paint scorers at his position. The typical ESPN comment was referring to them trying to make it seem like a bad thing he’s not as good at scoring in the hole being compared to someone who’s 6’8, 100 pounds heavier, and Lebron Fcking James 😂😂.

I'm saying it here Kyrie Irving is the most skilled basketball player we have ever seen. I know people will say I have recency bias, but we know he has the best handle, he a 3 level player, meaning he can shoot from anywhere with efficiency, he has impeccable footwork, has a post up game, and is probably the greatest and one of the most creative finishers at the rim.

Myself and others have been saying this for years. It's obvious that he's the most skilled player ever. Others are now starting to catch on because Max Kellerman (and other tv personalities) are finally crediting the guy. Who else has as complete an offensive game as him? Can literally shoot in any situation, can finish with either hand, can improvise, and can exhibit such a high level of skill in doing so? 🤷‍♂️

The fact that Kyrie is still among those guys despite being a 6’2 guard is impressive on its own. Ofc a 6’6 SF or a 6’10 PF is gonna be more efficient in the paint than a 6’2 guard. Thank you Goldsbery!!! I’ve been saying this for years! Put this in perspective, Steph Curry prior to sacrificing his production for KD, was a much better finisher at the rim (more contested attempts at a significantly higher percentage)... Kyrie is as much of the best finisher at the rim as Kobe is clutch (both hilariously overrated)
@MEDICI92
@MEDICI92 4 жыл бұрын
Last year Steph finished 65% of his shots at the rim (bball reference) and Kyrie finished 62%. Steph was assisted on 45% of his layups. Kyrie was assisted on less than 25% of his layups. In 2017-2018, Kyrie finished 65% of his layups while being assisted on 33% of his shots at the rim, showing the more times he gets assisted, the more his efficiency will go up. Also, Kyrie finished nearly as well as Steph despite being assisted on far fewer layups and taking about 80 more layups with less spacing. I wouldn't necessarily say Kyrie's a better finisher, but he does drive more often and evidence points toward him being as efficient as Steph if he were assisted as much as Steph was. Steph also doesn't have the first step/speed to explode by defenders and get to the rim as often as Kyrie, so that's another factor.

espn do the math . if he has attempted 2,362 on 53.8% , that means he has made about 1271 . he said that’s about 7 attempts per game, but that’s also about 4 makes per game . not to mention , kyrie has dominated so far in these first few games on this new season , meaning everything will only get better . either way , stop relying so much on stats and start worrying about context . if he gets the job done then he gets the job done and it’s that simple .

HE SHOULD CARE MORE ABOUT THE PEOPLE TO REBOUND THE BALL IN THOSE 3 MISSES AND EVEN FOR MOST IT IS BECAUSE HE IS FOULED BY DEFENDERS BUT THEY RARELY CALL THOSE FOUL PLAYS... STUPID IS THIS GUY

Would be interesting to know Tony Parker percentage in the paint. He looks less flashy but more efficient than Kyrie
@Thanosdidtherighthing
@Thanosdidtherighthing 3 жыл бұрын
Probably a more efficient than Kyrie but this video was dumb. Guards will never finish at the rim as good as big men. That’s just the laws of physics. Less dunks and more contested shots. Bigs only have to worry about opposing bigs. They can easily finish over smaller guards

Kyrie's layups are amazing. It doesn't really matter if he makes them less reliably than an open layup. They demoralize a defense.
@Infinityflow0
@Infinityflow0 4 жыл бұрын
Yes, Kyrie does not convert at a relatively high percentage. That doesn't mean you can take it easy guarding the rim. It doesn't matter if his percentage isn't high because the misses come in highly contested situations. Try leaving him with a decent look. This means he can still draw attention and kick out when space opens up. When you have to guard a player up to force misses, sometimes the percentages aren't as significant.

Like what do these nerds be talking bout .... duhhhhhh dunking is more efficient ...kyrie is still one of the best below the rim finishers ever and efficient for a guard who isn’t athletic

Not fair, because Kyrie is the best at finishing, most importantly he is ISO heavy, so most of the time he is driving against a double team and heavily guarded paint.

Yeah I disagree and this feels disingenuous. Besides obvious problems like comparing guards to centers/forwards and wings, the problem is that the chart doesn't show how many times people are assisted versus when they drive to the rim to get shots off. The vast majority of Kyrie's layups come from his own drives to the rim, which is theoretically more difficult than having someone pass you the ball and then finishing. That's why Kyrie's finishing percentage went up a lot the moment he was assisted on more than 30% of his drives like other players above him. He's the best below the rim finisher at his size in the game.

Comparing him to taller players is a bit unfair. But I think this video shows that maybe Kyrie needs to adjust his playstyle a bit...maybe taking more mid/long-shots more often can a more efficient playstyle.

It does not mean that kyrie is a bad finisher per se, but that trying to go 1on5 against taller players contesting you is not a good choice nor a high IQ play, does not make your teammates involved and strongly decrease the team chemistry.
