I went to high school with 2 NBA players (and 1 in college) - they're still very close friends of mine. And through them I've gotten to know others. I don't think people understand how good NBA players are compared to the average person, or even great rec ball players. The one friend doesn't play that much and probably won't be picked up again after his contract is over, but compared to anybody at the gym he walks all over them. It's nuts

I still remember seeing kyrie in HS before he committed to Duke. If I could have bet on him at the time to be an NBA all-star, I would have bet my house. His handle has obviously improved since, but it was magical to watch before he even hit 18. What has always impressed me is his ability to move like a rabbit. He can move laterally at breakneck speed. Maintaining composure of his dribble alongside that is really something special. The only comparison is Pistol Pete. He wasn't nearly as fast moving laterally, but he really didn't need to. He was also a much better passer out of the dribble. He had Jokic-like vision with the best dribble of anyone the next few decades.

You must have never seen pre-Georgetown Allen Iverson then.lol.Iversom could turned pro at 16...he was THAT good...he was so good in fact, he got locked up in high school, was facing 10 years and was already thr number one overall draft pick thr day he stepped foot on Georgetown's campus. Now Kyrie is definitely a better shooter than Iverson but as far as moving laterally, ball control and mixing moves together and understanding pace, Iverson was above par slightly. And he was only 6 feet 160 pounds. Also, Pistol had better vision than the Joker. Besides Magic, Zeke Thomas, Mark Jackson, Jason Williams, Bird or Kidd, I don't think anyone could see the game like Pete. He had had an extra flair with it that Joker doesn't have. Pete would be thr best point or shooting guard into today's game. Sort of like Lamelo Ball but a better overall shooter.

@@WallTrapMedia My favorite anecdote about Maravich, from a documentary, was that when he first got to the pros there was a play where he could pass the ball far up-court for an easy layup, but instead, he rolled the ball up the floor. The guy to catch the ball was so pissed that he just let the ball roll out of bounds and said, "that's no way to pass a ball". The image of it makes me smile.
