I actually like that the ingredients list is simple, the more ingredients, the more likely you are to get irritation from a product, I like short ingredient lists, i feel like people will probably think I work for L'Oréal cause of my comments xD But just like most of you, I used to be so against alcohol and I would never use a product that contains denatured alcohol, that is until I watched Lab Muffin's video on alcohol in skincare, that has made me change my mind! So I am ok with alcohol now

The alcohol helps the product absorb and dry quickly, it is also a penetration enhancer so it will absorb a bit more deeply, makes the formula more cosmetically elegant, I'm guessing the glycerin offsets any drying effect of alcohol cause it has more glycerin than alcohol, I bought it and I can't wait to try it!

@@tomjones2157 Effects of alcohol in vitro on a skin cell in a petri dish or alcohol consumed orally is very different to applying alcohol on real skin on a real person, alcohol when applied topically will evaporate very quickly, it will not penetrate deeply to your dermis and therefore can't touch your collagen lol, also real skin on real human beings has something called "stratum corneum" it is a barrier of dead skin cells that help prevent things from getting into skin, alcohol applied to a living skin cell in a petri dish does not have this shield, they also covered it to prevent the alcohol from evaporating so the contact time with skin was a lot more than in reality

I think there's a new EU law limiting retinol to 0.3% which is so stupid. In the UK you can't get the 0.5% and 1% retinol products from Skinceuticals directly from their website like you can in the US and other countries, you have to get it from a clinic. So that may be why L'Oreal went for 0.3% since they are based in france, other than the fact that 0.3% is a generally well tolerated percentage of retinol

Yes, I would apply a good moisturizer that is hydrated, but doesn't contain any retinol. It will help prevent your skin from becoming dry. A good one is the Acure Radically Rejuvenating Whipped Night Cream, and it's a bargain for the good ingredients in it!

I agree with it may be better if they added more soothing ingredients but I tell you that's gonna make the product way more expensive. Innisfree released a new retinol serum and I am pretty sure the percentage is lower than 0.1% but because of the centella extracts and salicylic acid it's like 50 USD for 30ml. Then again, something is better than nothing but I'd rather pay for the retinol than the centella and salicylic acid for a retinol product.

The thing is: for some reason L'Oréal line is expensive in the USA but very very cheap in other countries which explains some ingredient decision. Take the 1.5%HA which is just around 10 dollars or less in my country but, if I'm not mistaken, you get at around 30 so... :/

I just tried it tonight. By the way, it was about $30 at Walmart. Anyways, the print was so small I couldn't read the instructions, so a friend of mine read them for me. Ok, apply three drops, don't get on lips or in eyes, and use (in) broad spectrum. I don't. Know what that means. So, I first washed my face and then applied three drops, one on my forehead and the other two, on my upper cheek area. For the most part, it blended right into my skin but much too quickly, with the exception of some that gummed up a little bit under my eyes, because I was afraid to get it in my eyes I didn't rub so much there, and by that time I might have used a couple of extra drops, again because it dried up so quickly. I may have proceeded to use a little more than I was supposed to, but I hadn't listened to your video yet. Now I know better. For a moisturizer I use their new night revitalif,t the moisturizer hydrotant. That seemed to make everything all smooth and soft. I guess I'll see if I have any skin left on my face in the morning . Having some lack of sleep here , I got a nice crease on the left side of my face, perhaps this serum will clear it up. A good friend of mine told me, no matter how much money we spend on these anti-aging products, they just don't work and we're going to get old anyway. I was doing good up until I turned 66 and now I think I'm going downhill LOL I sure hope not! Anyway thanks for your video..

@@selb121 I don't think it was worth it. Also, it caused me to have minor breakouts. I believe the lady that reviewed the product in the video, said she had minor breakouts. I got little red bumps, early on using it. I got a little red bump at the top of my eyebrow, that, for months, hasn't gone away. I am in my sixties, and have never had any skin blemish, or a pimple. L'oreal night creme is nice, and I've used the loreal facial moisturizer for years. I won't purchase the retinol again, because of the red bumps it caused. Also, the directions say not to get on your lips, so that's kind of confusing. Of course I'm not going to apply it on my mouth, but aging, I notice little lines appear in the area between lips and nose, which you don't want. I tried to apply it very carefully in that area. It is the same around your eyes. Thanks for asking, but I'd suggest the revililift night creme, with retinol. I suppose the real way to go is to a plastic surgeon, rather than spend hundreds a year on facial treatments that may or may not work. As you probably know, all the instructions suggest you wash your face before applying. Washing you face every night and every morning with plain old Dove soap, keeps your face fresh, clean, and works to keep your youth a while longer. Really, I gave the retinol stuff a go, for a full thirty days. There wasn't any noticable difference.

L'Oreal will probably never make a 1% retinol product in the L'oreal paris range, l'oreal paris has never been about serious skincare until recently with the derm intensives range cause of the trends in the beauty community, for 0.5% and 1% they like to do those in their skinceuticals range, its why they do skinceuticals, thats their top of the range line, cause anything more than 0.3% can be really irritating and they want nothing to do with it, so they leave it for more professional ranges like skinceuticals

I'm gonna guess that this retinol product makes your skin more sensitive than others either because you are sensitive to one or more of the ingredients in the formula or because the other retinols you buy from indie brands do not have stable retinol so you weren't even getting much if any retinol to begin with , with this product the retinol is very stable.

Denatured alcohol isn’t just put in skincare for quick drying times. Its also used to make formulations more lightweight in texture, help dissolve ingredients that water can’t, and it can act as a penetration enhancer. Volatile alcohols can be irritating or agitating to those with sensitive skin or a compromised skin barrier, but ultimately whether or not its drying to the skin comes down to formulation.
@EJS611
@EJS611 3 жыл бұрын
August It can cause contact dermatitis in some cases, but thats a bit misleading of a claim to make a huge concern out of. Most people won’t have that reaction to it, and there really isn’t enough evidence to prove that it will cause that kind of reaction overtime, same as fragrance. Fragrance is actually far more tested to be safer than essential oils for example. In fact, a lot of fragrance is just essential oils that has been modified to have the irritating or allergenic components of the molecule removed by the chemist in a lab to make it less irritating. Furthermore, all the reasons I stated are valid legitimate reasons chemists will use it in skincare formulations. Its not exactly great for sensitive skin, but its not the devil people make it out to be and theres a lot of misconceptions on the potential negative effects of it in skincare. I’d highly recommend you check out Lab Muffin Beauty Science. She has a PhD in chemistry and educates about the science behind skincare in a really informative and easily digestible format. She actually made a blog post and KZfaq video with KindOfStephen (another blogger who is an active cosmetic chemist) going over the subject of alcohol in skincare and actually gave me a new perspective on it, and I used avoid alcohol like the plague in my skincare myself! labmuffin.com/how-bad-is-alcohol-in-skincare-really/

August Except chemists are the ones who make all the products dermatologists recommend in the first place. There would be no skincare products in stores or at dermatology clinics without them being behind the formulations. Not sure why you’re making baseless criticisms of the validity of cosmetic scientists when they are equally as much qualified experts as derms. Don’t you think thats a bit elitist and in poor taste?
@EJS611
@EJS611 3 жыл бұрын
August August Derms are not the only experts, sorry 😬🤷🏼‍♀️. There isn’t a dermatologist out there who would bash or disrespect chemists anyways so I’m confused as to what your problem is with them. As for the formula of the product on this video, Sarah has the right to her experience, I’m not gonna invalidate that. I wouldn’t exactly reach for this at first glance either. But considering the alcohol present even in prescription retinoids, I wouldn’t say its really fair to blame it ALL on the alcohol.

She has always had beautiful skin but her cheeks and forehead looked like when you use those face masks that dry and you peel them off. I gave her some products and lots of oils to use and it's taken nearly 2 months to start getting healthy skin again. They were terrible products. Why does l'oreal do this? They are such a huge company with access to the best ingredients but they put out this crap that literally ruins peoples skin. 😩💚

And L'oreal doesn't have a problem testing on animals

Yeah cause they sell in mainland china, don’t blame them though, China is a massive lucrative market, they haven’t tested on animals on over 30 years, long before the law banned it but just because they don’t do it themselves doesnt mean it doesn’t happen, even they admit that chinese health authorities will test some of their products on animals, so no denying that their products are being tested on animals but only in china which is so stupid, i really wish china would allow brands to access the Chinese market without needing to test their products on animals

L’Oréal says that in order to ensure their products are safe, they apply them to real skin 600 times before they are sold, Honestly all major brands test products and ingredients for safety very extensively before selling a product because they have the resources to, same with estee lauder companies and Neutrogena, I just tend to trust them more than smaller indie brands but yeah I can understand the animal testing thing & all of that doesn’t change it

@@freedomlife5968 Thanks for all the info, I agree it's complicated. It's good to take a peak on some "non tested on animals" label certifications and check them as they can offer guarantees on products offered by smaller brands. I like to encourage smaller brands has I feel they can have more ethics.Encouraging these brands will make them bigger in the future which could contribute to the animals suffering less.

They advertised this product on the Talk and they said that it was not tested on animals. So was it tested on animals or not? If so mine's going out the door . Thanks anybody who can answer me.
