This video brings back old memories. Driving Daytona in a C3 Corvette for the 1975 IMSA Paul Revere 250. Unfortunately neither I or John finished due to mechanical problems. But it was fun while it lasted. ThoseC2/C3 cars were a blast to drive.

I was there that night, also at the '75 Sebring and a few 24 Hr Daytonas late 70's. Always enjoyed following the Corvettes,still do.

What a monster--the massive rear tires spin freely in lower gears. Driving on ice and snow was always good practice for driving a high powered Corvette.

What an excellent driver, managing BBC power constantly and using it when needed.

You can tell he wanted that other guy for the brake-check early on. He got him too.

I didn't know about the Greenwood Vettes until I seen a crazy Hotwheel with my name on on it, now I'm educated on the history.

Wow. That thing looks like quite a handful to drive.
@williamhendrix32535 жыл бұрын
that car looks like a handful, loose on corner exit is to be expected, but it’s getting big time sideways under braking too

That exact cam ran great in my 68 Camaro 396 M20 4 speed and 12 bolt with 513 Eaton pro gears. This was my every day work car at 19-20 years old. I also ran that cam in my 69 Impala Custom 427. Kinda lazy on the bottom in that car but pulled hard on the top end. Tuscaloosa 79-83.

Let us remind ourselves just what the Greenwood 'vettes showed the world. When the hammer came down in top gear on the back straight it blew the doors off all the exotics. Think 'Ole Yeller, on steroids..

A 76 widebody Greenwood Vette consistently hit 220 mph down the Mulsanne straight at LeMans and was the fastest car on the straight.

Love the C3s and the Greenwood Vettes. Always a handful but fast ! Nice drive Jules.

Wish we knew what kind of speeds hes hitting in that Greenwood prepped C3 Corvette on the straightaways & in the curves! 👀🏁

I nearly shit my pants when he slid the Big block thru the bus stop what a ride ....My hat is off to the driver with Aggitt's large enough to even attempt such a thing ...

This thing is a f*ing monster. Love how hard he pulls on that radical in the 2nd lap. Loose sloppy back end with gobs of torque.

Have to say this car in Raceroom drives **exactly** like what I’m seeing here. Which is kinda cool.

A time when sideways was faster ! Big power and no downforce
@JuanCostamagna6 жыл бұрын
sideways never was faster, is just a waste of time...
@HipsterNgariman6 жыл бұрын
No it is not, but we should be able to enjoy how racecars were made back in the day
@JuanCostamagna6 жыл бұрын
I enjoy this type of cars but I will never say "old times was best times" or "sideways was faster" as a total truth like you do...
@carscoffeeandcannabis-6345 жыл бұрын
@@JuanCostamagna While full slides were never faster, a little bit of opposite lock on corner exit in exchange for getting on the power sooner WAS actually faster in older cars. That's why you would see racecar drivers (who's goal is obviously to go as fast as possible), working the wheel so much in everything from the Lotus 49 to older touring cars etc. Plus, these cars were not easy to drive fast. If you aren't close enough to the limit to kick the back end out occasionally, you are driving well below the limit, and chances are, are going slower than the competition who are driving on a razor's edge
@Catz01254 жыл бұрын
@@carscoffeeandcannabis-634 Hit the nail on the head. While I have no experience driving this car in real life, this is how it is in the sims. If you're not driving on the edge of breaking loose, you're driving slow! This car is all about straight line speed, the earlier you get on the power, the faster your lap times get.
@budpool91744 жыл бұрын
Back in the day, NO bus stop on the back straight

Restoring, repairing, tuning and driving so many BB mid-years, you eventually get used to the left/right/straight dynamic and adjust to having to crank in so much steering until it grabs. So baddass.
@bruces3613 Жыл бұрын
Looks like it was cold, those tires started gripping after the first two laps. Must have been like a top fuel on ice before.

Is it a prerequisite of a big block racer that it is so gorgeous it lures you in but then pretends it wants to kill you? But what a way to go.

Are you sure? If it's really an L88 that's only 7 liters at 427. But then only the team members really knew what was in it.

Those are real races with real vehicles with real engines, that is if the pilot is racing if he is a pilot.
