As a Ranger Fan this was an incredible run that just ended up short. Much respect to the Kings. They deserved it with those comebacks in games 1 & 2.

As a Montreal fan, I thought at the time that Canadiens would win against Rangers. But of course, Price got injured by Kreider! Some people argued it was on purpose or not, but it doesn’t really matter. Nothing against Rangers or Kreider (I actually like them), I was just pissed and thought Price would get less injured, boy was I wrong!

3rd round. Kings-Blackhawks. Settled in in Ohio. When the Kings got to the 3rd round I HAD to get to a game. So I went online, bought a ticket, booked a room in Chicago, gassed up the truck and drove the roughly 7 hours to the United Center. Game 5, when Michal Handzus broke our hearts in double-OT to extend the series. Had the Kings won that night we'd have been watching a handshake line. Not many Kings fans in the house that night but we all gathered at the bench during pregame and did a selfie.

2014 was the first time the Kings and Ducks faced each other in a playoff series. I had to watch the playoffs on TV because a few months earlier my employer dropped a bombshell on us that lead to my relocating to the Midwest. I missed most of the 1st round due to being on the road from SoCal to Ohio and getting set up in a new apartment outside Columbus. Fortunately the TV installer got there in time for me to watch Gms. 6 & 7. Great comeback being down 3-0 and coming back to win the series. Second round vs. the Ducks was brutal. Most people forget that the Kings went up 2-0 in the series before the Ducks won 3 straight to go up 3-2. Then the Kings won Gms. 6 & 7. Kings win the Battle of California because it was the first Cup championship by a CA team in which the winner went through the other two CA teams to get there.

So many tiny things could have happened differently and completely flipped that finals outcome. If the Rangers won those OT games, they’d be the 2014 champions. I had a real hard time forgiving Nash for his piss poor production in those finals. He really could have been that extra push we needed to win it. God I’m still really salty about this

An amazing playoff run for the New York Rangers. I think each round went to seven games till the Finals where they just ran out of gas. I loved that team. What a great blend of hard nosed defense and grind it out hockey. What was interesting about that Stanley Cup Finals, the New York Rangers had the lead going into the third period every single game. This was the defining moment of Henrik Lundqvist. By the end of the series, I can’t say enough great things about Henrik but...Y’know a Stanley Cup goaltender has to slam the door on the opposition especially when his team gets the lead.

This play-off was hard to watch as a fan of the San Jose Shark. The only thing that possibly could console me a little bit is that LA went and won the Stanley Cup but loosing 4 in a row after a 3-0 lead is was heartbreaking.

I was cheering for Anaheim in this playoffs because of Bruce Boudreau and I sat down to watch that game 7 with the Kings. And the Ducks fell behind I think 3-0 after 10 minutes and I turned it off. Because I had seen that movie before with Boudreau and the Caps and didn't want to put myself through that again.

It makes it even more hurtful because the Rangers had a lead in 4 out of those 5 games. Twice with a 2 goal lead. But as Celine says: My heart will go on and on...

I have to say this because of my pride.... The cup final that year was between Chicago and LA. The two best teams had an epic showdown in the WCF and it all came down to a lucky- or unlucky play depending on your fandom. All respect goes to the NYR who were the cup challenger from the east, but in my humble opinion the Blackhawks and the Kings just had too much firepower for anyone else to handle.
