@@clothilde1623 for me the reality is that England forced the other three countries to become part of the UK by the barrel of a gun. Yes, you have the Act of Union by the Scottish and English parliaments, but this was most likely accomplished by the bribery of Scottish lords and members of Scottish parliament. Also, most of my fellow Americans don't pay such close attention to the details of European history. I, however, have a history degree and have kept studying European history for decades.

For us Brits who are NOT English it’s incredibly infuriating. Imagine if Europeans constantly called the US ‘California’ (or any other State). I imagine that would get rather grating for Americans from the 49 other States. Well it’s the same for every person from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland every time the UK or Britain is referred to as England. And don’t even start me on your compatriots’ use of “British accent”!

How do people in South America feel about that, or Canadians, or people in Central America? I have family in South America (Colombia) that have quizzed me on this very topic, asking me whether I consider them to be "Americans" too. So we all do a little of this. I agree though that many of my fellow United Stater's should learn the differences to which you're referring, but they mostly learn U.S. history in school. I can tell you that they really don't mean any disrespect and most of my fellow citizens hold a special place in their hearts for Ireland, Scotland, England and Wales since many of their ancestors came to America from those nations.

You think Britain under the Tories was "great"? 😂😂😂 When the Tories first took power, Britain had some of the best living conditions and economy in the world. Now as they leave, Britain is trailing far behind the rest of western Europe, and the majority of the country outside of London are suffering in living conditions that even us lower-middle class Americans would be (and are) shocked to see. They have to ration their use of gas or energy, and all services that have helped impoverished people for decades have been gutted by the Tories. If you can't see the damage they've done, then I don't know what to tell you.
