It's time for another Vintage Recipe! Love is in the air, so I thought it would be fun to try out a vintage Valentine's Day recipe from my 1959 Better Homes and Gardens Holiday Cookbook. Nothing says 1950's Valentine's Day better than Strawberry Jello Hearts.
Better Homes & Gardens Holiday Cookbook 1959
Recipes:
Gelatin Heart Cutouts-
Dissolve 1 package cherry, strawberry, OR raspberry gelatin in 2 cups hot water. Pour into shallow dish- gelatin should be a little less than 1/2 inch deep. Chill until firm. Cut out hearts with a cookie cutter.
Strawberry Hearts-
1 10oz package frozen strawberries, thawed
1 package strawberry flavored gelatin
2 cups heavy cream, whipped
9 gelatin heart cutouts
Drain strawberries, reserving syrup. Add water to syrup to make 1 cup; heat until simmering. Dissolve gelatin in hot liquid; add drained strawberries. Chill till partially set. Fold whipped cream into gelatin mixture. Pour into heart shaped individual molds, chill until set. I mold. Top with gelatin heart cutouts.
Top with whipped cream and reserved strawberries.

Laci‼️ I absolutely LOVE everything about this video‼️ Your dress, your apron (yes, I have one very similar that was my grandmother's), the cookbook, the recipe you chose, the outcome, the dishes you used. ALL OF IT ❤️ I adore seeing the vintage items in your videos. My kitchen cabinets are FULL of these vintage dishes and bakeware handed down to me by my own mother and grandmother. I'm nearing 60 and I remember these dishes from my childhood. I still use them. I may have mentioned this once before, but I cook from a 1960 Better Homes cookbook that my parents received as a wedding gift in 1960. To see your 1959 holiday cookbook published by same co. is heartwarming. Today especially, you look so much like my grandmother's in their younger days when their children were little and they had their whole lives ahead of them. They've both gone Home to Heaven now, but today's video and jello recipe took me right back ❤️ Have a most wonderful day. We'll see you soon ❤️

Can't believe I finally got current episode!! Lol. With this weather, the satellites are really being affected. The video plays a bit then spins forever, then plays. I'm sure you are bitter cold. I'm 35 miles northeast of Dallas and we have been without power, twice mine has gone out but thankfully back on. We were at 3, with wc of -17, I think we are at 9 now, very unusual for us, I'm sure not for you in Utah. Our wind is the most bitter I have ever experienced. Chicago has nothing on our winds. Go right thru you. I love your channel, Laci, I grew up in the 1950s and you bring back such wonderful memories. I have many of the things you show and remember all the really wonderful clothes. I guess you loved that era enough to go all in for it. Good for you. Thank you for sharing all your wonderful finds and memories. I'll keep an eye out for patterns for you.

This is so adorable. I guess jello was the thing during the 50s. It made a comeback during the 80s...my mom was probably thrilled that she could let us kids make dessert without fear of us blowing up the house. 😂

I may be wrong, but I think my Grandma made the same recipe but put the strawberry jello in an 8 inch heart mold. She used cool whip, & then after she popped it out, she served it with pink iced sugar cookies that were hearts too. 💗

You know the 50's better than me and I was born in 1949. I LOVED the 50's more than any other decade. I thought about having either a 50's kitchen, living room or bedroom but just don't have the conviction, time or money to do it. But I LOVE watching your channel. Brings back so many memories!

Not only do you look adorable in your vintage Valentine apron, attire and decor, but you tackled a recipe I would have thought was time consuming. It looked better than the picture in the cookbook and looked delicious. I have seen that cookbook and never bought it. May just have to get one next time I see it. Happy Valentine's day.

The dessert looked very yummy! You looked so pretty and trim in your Valentine outfit - have you lost weight? I’m a widow, so tend to not acknowledge the day. Some years, when I’ve felt motivated, I’ve sent Valentine goody boxes to several nieces who happened to be single; that was a lot of fun to do.

Super fun and cute Valentine’s Day dessert. I did a vintage heart coffee cake from the Betty Crocker’s Party Book. Super yummy. ❤️❤️❤️ I absolutely love when you do vintage recipes. I’m going to save this recipe to do for my hubby’s birthday. He loves jello .

I always enjoy your cooking videos, Laci. Takes me back to when I was growing up in the 70s and my mom would use the molds for jello desserts. The one with the spritz cookies really took me back, too! Your outfit is perfect, as always!

I just want to say that i appreciate that you haven't gone off in some other direction with your channel as ive seen other creators do after they hooked their audience. Maybe they ran out of ideas or got bored or found a different hobby ... but it just feels frustrating as a viewer. I watch your episodes before i go to sleep to get my mind off the day and in a relaxed mood. Thank you for the content. I have no complaints but i wouldnt mind seeing more sewing content just because i am exploring sewing outfits from that era. Again... love what you do. Keep up the great work! Thanks.

I had no idea how much jello was a staple in fine mid century entertainment. Cracks me up! I absolutely cannot stand the texture of jello, but maybe folding in some whipped cream does all the magic. Jello tip for popping molds. Low heat hair dryer. Don't go crazy bananas with it. Just shake it on low heat about 8 to 12 inches from your mold for a moment and your molds should pop free.

That came out so cute. we don't technically celebrate Valentines day either, but this year I decided I would decorate the house with the theme and bring out all my outfits that matched the theme, ex red, pink, whites etc. I love decorating and themes as well.

Great job. You forgot to spray non- stick onto your pans before you put the jello into them. Prevents sticking. So pretty, Yay Happy Valentine's Day.

Ohhhh you look so pretty!! I bought that book after you showed it on your other video. It was printed the year I was born :) This is the kind of recipe that we need to make sure we have plenty of room in the fridge for lolol. You can take the jello scraps, mix it with left over cream and any fruit leave it to chill so no left overs. And yes, always spray your pans. Your dessert turned out great ! Love it!!! Loved it I have a recipe similar to that it's called cranberry orange souffle it just has cranberry sauce and some orange juice with the raspberry jam and whipped cream and I found a vintage cornucopia of those little metal pans but I dipped it in the hot water a little too long so when I put it on the platter it kind of look like a melting pink shrimp instead of the cornucopia but you live and you learn as you go along in life so now I know not to get too long and put it back in the fridge

That looks seriously sweeet and good! I agree themes are fun! I have some family members who are really into it and when I go for a visit I know it's going to include at least one themed party or dinner, it's really cool. I have to admit that I'm not big on this holiday either, somehow what started out as temporary help to a friend, has ended me up in the floral industry for quite a few years now, so this holiday in particular, equals a lot of extra work in helping others express their thoughts and gestures of love, but I do believe as you said exactly!

This is so fun - you would love the lime jello with pineapple and cream cheese dessert too - the texture on that is so good to - I think it’s from the 50s too ❤️
