Let's do some Christmas baking! We're making some treats for the neighbors in this week's video. I tried my hand at fudge, spritz cookies, and gingerbread cookies. Hope you enjoy this vintage baking episode!
Remarkable Fudge:
4 cups sugar
1 2/3 cup evaporated milk
1 cup butter or margarine
1 12 oz package semisweet chocolate pieces
1 pint marshmallow creme
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup broken walnuts
Butter sides of 3 qt saucepan. In it combine sugar, milk, and butter. Cook over medium heat to soft-ball stage (236) stirring frequently.
Remove from heat and add chocolate, marshmallow creme, vanilla, and nuts. Beat till chocolate is melted and blended. Pour into a buttered 9x9x2 pan. Score in squares, while warm, cut when firm.
Spritz cookies
Thoroughly cream 1 1/2 cups butter or margarine and 1 cup sugar. Add 1 egg, 1 tsp vanilla, and 1/2 tsp almond extract, beat well. Sift together 4 cups flour and 1 tsp baking powder, add gradually to creamed mixture, mixing to a smooth dough. Don't chill!
Force dough through cookie press onto ungreased cooky sheet. Bake in hot oven 400 degrees 8-10 min.
Soft Gingerbread cookies
2 1/4 cups flour
2 tsp ginger
1 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/2 tsp cloves
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup butter softened
1 cup white sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp water
1/4 cup molasses
4 tbsp white sugar
Preheat oven to 350
mix dry ingredients and set aside
cream butter and sugar, add in water and molasses. Gradually stir in dry ingredients. Roll dough into walnut sized balls and roll in sugar. Bake 2 in apart on ungreased cookie sheet 10-12 min.

When we moved into this neighborhood in October, a lady came over with a batch of homemade Pumpkin cookies to welcome us. I knew we were home! Our house was built in 1958 and has all the charm of that era. Our neighbors are so kind. I will be making cookies for them this year. Thanks for the recipes!

That's a mid century stove. The kitchen layouts and gadgets were so handy and made so much sense in that era. Now everything is made disposable and kitchens are not made so convenient for the average individual anymore

Back in the 50’s my mom worked in a jewelry store. She made old fashioned Hershey’s fudge, pulled peanut brittle and divinity. They were stored in wax paper in dress boxes. She made platters of candy for the jewelry store. Needless to say people came into the store just to sample her candy. My dad bought her a gold Rolex watch from that store.

Started my day out with your video of Neighborhood treats. My Mom always made spritz cookies for us as kids. I have her press and so I share my Spritz cookies to my brother and his grown children every Christmas along with Mom's soft sugar cookie. I add a pineapple cookie, too. We always had to have that at Christmas. The guys in the family love that cookie the best. I do this in honor of my Mom who has passed away to keep her memory alive at Christmas. I think this year, I will actually use the Christmas apron she made for me when I got married. It has always been in the closet never used. You inspire me so much, Laci. That is exactly why your channel is growing. You are sweet, genuine and remind us of a time when life was simpler and good.

I LOVE your videos, your style, your presentation, everything‼️ Our home was built in 1936. Over the last 40 years we've lived here, we've attempted to keep the integrity of the vintage style in any re-do we've done. I also use a Better Home and Gardens cookbook that my parents received as a wedding gift in 1960‼️ My own family has been the benefactors of my 1960 recipes ❤️

One thing I love about you and your lifestyle is that you have that old fashioned giving to neighbors like it used to be. That tradition would be wonderful if it came back in 2021. As your making those spritz cookies, I could taste them! Bought my cookie press at a Salvation army ( complete with box and all it's parts) my kids had a field day making cookies with that thing! It had a screw pump rather than a plunger, so a lot of laughter and scraps of dough that didn't make the grade that ended up in the " scrap bowl"! Thanks for the memories!

Merry Christmas, Laci! I have the same Christmas apron (minus the kitties) that you are wearing. I love vintage Christmas aprons. We put a table top tree on a vintage tablecloth covered table and then I pin the vintage aprons to the edge of the cloth to form a "skirt" around the table. It's fun to just look at them on display! I was impressed with how accurately you measure your ingredients when you bake. Very well done!!!

And I recycle collected cookie tins for Christmas where I load them up with my homemade butter tin cookies. And people are always glad to open them and not see buttons or sewing supplies in them lol. And the kids love making sugar cookies and decorating them together. Super cute cookie press love it! So happy to see you having fun. Happy Holidays!

I remember my grandmother trying that recipe a few times in the late 60s early 70s and a lot of people really liked it. I didn’t like it because I really loved her creamy million dollar fudge that didn’t have the marshmallow cream in it. My grandmother also had the cookie press and made the spritz cookies too. Little tip, have all your ingredients measured ahead of time, and the pan prepared ahead of time. Looks like you did. Great job. 😊. I love the spritz cookies! I put green food colouring in with the margarine so it gets all incorporated evenly and use the tree disk. ❤️❤️❤️❤️. I never sift the flour. My Grandpa used to work in a candy store in the 30s/40s and made fresh candies every day. I used to make the same fudge he did without marshmallow.

Just discovered your video's and have been binge watching with great enjoyment for severral days now. I too love all things vintage and 40's are my favorite period, but in past few years have started appreciating the early fifties as well. BTW, you were struggling to smooth the top of your fudge with a regular knife--what you need for this, as well as cake frosting, is an 'off-set' knife; the blade is stepped down from the handle, making it a breeze to smooth out frostings, batters, mashed potatoes topping your cassaroles, etc. Find one on Amazon. Keep on with the video's, please. You are a breath of fresh air!

I love your oven! My grandmother had one just like it but she had a hidden space for pancakes right where your mixer is sitting on top of. She also had a disc covers for all four of her heating disc. She even had holiday ones for Christmas and Easter and I remember a Christmas it was a poinsettia.

Laci, I love your videos. Your kitchen reminds me so much of my aunt's kitchen, who has been gone for quite a few years. Felt like I was visiting with her again. Merry Christmas!
