This a trash fish catch and cook I've been wanting to take on for a long time! The ladyfish is almost never taken home as table fare and generally used as bait. The reason is these fish have very soft mushy flesh and have tons of bones. Filleting them is near impossible, so the best way to process them is to scoop the meat off with a spoon and make it into fish paste, fish balls, fish fritters etc. I show you two delicious ways to eat this fish, the first is ladyfish fish fritters and the second is fish ball soup! Remember theres no such thing as trash fish, just trash cooks!

I can’t let my wife watch this channel. I only thought I could cook. Brook you and Vic are a awesome couple. Your parents did a wonderful job teaching you the ways of fishing but most importantly the ways to be great people to our country. Y’all are a success story for so many couples that want to create what y’all have. I pray God continues to bless both of your families. If we had lobster in South Texas I would definitely order her net. It only makes sense to it’s very transparent design. They can’t even see it is coming. Awesome idea. Hope you make millions Brook!

Aloha Viktor, I probably told you this in the past but here in Hawai'i we call Ladyfish 'Awa'awa (ah-vah-'ah-vah) and they are considered a delicacy by locals. The flesh is spooned off the skin, and made into fish cakes by adding water, eggs, corn starch, and various chopped vegetables like green onion or garlic chives as well as grated carrots, and chopped water chestnuts though Jerusalem artichokes works in it's place. We also use Bonefish, and Milkfish sometimes combining all 3 species to form the fish patty base. Great video as usual, keep up the great work. A hui hou.

My people love the ladyfish paste. We do the same you did. Use spool scrape all the meat out. Use the machine to mix the meat with onion, garlic, fish sauce, salt, oil. After mix just fire with oil. Man it comes out delicious. The ladyfish paste sell for $8 per pound.😀

You can also take fish paste with chopped veggies and Asian seasonings, stuff a bell pepper and roast and serve with hot black bean sauce. It's very tasty.

Vic, if you scrape the other way (towards the tail0, you can keep less bones out of the meat. In Hawaii we also squeeze the meat through cheese cloth to get out all the scales and left over bones.

Fish balls are my favorite! You can stuff them too, by spreading the mix on some plastic wrap, adding the filling, and then twisting the wrap into a ball. You can also deep fry them for soup or snacking.

We call that fish Awa aua in Hawaiian. We make it like that, too; however, try and make a fish stock with the skin and bones using ginger, tomtoes, etc. then strain it. It's very tasty and you're able to use more of the fish. Aloha!

I can't believe my mouth is watering watching you guys eat ladyfish😂 As a rule, ladyfish only stay on your line when you are targeting reds and trout with artificial and just want them to come off. When you actually want to land one for snook bait or cut bait they always manage to come off. And yes, I crunch up ramen and eat it raw when camping(with a little of the flavor pack sprinkled on). I recreated your poached fish recipe that used coconut milk, tomatoes, onions and lemongrass. It was phenomenal.

I just got back after doing a trip completely around Florida to see what the bite was like. Your channel inspired me to do so. I stopped at every east coast hot spot all the way down to key west and all the way back up. Panama City is worth the trip. Best fishing I’ve ever experienced and it was from a pier. A great way to use ladyfish. I prefer to turn them into redfish, but this is good too (in SW Fl, we STILL cannot keep redfish). 2 tips: 1. Ice them down overnight. It makes scraping much easier. Don't press too hard so you leave both the bones AND the dark meat on the skin. 2. Use an ice cream scoop to transfer the processed fish from bowl to pan.
