On my shortlist of favorite American Masters (even though he was Hungarian, originally). Love his work!

Sad that he died young. I think the landscape with the eucalyptus trees looking down to a pond in the distance is extraordinary and and many of the other landscapes are really excellent. It's delightful to see SoCal given an impressionist treatment. The portraits seem too serious by contrast. Maybe those were done for money more than love.
