England's Lake District is one of the prettiest parts of the United Kingdom as we'll show you in our driving tour that's going to be visiting most of the lakes of this wonderful area in the northwest of Great Britain, sharing with you some astonishingly pretty views.
We'll also visit some of the small towns that dot this landscape and we will take you on a boat ride from one end of Ullswater to the other, it's the second largest Lake in the Lake District, although it's only 9 miles long, so you'll find that the Lake District is relatively compact in size.
It's about 30 miles wide and about 40 miles from north to south, all included in the National Park that was created in 1951.
Windermere 2:53 Ambleside 4:00 Rydalwater 5:14 Grasmere 5:51 Thirlmere 9:51 Derwentwater 10:50 Buttermere 13:44 Crummockwater 14:17 Keswick 15:06 Castlerrig Stone Circle 15:33 Ullswater 17:36 Brotherswater 20:11 Troutbeck 21:08 Peter Rabbit 21:56
Especially when guided by a tour company like Mountain Goat with our excellent driver, Kevin, in their minibus that will take us to all of the main sights without any effort on your part. We’re going to show you a one-day trip summarized in this movie in which we see the major lakes.
While it's called the Lake District for a good reason - that's the main attraction - there are many other sites to see, like the old stone bridge, the beautiful countryside we’re driving past, the mountain streams and lakes of course.

The Lake District in the autumn/fall is an especially beautiful place as the greens turn to browns and deep reds as the leaves begin to change colour.

Excellent film, superb quality with your usual great commentary Dennis. A small point though: if this was a TEN lakes tour, did you miss out 1 (or even 2) in your coverage? Windermere, (1) Rydal Water, (2) Grasmere, (3) Thirlmere, (4) Derwentwater, (5) Bassenthwaite Lake, (6? though only seen from a distance at Surprise View, not on your route and not mentioned in the video;) Buttermere, (7) Crummock Water, (8? mentioned, but not shown in the video, nor does it appear to be on your route;) Ullswater, (9) Brotherswater (10)

Thank you so much for paying attention and counting, but your list of lakes in the videos is 10 lakes.
@DaveBartlett
@DaveBartlett 4 жыл бұрын
@@denniscallan Perhaps you should have read the list of lakes in my comment, more carefully. The point was that Bassenthwaite Lake and Crummock Water should not have been included in your professed 10 - you didn't actually travel within miles of them and didn't see them in any way more than a passing glimpse through the trees, so it would be unfair to call it a '10 lake tour', any more than it would be fair to call it an '11 lake tour' just because another lake is visible beyond Windermere, from your stop at the Kirkstone Pass Inn, (it's either Coniston Water or Esthwaite Water, I'm not sure - but what the hell - just cover them both by calling it a '12 lake tour'!

Kirkstone Pass runs between Ambleside/Windermere to Patterdale/Glenridding at Ullswater. If you used it to get to Keswick, it would only have formed a small part of your journey, and you'd have had a lot more journeying to do, whichever end of Kirkstone Pass you were starting from!

When people call Windermere lake Windermere they are factually wrong as in old English Mere means Lake so effectively what you are saying is lake Winderlake which is actually bad English

@DaveBartlett
@DaveBartlett Жыл бұрын
There's only one lake in The Lake District *THAT CONTAINS 'LAKE' IN ITS NAME* 'waters' and 'meres' are lakes that use the old name for lake (from Cumbric, Old Norse, Anglo--Norman or combinations of them) instead of the modern word 'lake' but they are STILL lakes - you shouldn't take pub-quiz trivia questions so seriously.

Am impressed guys. But please don't call "The Lakes" pretty....rugged, awesome in its original meaning.....finest scenery in the Lakes is Wastwater with Great Gable at the head.....Wastwater...deepest lake 500'.....highest mountain (Scafell Pike 3209') ......followed by Ennerdale with the majestic Pillar and again Great Gable at its head....not the tallest but probably the finest....scramble Westmorland Crags and Pillar Rock via Slab & Notch and you will truly see what the Lakes has to offer.

I worked in Grassmere and I can tell you only go in the spring or summer. The locals do not like outsider's out of tourism time. Sure the hotels are happy if they get Autumn n winter bookings. But if you work there during the darker months you get to see the true local mood. There is alot of paganism and spooky goings on dating back thousands of years.
@paulm2467

Allan Miller what a load of bollocks, the weather isn't great but Autumn and Winter can be stunning.paganism and spooky, My family live in various towns and villages all over the lakes and this superstitious nonsense doesn't exist any more than everywhere else, it's mainly in the minds of the gullible.
@TODMORLANCS

The stone circles and pre Christian magical aura of The Lake District is part of what makes it different and so uniquely beautiful. Paganism is the indigenous belief system of these isles. Everyone who visits the lakes, becomes a nature worshiping pagan for the duration of their visit.
