Lake O'Hara - Yoho National Park - Alpine Circuit Hike 4K #lakeohara
A hidden gem with breathtaking views, jewel-blue lakes, and rugged mountain peaks, Lake O'Hara is a sought after hiking destination for many hikers worldwide located in Yoho National Park in the Canadian Rockies.
This was a bucket list hike, 4 years in the making, as Parks Canada has limited access to this sensitive alpine area to provide high-quality and meaningful experiences for visitors and maintain Lake O’Hara’s unique alpine environment.
You will require a bus reservation to get to the Lake, and this is extremely difficult to obtain as seats sell out almost instantly. You can hike the 7 miles/11 km from the parking lot to Lake O'Hara though if you don't want to catch the bus. As such, you will often find yourself on the trails with hardly any interaction with other fellow hikers for miles.
In this film, we hiked 2/3 of the complete Alpine Circuit trail as the All Souls Prospect section was closed on that day by Parks Canada due to avalanche risks.

I hiked this circuit about 25 years ago in August and it still had some snow on the trail going over to All Souls prospect but that was all. Lake Oesa didn't have any ice in it and I lucked out it has beautiful blue sky. This is a one of my favorite hikes that I did.

Probably our favourite hike in the Canadian Rockies 😀. It was quite hard to obtain a shuttle ticket (that doesn't operate any longer 😕)to go to the lake area. It took us 4 years to get one as they would sell out instantly online for the whole season. It still can be done now but have to walk the fire service road 11km each way. So it can't be done as a day hike anymore which is a shame. Have a great weekend 😀

Wonderful hike in my neighboring province - so many beautiful vantage points! A number of sections looked scary. I'm not fit enough to do something like that, so great to watch it. Well done, my friends - big like 👍. Thanks for sharing and enjoy your weekend 😀.

Thanks, Jim. One of my bucket list hikes I had in my sights on for a few years🙏. I am blessed to have done it as it is very hard to get a bus day pass to get up there unless you want to walk an extra 11km to reach Lake O'Hara via the fire road or book a cabin there for $1000 a night😲. The mountain scenery and wilderness alone is just out of this world💕👌.

Thank you Serge! I am glad you liked it. It was quite a strenuous hike and there were lots of scree and small boulders, especially the 1st section to the Wiwaxy Gap but the views were just magnificent and the atmosphere surreal. Really happy to have done it and to share our experience. Have fun at the Christmas markets with Helene and take care my friends. Cheers. Laurie and Karen

Thanks, Martin! Switzerland has so many great places I would like to visit, I will need to take a full year off and still, I would not scratch the surface😁. I used to go there quite often as a kid (I was born in France) but haven't been there too many times since. Hopefully in the next couple of years🙏👍. Have a great week.

This is our FAVE OF THE DAY!! This hike, the views, seeing you Kids out there, enjoying the adventure of it all...WELL DONE!! Hitting the AWESOME button! That trail is not for the faint of heart! Did the elevation bother you? Incredible footage, Laurie...thnx for taking us along! The edit is perfect, that Marmot is adorable. The color of the lake is aqua wonderful! Stills are lovely, Karen. Those are some huge steps to follow. Im surprised you didn't need clamp ons! Best footage, really, Kids!

Thank you, Lisa and Rick, for your support. It really means a lot to us. This hike has been on our radar for a long time and we were blessed to actually get a ticket after trying for 4 years in a row. Not for the faint-hearted, that's for sure especially with the 4 seasons weather we had on the day!! The altitude didn't bother me but Karen had altitude sickness on the hike and didn't feel the best and actually broke a finger on the way to the Yukness ledges when she fell in the snow (hence why I kept telling her to be careful in the video). I am glad you liked the footage as it was very challenging in some areas to try to film and not fall in a ravine or scree slope. I can take photos but Karen is way better than me with stills. I stick to the videos :) Thank you once again for watching and all the best for the coming festive season. Cheers from Down Under. Laurie & Karen

Hi John. Thank you for your watching and commenting🙂. We did this hike on July 10th, 2019. I would say you should be pretty safe in August as most of the snow should be gone by then. Have fun, as it is a terrific hike and no video will do justice to the scenery and grandiose views there!

Hello, terrific video. The spot at 2:45 where she is standing on the rock overlooking the lake, is that Opabin Prospect? If not where is that? I’m hoping to go this summer. I’m just going to hike in on the fire road and spend about 8 hours there. Thank you
@EasyHikes4810
@EasyHikes4810 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Darryl. The rock/boulder where my wife is standing at 2:45 overlooking Lake O'Hara is just an overhang half-way up (near some narrow ledges) on the Wiwaxy Gap section of the hike. It is not Opabin Prospect which is a bit further down around the Opabin Plateau section at 18:43 approximately. I would recommend doing the trail in a clockwise direction (as we did) as the 1st section is the steepest and quite challenging due to its elevation gain, but after that, it is quite manageable besides some rough sections around the Yukness ledges especially when snow/ice is present. All I can say is that you will be in for a treat🙂. Enjoy and once again thank you for watching👍!
