Siam was never colonized by anyone. But the Khmers had been a colony of Siam for more than 400 years, and the rulers had to spread their government and culture to the colonies under Siam rule. Cambodians have come to learn how to dress in famous Thai dramas. Over the past five years, Khmers have come back to claim it as their own traditional costume. And from the results of genetic research, Khmers have different DNA from Thai/Laotian/Vietnamese/Burmese people. Khmers are also recorded as slave labor captured from the Indonesian island of Java.

It's a sad story about Khmer. They got a Bayon Apsara BUT nobody know exactly how it perform because Khmer Kingdom had fall 400 years ago and was colonized by a lot of countries. Now they don't know who they are. 😔

Cambodia was under Siam for about 400-700 years. King Rama 1 of Siam (Thailand) adopted young princes and princesses and raised them in Siam till the prince grew up and was crowned to be the Cambodian king and appointed to Cambodia. During King Rama IV, another Cambodian king was crowned in Siam and appointed to Cambodia again. During that time, Siam sent the art team to Cambodia to teach them Thai Traditional Dances, KHON, and many other things. King Rama IV had the Cambodian King's palace built with Thai architecture that looks similar to the Thai temple or palace. Basically, everything in Cambodia was influenced by Thai. The Cambodian young generations don't know the true history, so they have been trying to claim that they are the original.

Cambodia is "colonized" by Siam (Ayudthaya at that point), that's why Cambodia inherit some of their culture from Thailand since ancient times. And the Ankor Wat is also built by Indian King. So Cambodian doesn't have their own culture, and most of the native people are from ancient African and ancient Indonesian tribe, proven by the DNA investigation by scientist. However, Cambodia start stealing Thai culture in these recent 10-20 years to be their own.

Because Claimbodia used to be Thai or Siam colony for a long time (more than 400 years) before become French colony and just independent about 50 years ago and face of War inner country for long time. In the time be Thai colony, they recieve a lot of Thai culture. KHMEN claim Thai in the role of Admin will recieve KHMEN culture as colony. No country do like that).

Cambodia doesn't have any Khon poetry because it's probably difficult. Translating Thai poems into Cambodian. The story of Ramayana that Thailand composed and adapted from the Indian Ramayana. Cambodia also took it from Thailand to display. Cambodia claims to be the origin, but no evidence of its origin can be found.

Cambodian khon is played like a pantomime. Because it is very difficult for Cambodia to take a Thai poem from the Ramayana and rewrite it into a poem in the Khmer language. And Ramayana in the past was a show for King to watch. The ruling class in Cambodia could speak and listen to Thai. In ancient times, Thai poetry was probably sung to accompany the performance.

The Cambodian king had lived in Thailand for more than 30 years as a hostage and stepson of the Thai king. Later he was appointed king to rule Cambodia. About 100 years ago This Cambodian king can be considered almost Thai because he grew up in Thailand. After returning to rule Cambodia, he tried to develop Cambodia to be similar to Thailand because he was accustomed to Thai culture. Cambodian people were ordered to wear clothes and asked Thailand to send a Thai dance troupe to help teach Cambodian people.

The Cambodian king asked the Thai king for permission to build a palace similar to the Thai one. and trying to create its own culture After the French occupation for several decades, the cultural development was interrupted. After gaining independence, there was a war within the country. A genocide occurred in 1979, approximately 2 million people died in Cambodia. causing knowledgeable people to die and flee Cambodian people today have their own cultural problems. The Cambodian government encourages the imitation of similar Thai culture.

Thailand is a country that preserves all cultures. Thai people cherish Thai culture. But the Khmer people copied and imitated everything in Thailand to make it their own. It may cause other countries to misunderstand and I would like other countries to help make this clip that it is from Thailand. Some history analyst has an assumption as following message. " Khon performance has originated in Siam. Just only the story was received from Ramayana epics of Indian. The Khon dance posture was mainly developed from 2 plays ; " Kula Tee Mai " ( means Kula beating the rhythm ) and " Mongkhrùm " in Ayuddhaya period. Lakhon Khol which Cambodia claim that its' originated from Khmer period and Siam adapted to Thai Khom ; referring to the stone wall carving of Stone Castle, is not reasonable. The fact is that it is just a carving wihtout any movement or any musics at all. How come it be a performance !.. Moreover , Khmer become Siams' colony for more than 400 years. Colonial Rulers never accept their colonys culture at all. On the other hand, colonys are always influenced by their Rulers " นักวิเคราะห์ประวัติศาสตร์ มีข้อสันนิษฐานว่า... ไม่น่าเอามาเทียบโขนพระราชทานนะ ดูห่างชั้นเยอะ ถ้าเทียบก็ต้องเทียบโขนเด็กนักเรียนตามโรงเรียน ประถม ถึงจะได้ แต่เด็กๆ น่าจะแสดงและรำสวยกว่าด้วยซ้ำ

ใช่ดูเผินๆ ของ กัมพูชาก็ไม่ได้แย่ แต่พอมาเปิดของไทย คงเห็นความแตกต่างแค่เรื่องอลังการเท่านั้น.....เป็นคนไทย จะเห็นข้อแตกต่าง มีเยอะมาก ดนตรี บทขับร้อง การแต่งกาย ท่ารำ การเดินเรื่อง ฉากฯลฯ
