The Suzuki Hayabusa was always renowned for its smooth high speed cruising abilities but for 2021 it has been updated. We borrowed two of Suzuki's finest for a couple of weeks & took them on a 400 mile jaunt to test if the latest version still has that continental crushing ability!

What kinda bike do you ride? I have dirt bikes but I’m looking for a good reliable bike for the road. The Busa seems like a logical place to start and kinda tall person friendly. I’m scared do some of those race bikes and the Busa seems a lot more tame and probably better for long rides but still can have some fun with some bike friends of all kinds. Just seems like a well rounded road bike.

@@Dara-ih6jq a Busa is definitely not a beginner bike. With that being said my first sport bike was a 1000cc albeit a v-twin but still damn fast. I’m actually looking to trade in my new Harley road glide for a new Busa early next year. By all means you can absolutely start on a Busa if you’re the kinda person that can respect it. Just ride safe and sensible and you’ll probably be okay, also wear full gear.

These new Busas are truly awesome, and such a mature, thoughtful update to an icon. For all generations, Helibars have been the biggest change that's turned it into a real do-it-all. So many here in California have those, soft bags, slightly bigger screens and drop pegs. Anywhere, anytime! The rest needs nothing. Great tour to be along for the ride on. Thanks guys!

@@nerradnevar- 3 things I did on my Gen 2 - so hopefully will apply to Gen 3 too. Fitted Helibars, fitted gel seat and fitted 40mm lower pegs. I’m 6’ 2” and these 3 mods really helped. Finally, I also fitted a zero gravity touring screen and that also helped re airflow

Not to flex, but at 47 I rode a KTM SM 690 from San Francisco, CA to Portland, OR in one go (minus fuel and food) and in good time, so one could absolutely comfortably tour on a Busa. Treat touring like a sport and physically train for it and you'll be able to do weeks of silly distance on any serviced bike with decent fuel range. Love the channel. Cheers.

However, my hips and knees were killing me after an hour, one of the reasons I decided to part company in 2019! On the plus side, great engine and the dash is👌🏽, but I won’t be parting company with my cash, I’ll be keeping my H2SXSE, in my opinion it’s a far better bike and more exciting to ride too…. Good to hear you both chatting about all the older stuff, much like Greg, I’ve had shed loads of bikes since 1981, including several of the ones you mentioned👍🏽

I fell in love with that analogue dash instrumentation very early on. The only thing that I would prefer is shaft drive. That’s the only major change I’d make to a superbly engineered bike. The Busa reminds me a lot of a Kawasaki Z1R - big black velvet muscle bike.

I loved the discussion about both your biking histories, it took me right back to my first bike (the RD200) right through all the Yamaha RDs air cooled and water cooled inluding the TZR, then onto bigger four stroke sports bikes but now as age is catching up rapidly a much more comfortable street triple R.

I don't think I've seen many references to the RD200. My first 'big' bike and it was awsome! I really wanted one of the new round tank RD250's but I think the parents were scared of how fast/radical it looked :) Did your electric start only work when it was hot too? I never liked the Busa and went down the Blackbird route when it came time to get a big sports tourer, but now my 3rd Bird is getting old I'm liking this new Suzuki more and more. Test ride coming up I think.

@@AlMcLuckie No my electric start worked fine but a friend had the starting problem and his bike was recalled for a new starter to be installed, though it was nice to also have a kick start.

The Hayabusa, the OG super nutter hyperbike, alas my knees couldn't do 400 miles in a day seeing as I'm old and knackered these days, great vid though Chops, a most enjoyable watch.👍👍👍🇬🇧

@ Baked Beanz on Toast I thought that too... (I'm 'old and knacked too) what you need is somewhere you really want to go or to see ....admittedly mine was only 320 something miles...or you could do 200 miles and stay the night :-) Which is pretty much what I do these days....

When you choose a bursa it’s all down to the colour you get, the new version needs to offer more options but I’m sure that’ll come.

So wish I could justify buying one - loved (and owned) previous two versions and this has grown on me so much. On my Gen 1, I was going down M4 and there was a huge section with a 50 limit so reset fuel computer and got 72 mpg. Probably cost more in tyre wear. Contemplating selling the car :D

Haha, that’s funny. I did a distance test run on my bike and stopped in exactly the same spot at CG. Naturally a flat battery when I tried to head off. The test ride was for a solo tour which had mileages of 280, 330, 92 and finally 359 to get home. Awesome stretches but a fair amount of discomfort on my 125. Roughly hourly stops and a little walk help, as does paracetamol, lol.

GS500 E slingshot, Cbr600 F3, GSXR-600, FZ 6, DL 650 V STROM, VFR 800(still have this one), GSXR-1000.......2006 Suzuki Hayabusa LE(RZ) There is no question, the Busa is the fastest, most comfortable and capable of traveling veeeeery long distances(in Southern California where everything is far away). Easily do 500mi a day and not a limp or even a slight ache after jumping off. Regularly do LA to PHX (380ish miles) get there, drop the gear and luggage, and get right back on and do another 200 that nite. Most comfy and supremely capable bike I ever and still do own. And we talking a Gen 1!!! Slab KING that will do 187mph all day. Between fill ups lol, that is, she is thirsty over 100. Cannot wait to throw one over a '22. BUSA is KING!! lol, seriously tho, as far as covering loooooong distances and having the most visceral fun doing it...accept no substitute, Suzuki Hayabusa.
