The Triumph Street Triple is a fantastic motorcycle and extremely good value. But how does it compare to the new kid on the block the all new Aprilia Tuono 660? The Tuono maybe a 100cc down in capacity but can it hold its own against the formidable Street Triple? Lets find out!!

Looking at buying a Triumph street R or Ra . I m 188cm that’s six one imperial,98 kg. I s it physically big enough for taller guys for dag long rides.Any comments appreciated,as my nearest dealer is inSollentuna Sweden, and it saves wasting time if it’s going to be cramped🏍🇸🇪👍

@@philipchard7596 You can check cycle-ergo.com to virtually test if you would fit, the Tuono 660 hasn’t been added yet but it can help you with other bikes. Edit: Just saw you are looking for the Triumph, good news, it’s on the website (older models though).

The Plods up here would have pulled you for clearly you were accelerating ...um...rapidly, and close to or even above the speed limit. Those Plods showed their hand by slowly accelerating beside you, giving you a chance to see them. Here they would have hung back, and nailed you once you were that 3% over the limit tolerance.

Great review Chopsy. Just came back to this again as looking at RS660, Tuono 660 or maybe going back to a Street Triple again. Looking at the Tuono vs Striple R’s that are a few months old, between the 100-1000 miles on them, the Tuono is now about £1000 less than Triple R. That’s now a big difference and more than covers the cost of a quick shifter, you could even add the IMU upgrade if you wanted and still save a chunk of money. As a mostly street rider, mostly B roads etc, Tuono seems like a good deal.

Thanks for posting. From my perspective and based on looks alone, before the testing started, the Aprilia has a clear starting advantage (granted a shallow and vain opinion, but I am what I am). Your comments during the testing, only re-enforced my preference for the Aprilia over the Triumph. Great job!

Great work. I can't afford either because every time I mention new bike we end up down the home improvements route. Great reaction when you saw the plod 'grab a big handful of front' doesn't give it away much when the light comes on, lol I do it all the time myself. Should probably look in them mirror things they attach to the bikes but there is always to much going on to bother with them things. Joking of course. Thanks for sharing. Another enjoyable watch

Another great video, Chops vs cops! You got lucky the cops must have been heading to the donut shop. Love Aprilias, have the 2020 Tuono Factory and for streets its the best bike I have ever had, my buddy is waiting for the little Tuono to come to California and now I am excited to try it!

Great video, thank you. As I know it, the Street Triple is built in Thailand, the Tuono in Italy. If you then look at the production costs, the Tuono is more expensive. I tried both and last week I bought the Tuono last week. It simply felt more premium. 😀

@@brok_izibrok8427 If you aren't an Aprilia fan, I must admit the Street Triple R is better value for money. However they are truly different, you should try them before deciding. One has the feeling to be faster on the Aprilia at the same speed. It is livelier, but slower. The difference is mainly the engine, that is by Aprilia smaller.

I’m worried about long term reliability issues. I’ve seen quite a few people that are on their second motor. The triumph would definitely be more reliable.

@@keltecdan I have a Tuono 660 and Aprilia sent the replacement engine in 1 week. I think this is more than acceptable and we are speaking of 1 year ago. In general, but this relates to all bikes, reliability is much related to how one drives.

I would have liked to see you compare the street triple 660s to the tuono 660 as they would be a much more similar bike in terms of price, engine capacity and the fact that can both be legal for an a2 rider. However that being said, love your videos so keep up the great work! :)

Aprilia all the way. I purchased a 2018 1100 Tuono Factory last Aug - I think if this 660 bike was avail then - I might have gone for it. Watching your Video it sounds like the V4 incredible. Good job on the review and excellent video.

Watched your vid a while ago, and came back to it for a good reason. First off, your presentation is quite spot on and impartial, deeply appreciated it! The thing i am here for though is the price. You re mentioning and i am sure you 've got it right, that Tuono goes for 9.700 pounds and Street Triple R for 9.100! Here in Greece, Tuono goes for 10.550€, while the "Triple R" starts from 11.590€! Its amazing if you think about it, and i am sure that UK leaving EU is partially the reason. I remember i noticed it again on a Triumph T100 vs a Moto Guzzi V7iii test, were the Guzzi is much more favorably priced here comparing to UK!

Nice one Mr Chops, really enjoyed that. As most folk will add the quick shifter and blipper to the Tuono I think the Street RS would have been the bike to compare it against. Was surprised the R was so cheap and with the fully adjustable suspension It could easily be dialled in to suit. Keep up the good work! Btw I’ve been waiting so long for the next hypermotard episode, I’ve grown a beard 🧔

Great vid, really enjoyed it & very appropriate comparison. My head says Triumph but my heart says Tuono. Heart wins pretty much every time for me when it comes to bikes though. However I agree that Aprilia have blundered on the spec & pricing. This bike should be £9500 tops or maybe £9800 if spec'd the same as the RS660. I'm confident Aprilia will add some bells & whistles to the Tuono for next year.

Love your reviews, Chopsy...as always. Any thoughts on whether it would be an upgrade to go from a '14 Street Triple R (675) to a newer Tuono 660? Too similar? I'm afraid the trade in value versus a new or newer Tuono here in the States could easily be $5-6K

I personally just bought a Street Triple R. It was quite a bit cheaper with more features than the Tuono (except for cruise control) and has that wonderful triple sound! Sadly I haven't gotten to ride it yet because of all the snow. Hopefully it'll just be a few more weeks.

@@fynn8252 Its going to be a street only bike for me. I already have a track bike. For the road the upgrades don't make any difference to me. I bought a 2020 that had been at the dealership for almost a year so there was $1000 off and still had a 2 year warranty. I got it out the door for $9500. The 2021 STR there was listed at 10,600. They didn't even have an RS in stock so i'm not sure the price difference exactly but still it wasn't worth it to me. That and I think it looks better in the matte gray than the gloss black. The money I saved has gone to crash protection just in case something happens.

Personally, I find the extra premium touches nice but if it's over $2k more then it may not be worth it. Although the RS is much more common and available where I live (used market too).

@@JuanRodriguez-ll8tx I think it would be perfect for that. If you are near 160lbs (72kg) the suspension should be just about right. I haven't ridden it yet but I have set the suspension for sag and it seems just about right for me.

I own a 16 street triple r and a tuono and I prefer the feeling of the triumph. However I believe the v4 in the Aprilias are the best sounding engines ever haha

I wonder, did you adjust the Triumph suspension? I test rode a Street last year and at first I wasn’t impressed because of the handling. I went back and we adjusted sag, compression and so on and it made a huge difference. The factory settings were not great.

I was comparing these two when I looking to purchase. Went with the Striple R! The Tuono was way too expensive(over $2000 more in my currency + quickshifter) for what it is plus the nearest Dealer is 200km away. Made my decision easy.

Hey mate, I'm a similar size to you and these bikes are both on my short list for second bike (currently have an SV650 I love but eventually I'll want to jump to a "nicer" bike). Any concerns with either in the saddle for the day? You mentioned you don't commute but any thoughts about either as a city commuter, maybe a bit of high way commuting?

Aprilia has always had the best chassis in business. I own a Streetfighter v4, a Street Triple and a Yamaha and I used to own a Tuono.

Really good review, thanks! The Tuono is the better looker in y view. How do these bikes compare with the MT 09 SP. Where I come from it's $500 cheaper than the R. Tuono pricing yet to be advised. Hold your breath it will be high. And the straight MT 09 is cheaper still...

Fantastic sight seeing the speed the Deer get to poor things.Someone sticks a sliver of tarmac through their natural habitat and its their fault for not looking left and right.I see huge herds of them when riding around the outskirts of Harewood House.Another good vid.

Hi! I love your reviews! I had a Street triple R 2014 and now I'm approaching to buy an Aprilia Tuono 660 FACTORY. I think this one is more comparable to the street triple than the Tuono 660 basic. It will be very interesting if you make a new comparison between Street R vs Tuono Factory, like old vs new school. Or also Tuono 660 vs Tuono 660 Factory, I'm from Italy, but I didn't find a video comparison on the road like that. Thank you!

I know it’s not the same but my Street RS handling was sorted with preload in the rear, moving weight forward, then it felt planted. The triumph base settings on my Daytona, street and speed were not great

Hi Chops I am commenting on the comment that Steve triple sent you about the Dave Moss vid. I was wondering why you didn’t really elaborate about that rear suspension shock and why you thought it was better than the street triple suspension, I’m just curious I’ve always enjoyed your vid’s but are you getting compensated by Aprilia in anyway?

I said Ken that the Street Triple suspension is a higher spec but not setup as nicely. Not to say with a full setup it's wouldn't feel as nice as the Tuono. Of course Aprilia are not paying me its how the bikes felt on the day

What for on the road honestly you use 180hp-200hp on British roads and you are 💯 % going to prison these are more than enough for most people unless you do the small willy waving down the pub with your mates 😂

The street is notoriously under sprung on the rear for a heavier rider, which is likely why the front feels light. It also results in a boat more load transfer to the front under heavy braking. Just having a bike with the right springing makes such a massive difference that it eclipses everything else. The rising rate link on the street allows for a lighter rider and gives novices and easier time, whilst allowing heavier riders a reasonable experience.

Agree about the spec. Aprillia messed up with that, they shouldn’t have screwed with a good formula. It’s almost insulting, like they’re saying “you won’t know any better if you aren’t buying the sport bike”
