I invited on 5 graduates from Lambda School, now known as Bloom Institute of Technology. They all graduated in 2021; went through many of the talked-about changes; and had different experiences (positive and negative). If you're deciding on whether or not to become a student, watch this first to see if it's the right fit for you.

Thanks for doing these interviews, they're great. Boot camps peddle a lot of marketing bs and people need some more objective voices to balance it. It sucks that the industry is kinda predatory.

Around 33 minutes, when they talk about wordpress, it totally makes sense to for lambda/bloom tech to use wordpress for hosting all of their content. Wordpress is a very common tool used for hosting sites, content, video, etc. The more experience you get as a developer the more you'll understand it doesn't make sense to rewrite all of that functionality from scratch.

Extremely excited for this since I am heavily considering their back end amazon co-created program.

Don't, especially if you're considering using their program to apply and work for Amazon. There's a reason new grad developers stay there for only one year and move on.

@@awesomechen truly appreciate your opinion. Are you saying because it is Lambda school (bad reputation) or that i'm better off doing full stack programs? I actually don't intend on amazon, open for anything. Thanks, again.

It would be awesome if you could do something like this but with bootcamps in South Africa like Hyperiondev and CodeSpace

Does anyone know if they removed the computer science section as well as all the other programs like iOS development and the Ruby on Rails in the student learning center?

Ppl get on here willing to discuss a “part” of their journey. After a few ‘select questions’, some are ready to take a hot 💩on their boot camp. And that isn’t anything negative towards Don or they Alumni, it’s just reflective of how an increasing amount of former students feel about their experience.

But....I think it is a blessing to students to remove java and focus on html/css/js. jS throws enough ppl for a loop by itself, so many need to focus on that to be proficient. Java is mainly for large backend systems and those jobs require more depth with algos and data structures than many can accumulate to be hirable. I would not spread the curriculum that thin.

It sounds like they had an awesome program until the pandemic. Possibly an increase in enrollment due to the unique opportunity that the lockdown provided. Either way its a shame because I’ve actually heard great things from alumni that graduated before 2019.

Yes, this was my impression as well. I attended until the program completely switched on us...sadly, after my cohort was locked in for financial responsibility. I would have never continued past the trial period had I realized the changes that were to take place. The experience I had read from prior alumni is what convinced me to sign up.

I am very scared about bootcamps . Oh my God nowadays the education is the place to scam people. In the past it was the place to enjoy life. I need supports from people already are in self taught process. How to master the tools as self taught learner? I am very lost when it comes to choose a Bootcamp. Anyone has some resources where to learn JS front and back end.

as far as choosing boot camps go. Just be sure to choose from the top boot camps. Ones that have been around for a while. Appacademy, Hack reactor, full-stack academy, etc

I agree with all the cons about lambda same thing happened to me. It's sad I still have to pay for the ISA. After lambda, I decided to get a bachelor's degree and it costs less than lambda. But at least after everything, I will earn a bachelor's degree which is better lambda doesn't give you a degree or a certificate lambda was a big mistake but it's okay.

@@geovani_marketing Well I don’t know anything about other boot camps only the one I went to but after my experience I would say to just get a degree If you can. A degree isn’t needed in tech but I just prefer to have a degree a boot camp doesn’t give you a degree at the end but just my own opinion.

I think of bootcamps as coding trade schools, being more agile and often making up for what a traditional CS program lacks. It’s crazy that a coding bootcamp would cost more than any Bachelors degree considering the drastic completion time difference. Lambda is a huge ripoff with these cons, didn’t even think it was possible for a coding bootcamp to outstrip a university degree in cost.

Don’t get me wrong I don’t like lambda much either… but why would they build their website with React/Node, etc? They would have to hire devs for that, which would cost way more money than to just teach someone to use Wordpress… 🤦
@I_Lemaire
@I_Lemaire 2 жыл бұрын
Mostly because they want to dog-food (based on their curriculum). I mean the White House uses WordPress--as do top agencies--so it's legit but sites must be built according to certain best practices in order to be performant and scale.
@DonTheDeveloper

I agree. Too many developers want to build custom solutions and often overcomplicate things. I'll be touching on the no-code/low code movement soon which will most likely touch on this a bit.

Lambda has turned out to be very predatory in my experience. The platform they enforce their ISA through is terrible. Their transparency and honestly was absolutely awful.

I know this is just a podcast, not necessarily journalism, but it's clear that predetermined narrative that the panel was selected to support with their anecdotes. Interesting information, nonetheless, but cannot say there isn't a huge amount of bias here.

@erickgeneric
@erickgeneric Жыл бұрын
@@miscellaneouscell True, but you have to admit that the bias of the host who curates the guest has a huge effect on public opinion. You have to ask yourself; would the host entertain inviting a guests who enjoyed their experiences? It's clear that the guests were not chosen at random.
@TheSoulCrisis

@@erickgenericDon has a much harder time bringing people on that had bad experiences actually, he said it before in most of his episodes are people who are success stories in some way. He needs to balance things by talking to more honest people who also had negative experiences, because all programs need improvement. The head guy for this school who is a shady individual makes this school look so bad………that doesn’t even have anything to do with bias, the things mentioned here are just flat out screwed up. Just because someone did well in an environment and likes their school doesn’t mean all the dark and unflattering aspects should be swept under the rug.
