Once a DB, always a DB! It's not really about the PED, it's the fact that he looked people in the face and flat out lied to them. He has NO integrity. He even called them names and participated in lawsuits. He knows he got caught and isn't man enough to accept full responsibility for his choices. A classic DB, to the end:(
@Lionforaday

Um, he got caught "in the end." The guy's a sociopath - once caught, it was in his best interest to appear remorseful and apologetic. You study normal people, and you see that's what they do. Then, you do what you have to. The game's changed, but to Lance, it's still a game, and one he hopes he'll somehow win.

If you ever have to check into an emergency room and answer a medical questionaire....make sure this chick isn't with you. If I had armstrong's financial resources at the time I'm pretty sure I would have done a lot morre than verbally attack her.

Lol.. with your 'psychology' though, it says that if you do ANYTHING wrong (can even be 1 mistake), there is absolutely no way to redeem yourself. I don't know the guy, personally, no; but I don't care - what matters to me is if he changes for the better or the worse. I've just finished reading Tyler Hamilton's book and in it he describes how angry Betsy was when she found out her husband (Frankie) was doping. She made him swear he'd stop doing it and he hid it from her and went to a lot of trouble to keep her from finding out that he continued to dope. E.g. he never kept the EPO in his refrigerator like most cyclists did. She was against it from the beginning.

where as many other athletes came out and confessed. In that sense Betsy im sure also feels for him now, that he has a serious mental problem. The pressure of living up to those impossible standards he had set himself was a big serious issue in his life. People who understand the situation will feel for him. But at the time you cant expect her to feel for him. It was her word against his. If everyone thinks she is a liar - her life and family lose. And same goes for him.

also, just to mention, that I think the stats show that of the tours that he won, the MAJORITY of them had other users of drugs, which is not a way of 'defending' Lance, because wrong is wrong, but just goes to show you how prevalent it was then, and also how even if they tried to give the medals to the 'true' winners, these cyclyists would have been in 20th-30th place... (b/c all of the cyclists prior were also convicted of using drugs)

Yes, we all make mistakes. But a mistake is a "thing." Lance didn't make a "mistake" - the man devised and carried-out a campaign of deceit on a massive scale. He accepted titles and millions of dollars under false pretences. He slandered - at times, destroyed - the reputations of people whose only crime was to challenge his lies. Those aren't "mistakes." Those are the calculated actions of a sociopath, as are his studied attempts here to portray remorse and regret. I don't buy it.

Anyone who defends Lance is just as deluded as Lance himself. I love when people say "Yes but they were all taking stuff", firstly, not every single rider was and secondly, he had the funding to support such a large and complicated campaign, so it turns from a sport into a sponsored drug run, i.e. whoever had the most funds could hide the best/afford the best doctors... And after all of this he ruined peoples lives, people who dropped out of the sport because of the drug nature etc...

Fair comment. I am not defending LA or any one else. I am merely saying that she is calling the kettle black. Her husband and LA were both guilty of the same crimes. LA's crime is denying it and threatening her when he knew she spoke the truth. But I would not go over the top trying to get a confession out of someone who was in the same position as my partner just because he admitted using. There is a lot of dirty laundry that should have remained personal between both parties.
@2bsure
@2bsure 11 жыл бұрын
I am not defending drugs use in sports or LA actions, but I think this is another form of taxation. Mike Tyson was the same he committed a different crime but the plan was to get his money. The arrogant people that Tyson and Armstrong are make it easier for them to fall from grace, most people will only be happy when LA is suffering in poverty then they will be satisfied and feel compensated for time spent believing in him.

Do the math. He said once sponsors pulled out it was a $75 million day. I can only guess what that means but what is obvious is that he was earning a large majority of that per year. Betsy the hard done by has admitted lance settled with them out of court. So he has to pay back $12 mill. Trust he has a plan and will continue to make money. They have already said the federal had droped any case against. And he quoted that would be very hard to influence. Betsy and many are making mon. Good on him

In the words of Nicole Cooke, one of the best women cyclists: "This is stealing somebody else’s livelihood. It is theft just as much as putting your hand in a purse or wallet and taking money is theft. Theft has gone on since the dawn of time but because somebody, somewhere else, does it, does not mean it is right for you to do it. There can be no excuse". No, not "a few" of the other cyclists were "probably doing the same thing." They all were. And you know what? It's still wrong. Your reasoning is poor - just because a few, or even lots, of people do something - cheat, steal, lie - doesn't make it OK. It makes it not-surprising, I'll grant you that, but it doesn't mean the person should "get a break."

And the broader issue here is, what was he "working for".He was working towards this impossible image. Its impossible to win 7 tours de frances without doping -in armstrongs OWN admission in this interview. He ws working towards increasing/ sustaining an exaggerrated unrealistic Ego Image. If nething, Betsy was helping him destroy it (even if this was nowhere near her intention). His work was false. It shouldnt be glorified. Give Lance credit on this point... he basically gave this lady the point on the hospital conversation, as much as he could without technically opening himself up to a legal issue. She already got an out of court settlement, and now she's in tears last night over the technically wording of his interview- I think she's hoping he opens himself up to a case where she can go back and get more of a settlement. It's clear she's a b*chy lady to begin with. Not a total victim like a lot of others.

Almost everyone did it. Frank Slick pulled out last year because he failed a drugs test. Whole teams have pulled out because of failing test or scheduling is more accurate. He never cheated me. He only came out because he had felt cycling had abandon him. Hence went after the biggest name in the sport.

Lance Armstrong has proven that some drugs do have a place in sports and that they do give a proven un-natural advantage without always resulting in death/injury. If someone wants to use drugs to defeat their competition and risk injury/death for it then it should be a personal choice. Life isn't about fair competition, ethics, community, respect for rules/status quo and always being honest. Life is about survival of the most fit and those who can gain the advantage.

Let's say that he feels remorseful for the actions that he has committed over the past years, he has to be able to somehow better himself, and if people continue to dismiss him, he won't ever be able to turn around. Look at Mickey Rourke, Robert Downey Jr, Robin Williams... these people all redeemed themselves, in my view, but none were 'perfect' souls- for me, Lance is the same.

Let us not forget that this women's husband, Lance's friend also admitted to using EPO. She withheld information on LA for 10 years. She listened in on a patient-doctor conversation in 1996 whilst her husband was also doping, she waited till he stopped riding then spilled the beans on LA probably because she needed money from selling the story. She figured why should his earning potential go up and she not gain.
