That will be the straight through exhaust! Otherwise, as a 4cyl turbo car it never did have the sound, stock, to match its looks, heritage and speed.

@@dannymurphy4634 Umm, well, in principle I would love to but it is such a precious car. I am sure it could handle it but I just can't do it. Like the Ferrari, it is more about a short blast to put a smile on your face! Ade

My favorite car ever. I quite like the white one with the Martini stripes though like the bit of striping you placed on the rear spoiler.

Ah yeah, the Martini 5 and Martini 6 versions are super cool and very rare. I also quite the like the white cars covered in the full Martini livery as per the famous rally livery. Ade

I had an impreza back in the day. Loved it. Felt good when i saw a Lancer Evolution even but I;d shrivel up in a ball when I saw the integrale. Back then they were fairly accessible and a bit cheaper than a new preza/lancer. Mad.

Yeah, the gap was not so much. Still, special Suburus and Lancers do get similar money.

It would have to be an older Ferrari to get near the experience of that integrale. So cool.

Yes, exactly right. It has to be manual and have a similar level of engagement, as in , you drive the car, not being driven by it.

We have one 16v in black and i drive with my 15 year old son to school with it. We have great fun and sometimes get smiles and thumbs up from young and old. Its a car that somehow makes the driver and other people laugh and feel good, even with its imperfections.

Well, I agree. I;d love a NEW Ferrari as well but I would always prefer an older Ferrari. Manual for me. Anything else is selling your soul to the devil. Ade

I can see your points. At first I was skeptical but you began to make sense. Just hard not to imagine a Porsche being the best car but the better ones are silly prices.😵

Yeah/ The GT porsches, especially the older ones or the newer manuals are contenders for the best car ever. BUT they do not have the specific legacy of the integrale, nor are they 'family cars'.

Perhaps an M3 Evo, the older one, comes close. 997 GT3? Not too hard to think of epic cars but the practicality bit scuppers most rivals.

Yeah. All very worthy amazing cars. There are many cars which are epic. This is about a package whilst also having some special magic.

I had a 16v and loved that. Was too much to keep running for me at the time and, sorry hehe, I gave into the family and bought a bloody Golf. 😫😩🥺😢

I was thinking the FF at the start which you can just get for below 100,000 uk stg but it has not specific heritage other than being a ferrari and is not as nice looking. Maybe more to run too.

Yeah, will be higher running costs - on average - though a bad Grale will cost a fortune to rectify.

Struggling to think of a better car below 100k that covers off everything. I think of the 355, 350, 430, gallardo, r8 but they are not as overarchingly capable as that lancia.

Had one loved it but it broke my heart with electrical problems and brake calipers locking up and then the rust it was a fabulous car to drive when it worked but just to unreliable I had to sell it

Ah, sounds grim. The two I have owned were particularly nice and well looked after. So far so good. Ah, apart from the bottom end blowing up on my first one but that was partly my fault. They are many dodgy unloved ones out there though. I know I have been somewhat lucky. After all, this is an Italian car!

How much has the car cost you so far in your ownership out of interest?

Nothing at all in the last 7 months in terms of oil, servicing or maintenance. Car tax was about £180 and insurance about £500. All in all - so far so good.

Ha. Great point! I have considered buying one of those twice in the past. One had VERY high mileage but was a bargain. Also, really depends on colour for me. A better car than the newer ones. I agree.

Not a bad shout. If only it wasn't a Ford. I remember when they came out the insurance was mad. They still look damn good and an unmodified car would be awesome. Rarer than an integrale actually. I will see if I can get hold of one. I doubt it has the feel or handling or the integrale but love to fund out.

@@rhodriedwardwilliams The A45? Nah, it is rear wheel driven, turbocharged and DCT gearbox. Only thing in common is a 4 door hatchback. Might win in a straight line but won't keep up with the Lancia in the bends. In the wet it is, of course, all over. Perhaps, the Yaris GR is the better modern version.
