Hey mate - I think we agree wholeheartedly on some significant percentage of this, and I take your critical points on advisement. (You are, of course, more of a diplomat than me.) I am somewhat more critical of Toyota's performance with DPF implementations, and 'dusting', etc., but I agree with you that as a tow platform and a reliable off-roader, it is overall very hard to beat, and I doubt the 300 will be substantially worse than the 200 for the average grey nomad towing his van to Dingo Piss Ck. I enjoyed your report, BTW. Well done. I would add with respect that my comments about Toyota being the "king of mediocrity" do not pertain to the Landcruiser exclusively, but to Toyota as a brand more broadly. We are in furious agreement that in general, Toyota has decompiled the secret sauce of reliability - I've never had a shot at them for that. Love your work, dude - I mean that most sincerely. Well done. We'll both watch the 'hot vee' experiment with some interest. Great video mate. I find it hard to disagree with you on the vast majority of it. There's always a disconnect between the suburban LC owner and the actual adventurer to consider, also.

I drove a 100 series for 300k miles and then opted for a GX460, (LC150) as I really didn't want a larger vehicle, but the lack of the split tailgate was a huge compromise... I love that Andrew went on a rant for that specific feature... It is key to have a place to sit or do work while under cover without having to set up any further shade etc. I had to get an awning specifically to replace the lack of a split tailgate! I do love my GX, though :)

I think that all big car-manufacturers who have build real off road vehicles are going more and more soft because there's more money to grab in the SUV-world. I think that, in the future, we are gonna have to rely on smaller car manufacturers who are specialised in other niche markets (mine build, military, agricultural,... ) to have what we want, a real offroad vehicle who can take the punishment of the unbeaten paths. I think emission limits are also an issue. A serious 4x4 produces like 250-400 g of CO2/km. The EU limit is 95 g of CO2/km. So for example MB has to sell 2-3 EVs to sell one G-Wagen…

I own a 60 series myself, but the 80 series is definitely the best Landcruiser model there is. Analog enough to be repairable in most places/situations, brutally reliable end modern enough to be a comfortable drive and have the enjoyment of some basic luxuries. Parts are widely available at affordable prices and most garages can work on them. Not the case with this 300, if it breaks down in the bush there's 1 solution and that's third party recovery.

Hello! Dear Andreu, a Venezuelan residing in Chile writes you, I have been following you for a couple of years, regarding your comments about the new Land Cruiser L300, I totally agree with you. I know it is not the topic of your channel but maybe Toyota adapted all the modifications based on the changes that current society presents, both contemporary men and women are not so tough, and for that reason, Toyota has softened their line of 4x4 vehicles. Probably, you and the followers of your channel are romantics of adventure and we always seek to do things on our own without so much electronic assistance, that is why we resist changes. Take care and stay healthy!

The customer base simply shifted and therefore the car is being built different. You can see that with the g waggon. The landcruiser is no different just a light version of the g waggons case. Ppl who them new rarely even go offroad. Do you see lots of new land cruisers on offroad channels ? No… Nobody takes them their. Same with the gs. Same with all the land rovers. Doesnt really have to do with the ppl becoming softer. That ppl became more used to luxury and comfort generally is also true though. Thats beside the point

My 200 Sahara is now 11 years old , I bought it new, has done a LOT of outback and remote touring. It is so heavily modified it is irreplaceable. Infact for the past 4 years it is kept at home and only gets used for touring / camping so we can extend it's life. Once I physically see a 300 I will order one if it looks like it will do the same. Otherwise , I'll put more money into the 200 and keep it going. Anywhere you go in the outback, you hear the idle of the V8 Landcruiser Diesel. You can count Patrols on 1 hand each day.

The Grenadier is an extremely exciting release and with these prices… The 70 series starts with 30k more? The new defender isnt comparable and pricier. The old one is uncomfortable, probably more failures and faults and the grenadier should be better… And its new. Fresh from the factory. And they did it all right with the grenadier i think… Established engine. Established factory. Established transmission. Lots of testing now. Plus it's a handy step when loading the roof rack. It's disappointing Toyota removed this feature. It's like Nissan deleting a diesel option for the Patrol, or Land Rover adding electronics & digital technology to the Defender. Oh wait..., both manufacturers did. I guess this what happens when they sell more to people using them in urban settings than for off-road. I just hope the LC300 isn't the beginning of the end for the Land Cruiser.

There was a good V6 at low RPM, the 4.0L in the FJ cruiser. But look at the conditions, it had electronic assistance with the crawl control, mechanical assistance with the rear e-locker, it also weighs literally a ton less than the new Landcruiser. It’s a case of matching up the power plant, mass and projected performance nicely. But the big 300? No, I sucked it up and bought a 200 last year instead.
