In this video we’re going to review replacement tips for the air suspension compressor and the programming procedure for the ride level module (RLM) module (if required) on Land Rover LR4 vehicles. The compressors are a common issue on these models, with symptoms ranging from improper filling, running all the time and complete compressor failure.
RLM programming may be necessary if the replacement air suspension compressor is a different brand from what was originally fitted to the vehicle. Even though you are not replacing the RLM module, the module software must match the compressor brand. For example, if you are replacing a Hitachi compressor with an AMK compressor, or vice versa, RLM software must be programmed. Please note, this is not module replacement programming, you would be updating existing RLM software. If the software does not match, the suspension will not rise.
When replacing the compressor, you may have to modify the plumbing to the pump, depending on the current production date of the compressor the vehicle has.
There are two pump manufacturers used on these models, Hitachi and AMK. Old design AMK compressors will require the plumbing modification, where Hitachi and later AMK compressors will not.
When replacing the compressor, it is mandatory to replace the relay and air filter.
