The primary difference between the original Terrain Response system and Terrain Response 2 lies in how they select the appropriate vehicle settings.
Both systems are designed to optimize a Land Rover vehicle's performance across various terrains, effectively handling surfaces like snow, sand, mud, wet grass, gravel, and rocks. They achieve this by adjusting elements such as throttle response, transmission, differentials, and brake systems to enhance control and traction on challenging terrain.
The original Terrain Response system requires the driver to manually select the appropriate mode for the current driving conditions using a rotary dial.
Typical mode options include:
* General Driving
* Grass/Gravel/Snow
* Mud & Ruts
* Sand
* Rock Crawl
Terrain Response 2 introduces an **Auto mode**, which leverages vehicle sensors to detect wheel slip and automatically select the optimal settings for the detected surface. This automatic adaptation eliminates the need for driver input, making it more convenient and efficient. The automated nature of Terrain Response 2 allows the driver to focus on driving rather than manually switching between modes, particularly beneficial in constantly changing off-road environments.
