Hi Jamie, i have been waiting for this video from you and its now my next diy project. Your videos are always clear and precise and are a big help in my own maintenance schedule. Thanks to Project 200 my only visit to the dealer is to buy genuine parts the labor is done by me thanks to your videos and a workshop manual. Together. This has saved me thousands. cheers Eric.

Just had my cruiser serviced and Toyota quoted $660 to machine front discs and install new pads on each corner. I bought DBA T2 slotted discs ( front only) and Bendix HD pads all round. Delivered $510. Installed them this afternoon using this video as a guide. It was so easy and although I haven’t driven further than a few km to bed them in, they already feel so much better. The proof will be towing my 24 foot boat. Thanks for the very helpful video 🍺🍺

Thanks for another excellent video Jamie! Clear, concise and thorough, again! Interestingly, on my 2012 Cruiser, two of the front pads had metal tags on them, which DBA told me were mechanical wear indicators, to be fitted on the inside. These videos have saved me a small fortune, and I know that the job has been done properly. Thanks again!

Great video, saved me a bit of time nutting it out myself. I had those DBA Rotors and pads on my shelf waiting after the dealer told me my brakes had 5 000Kms left 2 years ago, changed them out yesterday with about 10 000k left on them. I did it without the glasses, just done the safety squint.

Hi MrBellda. Can you please share experience. Do the slotted rotors cause any noise/ vibration when braking? Do you feel like they overstress the suspension due to the better bite?

Excellent video. Are you going to do one on your new tyres and wheels? I had MT ATZ P3s, but recently changed over to Nitto Trail Grappers MTs and I think they're much better. I have a '17 Hilux 4x4, so don't have full-time 4WD and the ATZ P3s were very sketchy in the wet, expecially after 45k kms. I know other people with Coopers ATs who complained of the same issue. I suspect the compound is hard for longevity. The Trail Grapplers by comparison are a much better on wet roads, however are wearing quicker. I plan to get Ridge Grapplers next, which I'm hoping will be a good compromise, so am keen to hear your review.
@austimages
@austimages 5 жыл бұрын
I probably won't do a video, but will do a bit of a comparison page between the two tyres. I have a Cape trip coming up, so will probably wait until after that so I can see how they perform in a variety of conditions. So far, they seem at least as good as the P3s everywhere, but are much quieter on the road. I never had a grip issue with the P3s in the wet, but that could have something to do with the weight of the vehicle. I've used tyres before that were totally different on a heavy Vs lighter vehicle. Might be the same for the P3s.

Greatly appreciate your informative and helpful videos. I'm wondering if pushing the pistons without releasing the bleed valve would cause a damage? if yes, is it reversible?
@austimages
@austimages 4 жыл бұрын
It shouldn't cause any damage. But it will push fluid back up the lines into the reservoir. This is bad for two reasons. First, the fluid in the caliper has been subject to a lot of heat cycles, and is more likely to be contaminated. Second, if the reservoir has been refilled it could overflow with all the extra fluid being pushed back up. Any problems can be solved by flushing all the fluid back out.

Hi Jamie, Great Informative videos, just had a couple of questions, With the DBA Brake Upgrade do they fit well fine under the 17” Wheels? Also when you went to 18” Wheels why did you change from 17”? Was it more because of the Nitto tyre sizes or looks just curious, in the process of looking at a 200 Landcruiser and can’t decide which way to go.

Hi Jamie, nice video as per usual. Are the new brake pads causing more brake dust than the originals? I would suspect so and also guess that they do not last as long as the originals??
@austimages
@austimages 2 жыл бұрын
They may be slightly dustier than the factory pads, but not by much. They've been on for 2 years now, and still have about 30-40% remaining on the fronts, and 60%+ on the rears.

How have they been? Have you replaced the pads? Did the rotors machine well? Been told they warp and machining is more expensive with them and are not so good after. Eg new pads new rotors
@austimages
@austimages 2 жыл бұрын
Hi mate, Very happy with both the pads and the rotors. They are a little dusty, but that's a minor complaint. Have not had to change the pads yet, although the fronts won't be far off. I haven't had any issues with warping, and have not had to machine them so can't comment on that aspect.

No, I haven't got any plans to do any paint protection. I'm not convinced it's worth it long-term. If I were to do anything, I'd be more likely to do a wrap or something temporary like Rhino Hide.

How is the brake dust with those pads Jamie? Is it ok?
@austimages
@austimages 5 жыл бұрын
They seem to be about the same as the previous pads (factory on rear, Bendix on front). Although I changed wheels at around the same time, so that makes it a bit hard to pick a difference in dust levels.

There is sometimes a very minor difference, but there shouldn't;t be much. It could be that some of the pistons in the caliper have seized.

shouldn't be getting any grease on the side of the pads either. hope you cleaned it off but buy the looks of it you didn't, small things like that is why you should pay a mechanic to do it. payed all that money and time to be putting grease on you discs as they wear down not good.

It's not a race car! The standard size rotors with 4-piston calipers are excellent for typical driving (and more). But yes, Brembo do make a 405mm/6-piston upgrade kit if you want to spend A$10,000 on them!

@@austimages 1. not 10 thousand dollars and only 2 thousand dollars 2. yes, not a racing car, but you still need to slow down, and at night on a bad road it is always emergency braking, on a mountain serpentine, in a city traffic jam, too, the regular brakes overheat and become wadded - there are not many brakes! And your solution with dba is a dead poultice!
