What does configure the set in access point mode mean?

It means the routing (as the Address Translation and DHCP) is managed by your ISP’s modem/router and not by the Wifi Mesh set. In this configuration you can easely connect the satellites and the « router » nodes to your ISP’s modem/router (even through a network switch if you want) The downside is you cannot use the parental control of the wifi set.

I actually ended up buying this and didn't pay attention to it only have one 2.5 port. So basically without a switch there's no way to take advantage of the 2.5 port hard wired into a device? Since from your modem to router takes up one port, then from one router to the other would plug into the other 2.5 port so there's no where to put a line directly from the decive to the 2.5 port?

@@DomFranco I suppose. Though I have it going into the 2.5gbs port, and then the wifi itself is very fast. 30 feet away upstairs im getting 1400 download speed from my mesh access point.

Since he made this video, there has been an update. You can use the 6 GHz channel as either a backhaul or both you can connect device devices to it but in the settings you have to give it a separate name, and password to connect only to the six gig channel.

I was confused and had to rewind, then come and check the comment section lol. Glad I found this, I can confirm that you can create a 6ghz network with its own password. I am awaiting a new phone and look forward to testing it out!

In your video's I would love to hear about which WiFi routers do and don't offer it. Another item that would be helpful in your videos is the power supply amp rating. You usually state the voltage (110/220v) which in important but understanding the current draw or the wattage would be helpful too. Again thank you for your videos they are very helpful!

Yes you can do that and get faster lan speeds. I've tested that, I mention this in some videos but in most cases most people will opt to use the faster port for internet regardless of the ISP speeds

You can mix and match and deco, so yes the pro and non pro will work with each other

Thanks! I don't believe so, from all my local area testing, I have never seen a mesh wifi go over gigabit speeds, some of them were shy of gigabit speeds but none were over. Maybe WiFi7 will make that possible?

Thanks! I'm not 100% sure but generally speaking if you have a modem with an ethernet cable, these should work just fine.

That's pretty much the only difference from what I remember, I think in my testing the Pro got slightly better range but it was almost negligible.

No problem! I think the extenders can extend (haven't tried it) but it's not recommended since that would go through another means. Simply put, it needs to be from the Deco family for it to be properly extended within the same network and for things to properly hand off wifi devices from one Node to another. Also, you will see all the nodes in the Deco app if they are all from the Deco family.

Thanks! I don’t see an internet speed test in the deco app. No additional protection by default, check out Homeshield Pro for that (requires subscription). There is a network optimizer which is included.

Thanks for letting me know. It looks like TP Link has moved some features I have with the M9 Plus mesh system into a paid tier which is not ok. I use the Test WiFi Speed option in my Deco app all the time to check my internet speed at the router and any router app without that option is a router I will never purchase. The search for a good WiFi 6 or 6E router continues.

@SassySam we have 2 units in a 3,000 sq. ft. home and the system works really well. We have used this mesh system for almost 3 years and it has been very reliable. No drops. Any issues we have had have always been with our ISP. The app is straightforward and easy to use. I highly recommend the system. Please note however - this is a WiFi 5 system so it is a little dated. You will be capped at 867 mbps on the 5 ghz band. If you plan on getting gigabit internet in the near future, you will have to upgrade your system.

I'm not sure why it's mandatory, some of them require an account, this being one of them.

I used to use the Arris SB8200 with Spectrum for Cable. Now I use an ONT provided by ISP since I moved and switched to Fiber Internet. It's best to call your ISP and see what's compatible with their system.

Only if you plan on getting internet speeds faster than gigabit and up to 2.5Gbps, other than that there’s really no difference in your current situation.

Probably not since the 752 is already pretty good from what I remember. The real advantage would be that it's a 3 pack instead of a 2 pack but you could also just get another satellite for your Orbi system. The Deco is better but not by much compared to the Orbi 752. Just an FYI, I really like Orbi's numbering system since it tells me how many units are in the pack: The RBK752 (the number at the end says how many units, so in this case it would be 2 which means one router and one satellite). The Orbi RBKE963 (has 3 units, 1 router and 2 satellites).

You can use the Ethernet ports on these even if they’re wirelessly connected to the main router. However the speeds will tend to be slower because it’s still considered wireless backhaul

Thanks for subscribing! The short answer is that it’s an option, you can either use it as a dedicated wireless backhaul in which WiFi 6E devices will not see it. This will typically speed up your wireless backhaul. Or you can use it as both a wireless backhaul and have WiFi 6E devices connect to it, however in this option the wireless backhaul will not be as fast. You can find this option in the WiFi said configuration page where you setup your WiFi name.

Yes, this Deco will work fine with that. Arris makes good modems, should be fine assuming it's compatible with your ISP.

I have an ONT through Frontier with similar speeds. I connected it via a Cat7 cable and got the speeds no problems. Try a factory reset, I don't know why it would do that. Just in case, try updating the firmware on the Deco. Also try to connect an ethernet device like a PC or something and try the speed test on that to see what's happening. I'm wondering if your devices are connecting directly to the 2.4GHz band. Verify the 5GHz band is enabled as well.

Very possibly a defective unit, although, I'm wondering if it had anything to do with DHCP not refreshing after swapping out the routers. How long do you leave your ONT unplugged when you swap out routers for testing? I did mine for 5 minutes.

I think last time I checked the speed rating should be the same since the individual bands have the same speeds. The speed rating comes from the summation of the maximum speeds of each band. Each band has a theoretical maximum for throughput granted in the real world those numbers are never reached. For example: if your WiFi device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc) is connected on the 5GHz band. The theoretical maximum on the 5GHz band for these two Deco systems are the same at 2402Mbps. In a theoretical world, your wifi device can get to this speed but your wifi device has a max, your Ethernet cable has a max, your switch has a max, your modem has a max, the site or link you are trying to reach has limitations and wifi speeds are shared with other wifi devices. So by the time it gets from the WiFi device to destination, you are nowhere near the max speeds. This is how the speed rating is determined, the 5400 is an estimate AXE5400 = (AXE = WiFi6E) & (~5400 = 2402 Mbps from 6GHz + 2402 Mbps from 5GHz + 574 Mbps from 2.4GHz)

Yes it supports static IP addresses (www.tp-link.com/us/support/faq/1795/) and port forwarding.

If you can disable that router portion of it, you can get this and use it. You can also use this in access point mode if you can’t disable the built in ONT router. My ONT is just an ONT, no router built in.

Maybe I can do a video on it in the future. Most people don't need IPTV or VLAN. IPv6 depends on your ISP, so in Japan, I believe they are using IPv6, in America we typically use IPv4, so enabling that is useless. IPv4 is basically 4 octet IP addresses where IPv6 is six octet IP addresses. VLANs are Virtual Local Are Networks, so if you want to create separate networks within one network, that's what a VLAN is for which most people don't want. IPTV is for set top boxes which most people don't need which just so happens to reserve a port for that.

Deco 6E

You don't have a modem/router combo do you? If so, make sure you disable the router portion of it by putting it in bridge mode. If your modem/router combo is also emitting a wifi signal, these two will not play nicely together. Also make sure, your Deco isn't hidden somewhere, it's best to put it out in the open not super close to other electronics (at least a couple feet apart). If you're using it in wireless backhaul, I would at least try enabling the 6GHz as a dedicated backhaul to see if that improves things. My speeds are fairly fast and consistent with this unit. If one of these nodes is close to your gaming pc or console, even if it's on wireless backhaul, you can still connect an ethernet cable to it from your device, I would think that should improve things.

Yes if you want to keep that built in router active. You can also disable that router portion of the modem/router combo by setting it to bridge mode (which essentially disables it) or disabling it if there is an explicit option for that. Then you can run the Deco in router mode which is what I recommend

Are you controlling it with the Deco app? There are a few options in there albeit nowhere near as much options as an ASUS router but it does have some control.

This product .. in a nutshell, you can't. I'm pretty sure even in AP mode you need two 2.5GbE ports on the TP (ISP and Ethernet Backhauling). If you want 2.5GbE mesh WiFi then I'd recommend UniFi equipment with at minimum $500 Dream Machine SE (UDM-SE), [2, 3 or more] $300/ea U6 Enterprise APs, and a switch with at least the minimum number of 2.5GbE or 10GbE ports needed with sufficient PoE to power the APs at 2.5GbE or faster speeds e.g. $480 USW-Enterprise-8-PoE . Alternative example $1,500 3 pack of Orbi 960 Series Quad-Band WiFi 6E. To be clear, unless you have faster than 1GbE ($75/mo) and I soon will have 2.5 GbE myself FiOS fiber ($175/mo) .. It makes very little sense to worry about having your two satellites 2.5GbE speeds .. The primary TP-Link if you're not using wireless backhauling I believe we'll have the 2.5Gbps speeds and a good managed switch should allow excess speeds above 1GbE P2P, not internet speeds.

Well put. One thing I can add is that if your internet is up to gigabit. You can use the gigabit port on the deco to connect to the internet and for Ethernet backhaul, you can go from 2.5gbps port on the Deco to a switch that supports 2.5Gbps port then to the other deco 2.5Gbps port. Then you can hook up your devices to that switch and get a faster LAN, not faster internet. Faster LAN can help with faster speeds throughout devices that support it like getting some files from a NAS. In most cases, most people don’t need this special setup, hence if you don’t have the faster internet then you don’t really need something with a 2.5Gbps port. In summary, things are typically bottlenecked by the slowest of the ports they are interconnected with. Think of the 2.5Gbps port as an up to 2.5Gbps assuming everything down the line supports those speeds

@@landpet I’ll check out the software. Thanks! How are you forcing your phone to a certain access point to make sure it’s using the wireless bridge? Have you tried Ethernet client -> wifi access point -> wireless bridge -> access point -> Ethernet server during your tests?

I observed very similar behaviour to this, I was unable to break 300mbit/s unless I was standing on top of the mesh node at which point I could get 600mbit. I really don't think this is model is that good. Take a look at how much the wireless performance drops off with distance.

Either you have a defective device or you may have a modem/router combo in which the router portion of that should be disabled otherwise those two signals are clashing with each other. Also double check you have the latest firmware.

It supports wifi 6e but it does have a slight slower speed rating. For the price, it is more bang for your buck. I think it's a better buy.

Thanks! I do believe Asus mesh systems support VLAN. ASUS ET8 is one that also supports WiFi 6E. Generally speaking, ASUS has the most options from any mesh.

This is a good example of why I don’t like being tied down to a hub since there are alternate smart home devices that don’t require a hub.

Depends on a number of things like how fast is your connection, are you running wired or wireless backhaul, how many devices are you using? The safe answer is the XE75 Pro should be good for the price.
