Great comparison as always. I have had the BE85 for a few months now and they're great. Initially there were issues with the fans ramping up constantly making a lot of noise but that has been fixed. I also had an issue with connectivity with certain iPhone apps not connecting when on WiFi, but since disabling fast roaming and beamforming it's worked flawlessly.

I might give BE 85 another shot. I had issues after firmware update with some devices disconnecting and it losing internet every few hours when I got it few months back. My Apple TVs didn’t connect and now I remember iPhones were talking about issues with channels. I have never see that warning before when it couldn’t connect. Still afraid to give it a go, I tried the week max 7 and after giving it same name and password almost all my IOT devices wont connect. I had to power cycle them according to eero. Not really going to go unplug each bulb and play that game lmao. I have never had that issue before after swapping routers. Everything just connects.

The latest firmware seems to be more stable on the BE85, though I have had some random disconnection issues with Apple TV lately, but not sure this is caused by the BE85. Overall I would recommend them.@@NetworkNinja84

@@DRNU20The Orbi has both 5ghz and 6ghz for backhaul. It uses them together if the satellite is within 6ghz range. If you check the connection type between the router and the satellites it'll show you how they are connected. Mine shows 5ghz+6ghz. If they are too far apart it'll just say 5ghz as the connection type. Tested because I'm a nerd and I have to know how everything works. 😂

Yup, it’s part of the MLO to use multiple frequencies. The Deco’s dedicated 6GHz backhaul option didn’t help with the BE85 (normally it does for the 6E routers), must be cause of MLO.

Hey have you done any roam testing? Wondering if it seamlessly roams if you have a WiFi device and you walk around the house. Also are there any issues if you are sitting halfway between your two routers and the dbm is about the same does it struggle to latch onto the router?
@landpet
@landpet 7 ай бұрын
Yes, I walk around with my wifi device and they all have no issues jumping to the other node. Some are faster than others but none of them have issues. if you’re at the halfway point, it will most likely not switch unless one is under heavier load compared to the other. So it also tries to balance each node, it doesn’t want 100 devices connected to one node and 2 to the other.

I have pretty bad experience with Orbi 970 two pack so far. My current set up is ROG Rapture GT-AX11000 and for second floor i'm using Netgear EAX 80 extender. I have 980mbs/ 40 connection speed on wired devices. On second floor i have 400mbs/ 40 ( about half of maximum speed) via Netgear EAX80 via Wifi to most of the devices. When i installed Orbi 972a i was getting only around 200-250 mbs/ 30 via WiFi from Orbi Satellite and with a higher latency on second floor. Somehow Orbi 970 set up loosing to ROG AX11000 + Netgear Eax 80 set up. Also second floor satellite dropping the connection pretty often. Both main and satellite units running on latest firmware. Any idea how i can tweak it? So far i just want to return it.

I've been running the Orbi 970 for another 4 days (using it now) will switch to Deco BE63 shortly so I can start testing that. I've had no drops, there was a new firmware update and so far so good. If you're getting worse speeds with the 970 compared to your previous setup, I imagine placement is not great. The Orbi 970 should deliver full or almost full wireless backhaul speeds for those speeds. Make sure to update to the latest firmware. Orbi 970 is a solid choice, the only con is the price.

That’s odd, eero 7 is placed in the same spot as the Pro 6 and you’re using the same device? 50 feet should be no issue for this thing even with a couple walls assuming the Pro 6 was able to do it. Maybe try disabling/enabling wifi on your device to see if it connects btw, is your Pro 6 still running now? and if so is it the main router or did you switch to the max 7 as your main router? This can also make a difference but again at 50 feet it should work if the Pro 6 was able to do it.

Whats the deco be85 wifi 6 range like? Is it similar to range of wifi 6e?
@landpet
@landpet 6 ай бұрын
wifi 6e uses the 6ghz band, which is really short range. So when I do range tests, the further away I get, especially at 100ft, I'm almost certainly on the 5Ghz band (which is wifi 6 or below) and if I went even further I would be on the 2.4GHz band. There is a bit of a nuance here. WiFi 6E is actually WiFi 6 with the additional support of the 6GHz band. So when the 6GHz band disappears (it's no longer WiFi 6E but now it's WiFi 6) when I get further away, it just defaults to the 5GHz and then that eventually disappears and only the 2.4GHz band remains until that disappears and no more wifi.

They're all good but you can also check out the asus be96u (get 2 and run it with AiMesh) they have a dedicated gaming zone which is supposed to reduce latency over wifi. You could even connect your gaming device via ethernet to any of these even to a wireless backhaul node for even better performance.

Are you running the speed test on Asus router app? If so, that just tests the speed of the Asus router itself which is connected via Ethernet to your modem/ONT. @TK-vy4oi 6 ай бұрын
When you're getting up to those speeds, small changes to the wireless config make a big difference. Doing a speed test from an internet site isn't a good test of Wi-Fi performance, stability and security - particularly when you're using a mesh design. A few chatty clients on the WLAN whilst you're doing the test is enough to skew the results.
@landpet

It would be between the Orbi and the Deco. Both amazing, can't go wrong with either one but I find myself using the Orbi a bit more than the Deco when I'm not testing. Keeping price in mind, probably Deco is best. The issue is that the why applies to both Orbi and Deco cause they both get to my 5Gbps with ethernet, they both have amazing wireless backhaul and amazing range.

The Tri Band Deco BE85 isn't really comparable to the Quad Band Orbi 970. The Quad Band Deco BE95 would have been a better fight, but sounds like the Deco still came out strong. The Deco BE85 also has 2 6ghz bands (1 can be used for dedicated wireless backhaul) where the Orbi 970 only has 1 6ghz bands. The Orbi has 2 5ghz instead and can only use a 5ghz band for wireless backhaul. Wireless backhaul is not also only for internet speeds, but also if you have a server and are copying files over the network. For Wireless Backhaul the Deco BE85 should stomp the Orbi 970 for about 30% less cost, but I have not yet seen a comparison video yet.

Agreed but I don't have the BE95. Hoping to get one in the future. I will be doing a much larger selection wifi 7 comparison once I get my hands on a few more of these.

The BE85 has a dealbreaker problem for me. It has active fan based cooling and the fan ramps up intermittently and is VERY noticeable. For folks who enjoy silent computing this is a true dealbreaker. Why didn’t they design this to be passive cooled? Just build it larger!!! Range and reliability are the most important of the parameters. For my suburbia life, range is more important than speed. Which is why I prefer the Orbi when I’m 200 feet away in the street and still have a reliable WiFi.

I have tried deco Be95 and Be85. Terrible units. TP-Link has really lost it on the software side. I see the same issues on reditt. The unit auto updated firmware and was dropping my internet 5 times a day. Returned lol.

Thanks for your input, by any chance do you have another router on like a modem/router combo? Or something else router/extender like emitting wifi signals? If so, this would definitely hurt the wifi signals coming out of the deco.

@@landpet honestly it might just be their firmware at the time I tried. It was fine for few hours and I think it auto updated. I had recently swapped out my modem. It was very random after the firmware update and my Apple TV would not connect to the deco either. It was really frustrating. I may try again cuz I want to give it a go and reallly had great experience with decos in general at few businesses I have set them up at. The app may have prompted me to scan for channels or something so I am not sure if that created the issues with my wifi devices and Apple TV. But the disconnect from modem and no internet issue was really random and few times a day. Which really got annoying. I might give it another go since they are on sale now at Best Buy $200 off to see if they have sorted some things out. Oh I just tried eero max after your video. It was that only router that most of devices refuse to auto connect after giving it the same name and password. About 11 did. And I am not really going to unplug all the bulbs and smartplugs lmao. I did a few but then I gave up. It was just way too much work for me. Apparently they recommend cycling wifi on everything not a good choice if you have lot of iot devices. The only router that gave me this issue. So might be time to give deco another shot.

@@landpet So I am trying out the BE16000 right now and looks like TPLInk did plug a lot of issues. being the BE85 and BE95 on sales i might swap to that to see. But been rock solid for me. EERO max 7 just refused to auto connect most of my 2.4ghz IOT devices. I got a lot of them bulbs, plugs, etf. I have never had that issue with any other outer and BE16000 connected everything no issue with same name and password I have always been using. Was kinda disappointed in the max 7 in that regard.

The Deco is not worth it. Seriously I got the dual system and it doesn’t allow for you to assign a iot of things to the 2hz range. It keeps loosing connection with my ring honestly I recommend spending the money and getting the netgear. The interface is like trying to control a car without wheels.

Why don't you think about the security? TP-Link has a history of the backdoor thing, although it's cheap. Prices come with a reason. I never see a KZfaqr who will think about it; privacy is a priority now, especially when you use it every day at home.
