FLASHBACK TO 1973 and the made for TV Movie of Joseph Wambaugh's 'The Blue Knight' starring William Holden. The movie inspired a TV series starring George Kennedy as Officer Bumper Morgan from 1975-'76.

This movie was just released on Bluray in December 2018. In the movie, Bumper Morgan says he is two weeks shy of his 50th birthday. Holden was actually around 55 when this movie was made. This movie also has several scenes with the old Downtown Los Angeles gas towers in the background. The towers were torn down soon after this movie was made.

This was a short run series possibly, just saw a 1976 recording...lots of cop shows that didn’t make it back then

+Keith Hinkel I knew a SFPD who would do nothing else but patrol till he retired. Never became a SGT, just loved patrol.

There are still some old beat cops out there, maybe more back in the old days than today. Look at Sean Connery as Malone in The Untouchables. That character was like 50+ still walking the beat.

Exactly my point dummy Sean is no Cop! They can retire at 20 years. Sean & Holden were in 50's when these flicks made.

+Keith Hinkel But he pulled it off as Malone that's my point idiot! For that part he won an Oscar for best supporting actor so The Academy thought he did a pretty good job!
