Laphroaig 10, Port Charlotte 10, or Ardbeg 10? | Whisky VS

Күн бұрынTime to compare 3 very well known single malt islay scotch whiskies, Laphroaig 10, Ardbeg 10, and Port Charlotte 10 from Bruichladdich. I enjoy all 3 of these whiskies separately, but today I'm going to be blind tasting these 3 and deciding which one my nose and mouth likes the most. I was VERY surprised with the outcome of this exercise. Let me know which one of these 3 you think you would pick in a blind taste!

I'm glad you came back after your break. Yeh, Ardbeg 10 have great ashy finish. Btw, 2 weeks ago I tried Dewar's 8 portuguese smooth and I have to admit it is a great blend to drink with cola. Greetings 👍🥃

Glad to be back too! I really enjoyed the Ardbeg finish for sure. That dewars actually sounds pretty decent, my only experience with dewars is the white label and it was rough! Cheers 🥃

I promise I'm with you! The blind taste did terrible things to me, something definitely tasted off because I LOVE PC 10, cheers 🥃

Would be really curious to see how some of the stock offerings from other Islay distilleries would stack up, eg Bowmore 12, Caol Ila 12, and Lagavulin 16. I know the ages are different but could be fun to taste them all blind as you did with these three

I agree that could be fun, caol Ila 12 would be the one I'd have to actually try and find as bowmore 12 is usually easier to find and I already have Laga 16. Definitely putting this on the calendar!

PC10 wins easily. In terms of quality Ardbeg ten and Laphroaig 10 are shadow of them former selves.

Going in this is what I thought would happen. I love PC10 and bruichladdich is my favorite islay distillery. Something about blind tasting several whiskies changes everything for me, fun experiment!

Wow, your opposite of my picks, although there all great whiskeys and your splitting hairs here, I like the Ardbeg 10 the best followed by the Port Charlotte and then the Laphroaig. funny that the Port Charlotte 10 won Whiskey of the year in the 2023 online scotch whiskey awards.

I mean, when you are comparing 3 extremely similar whiskies "splitting hairs" is kinda what you gotta do. My order without blind tasting is PC10, Frog 10, Ard 10. Blind definitely makes it a bit different. Not surprised PC10 won whisky of the year though bruichladdich is great

Did the whisky taste better after revisiting? Was it indeed the glass?

Ya know, I went back to it and it did taste better, but the difference is I KNEW I was drinking it and I definitely think our brains create expectations for our taste buds. So doing this blind was a big wake up call for me, but I do still enjoy PC10 but I was definitely surprised 😅
