My Islay journey thus far, has been, in chronological order: Laphroaig 10, Uigeadail, Corryvreckan, Ardbeg 10, Lagavulin 16, An Oa. When I got to the Lagavulin, at the time, I felt it was a little too subtle for my tastes. But as I've been going back and forth between those aforementioned bottles, my appreciation for the Lagavulin grew. I doubt I'll be able to source Laphroaig 16, but I'll keep a weather eye out.

Aaaaah the boiz finally noticed Emma's mark. We gotta flood the vault with donations of older Islay bottles to compare so they keep checking. I was just thinking about this kind of comparison the other night - while younger Islays tend to share some commonalities, would older ones also tend towards a particular direction? Makes me wonder if the master distiller/blender at Laphroaig simply picked barrels that would take that 16yr in a similar direction as the Lagavulin.

Love the salty peat nose from laphroig. The 10 has been a regular stable in my house for years. Unfortunately, recently the 10 has gone from $42 to $54 at my local total wine. Caol ila is $62! This is due to the tariff war going on. These Islays are nice on occasion, but I wont be drinking from $50 and $60 bottles regularly - im not Gordon Gekko for cripes sake! Switching to bourbon and (hate to say it) local beer.

I remember in an episode a while back you commented about how some of the older stuff is because it had to sit that long to be judged by the distiller to be good enough. Apparently this brand just takes more time to reach perfection, since the 10 year never seemed that special to me.

I'm commenting on my own comment which I have absolutely no recollection of writing. The reason I'm doing so is because I really fancy a bottle of the Laphroaig 16 which I still haven't tasted.
