I'm a 72 year old heavy metal/hard rock fan. Discovered Lara from watching a reaction video of Jesuis Malade. Been listening to her non stop ever since. We're talking almost 4 months. Can't stop listening to her. Never been affected by any band or singer in my life like Lara affects me. She makes me want to cry when I hear her. Not to mention, she's one of the most beautiful and classy women on the planet, Inside and out. Great reaction by the way.

For me, Lara Fabian is not just a wonderfully talented singer she is a story teller/sharer - she tells a story through her voice and emotions but at the same time invites me to travel WITH her into that story and having "lived" the story I can relive it in my mind forever. She is the ULTIMATE vocal artist !

She touches me in a way that no other performer does... I am in awe of the talent. And I am also an old (62) metal head though have always been rather diverse in my listening choices. @Fedor Ivanov Lara's Caruso is the best version of the song because it's the way it was intended to be sung... not by Lucio Dalla of course, he wasn't that kind of a singer... but Dalla didn't intend for the song to be sung in an operatic way... Lara gives it a more down to earth beauty with less overforced power and more beautiful passionate silky notes that show the beauty of a song that was made by Lucio Dalla as a tribute to his friend Caruso... I wish that Lara was more popular in the US so that the pop music industry would be more influenced by her... I see all these young girls wanting to become "divas" but not understanding that vocal gymnastics alone aren't enough... Lara's way of singing should be taught as a mandatory lesson in every music school in the world... Lara's way of singing is THE RIGHT WAY... more emotion, less needless showing off with big notes and endless runs where they don't belong...

@@ericsicard910 Thank you my man... modern music is going to shit honestly... way too few actual artists come out of it because the industry wants mass production of meaningless singers because music is a very powerful tool to pass messages through it and as we all know the owners of this world don't want people with critical thinking and emotional education... they want robots who all think the same, all feel the same (nothing basically) and all are just smart enough to do work for them and just dumb enough to have no thoughts and no feelings of their own... Anyway... Lara is certainly not the kind of artist that the industry would like as a role model...

@@sportschool3537 you know we in France we have a passion for storytelling, somehow we are thus a bit (just a bit) more protected than some other countries from this point of view. @@ericsicard910 Anyone who criticizes Lara on "having a big voice" and belting too much is a complete moron and doesn't understand what passion and intensity in storytelling is... Anyway... the music industry is pretty terrible at this point... I mean, almost all the great songs we all know and love are all at least 10-15 years old by now and the huge majority of them are over 25-30 years old... which shows how recyclable the modern songs are... no soul and no real passion for music anymore... everyone is just trying to make a big hit that will play everywhere for a few months and get big money...

This is the song that Dimash covered on "The Singer" Chinese competition that brought Dimash to Lara's attention as she congratulated him on an amazing performance (though at the time his English pronunciation was still very bad). It turns out that she's been a big idol of his as he was growing up and I could tell that he learned a lot from her in terms of making his performances emotional when they need to be. He did several covers of Lara's songs (Adagio, Mademoiselle Hyde, Love is just a dream, etc.) and got to do several duets with her as well. It's so awesome to see how Lara's storied career influenced up and coming artists. She's a living legend!

I will definitely attend as I did like Julia review of Je suis malade. Adagio is Lara’s song: she wrote it and is the original performer. It was later covered by Dimash, Floor Jensen, Polina Gagarina, Giulia Falcone, and … Shirley Bassey. More info on Lara: Lara is recognized as one of the best vocalist ever seen on earth and all professionals list her in the top vocalist tier with Barbra, Whitney, Mariah, Celine, Lisa Fischer, .... We can debate her rank in this list (in my personal view she tops these) but she is there. There are also a few vocal characteristics that are her signature: her famous resonance for instance that allows her to sing without mic in venues with 8,000 attendees. Her nickname in the singing world is "the ring" due to this. I would also list her pleasant tone even when belting in her upper register. So she is one of the best vocalist ever, but on top of that, she adds a few things that make her an absolute package with no equivalence: • she speaks 4 languages fluently (french, italian, english, spanish) and has sung in 12 languages in total • she is an amazing song writer and wrote lyrics for most her songs, in the 4 languages she speaks. She often co-compose the music with the composer. • she acts and performs on stage as nobody else, she colors and reveals the meaning of every single word in the songs, and her ability to emote, to draw you in is second to none • she is the sweetest soul on earth, very humble, down to earth and benevolent. She likes to meet others, and her fans are always pleasantly surprised when this happens A quick background on her and her career: She is belgian, but also has italian roots (her mother is from sicilia). She was raised in both countries so she speaks both french and italian as native languages. She has been classically trained on vocal, piano and songs composition for 10 years ( from 8 to 18) in the Brussels Royal Conservatory. She is still having vocal lessons and training several times a week today. She started her career in Canada in the early 90s, more precisely in Quebec, the french-speaking part of Canada. She now lives in Montreal and has also Canadian citizenship She became very famous there and then conquered France in 1997 if I remember well (she topped charts there and some of her songs such as "Je t'aime" or "Tout" became classics of the french music). in 2000, she was about to penetrate the US Market. Her first english song (I will love again), a pop dance song, reached number one on the US Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart and number 32 on the Billboard Hot 100. Her Album ("Lara Fabian") was about to become a massive hit, and the concert "From Lara With Love" was recorded to be broadcasted everywhere in the US. This concert is legendary and the song you just reviewed is from this concert. But a dispute with Sony on artistry directions, and the will from Celine Dion's staff to block her progress in the US, completely broke this plan. She thus refocused back on Europe and made huge success there, extending her reach to Eastern Europe and Asia where she became an absolute superstar thru her collaboration with Igor Krutoy during several years. She is also a star in Brazil as her song "Love By Grace" used as the soundtrack for a very famous soap opera topped the charts for months. Many of her spngs became classics and were covered by the other singing legends: Barbra Streisand, Shirley Bassey, Josh Groban, … With her success in Europe, Brazil and part of Asia, she is the inspiration of the new generation of vocalists: most of them are coming from there. Thru their covers of Lara Fabian songs, USA is now rediscovering her. She is Dimash's idol: I’ve read somewhere that, when he was a child, he was listening her songs every night to get asleep. He covered many of her songs (that she wrote and performed originally). Out of my mind I can list: • Adagio, • Mademoiselle Hyde, • Know, • Love of tired swans, She also wrote the lyrics of his song « Your Love ». She covered « Love is like a dream » before him (song from Igor Krutoy originally performed by Alla Pugacheva) And they performed Ti Amo Cosi together with Aida Garafulina. This is a song that she wrote with Igor Krutoy and performed initially with Dmitriy Hvorostovsky and Alina Yaroyava. Dimash is now also working with Igor Krutoy. Many other top vocalists from the current generation covered her songs: • Floor Jansen (Adagio) • Polina Gagarina (Adagio, Je t’aime) • Diana Ankudinova (Tomorrow is a lie) • Morissette Amon (Broken Vow) • Gabriel Henrique (Love by Grace) • Cakra Khan (Broken Vow) • Katrina Velarde (Broken Vow) • Giulia Falcone (Adagio, Caruso, Je suis malade) • .... Today , she is 52 yo but she his still singing with her resonant belts, her magnificent tone, her stage presence, her artistry, her commitments to lyrics, story and emotions. She has used her vocal skills to work around the impact of ageing on her voice. Sorry if I was long, but I hope this gives some context on Lara. If you explore more of her songs, you will soon be hooked, I'm sure.

Superb analysis. And have I got a Fabian rec for you. First though, the thing that stuns me the most about her is not just her gorgeous voice (though it hits my neural net like no other soprano ever has) but how enormously skilled she is at implementing her 1001 brilliant choices. Amazing marriage of technical master & uncanny emotive abilities. Smart, smart, smart. Meticulous. I'm particularly fond of Adagio because this Fabian original pop treatment of Albinoni's Adagio (my fav) retains a strong echo of the source that covers of Fabian's Adagio lose straight away. 🤔 Another of her originals from this concert is not, at first blush, as "pyrotechnic" a song as either Malade or Adagio. You're Not From Here sounds so gentle & easy-breezy...but, wow! The things she does (while keeping it sounding effortless)! It isn't reacted to often. Excellent, articulate, empathic reaction/analysis to this magical performance. I've watched/experienced this other-worldly performance many times, and yet, your insightful/detailed/knowledgeable/expert analysis taught/showed me a lot of things/details I had missed before. You said it: listening to Lara perform these great songs is like having an "out-of-body experience". She is one of those rare performers who moves you spiritually/emotionally every single time you hear/see her. One thing that sets you apart from many song reactors (and makes you one of my favourites), is your openly appreciative/enthusiastic/empathic reactions. You're not only a great coach, but charasmatic and fun to watch.

Kind of like getting run over by a truck -- and loving every moment of it. I first heard Lara when I lived in Brussels in the early 90s and she is always better and better. This performance -- THIS performance, oh, this performance (I might just cry) of Adagio -- is one of the most gripping I've seen, of any song, anywhere, anytime. (Well, unless you toss in Je Suis Malade and Caruso. LOL) I can watch it over and over and always be moved by it. And, then, Julia....your reaction. A guy like me who knows very little about the mechanics of the voice and how a singer uses that to affect the audience -- he listens and enjoys and maybe even holds his breath for 5 minutes and perhaps sheds a tear or two -- without knowing why. Thank you for making the connection between the highly technical discussion of the human voice and why, when Lara uses hers, I get the shakes and am undone. Thank you.

I loved your reaction and the emotion, it is transmitted through the screen. Lara Fabian is spectacular as a vocalist. Dimash made a version of this theme, for my taste, worthy of reacting to it. Floor Jansen too, but since it wasn't live, in my case at least, I didn't connect with her as much, but she's definitely another worth seeing. Greetings Julia! PS. The storm heard outside is an echo of the storm of emotions that Lara makes you feel with her singing hehehe

Thank you for a loaded reaction, which is much appreciated. The more detail, the better for everyone. I think I'm in love with that voice. Lara's vocal abilities are magical... How she brings that together with the rest of her performance - body language, facial expressions, vocal interpretation. This entire composition is so stunningly and beautifully performed. All credit then also to the composer. Allow me... Lara's stage presence is phenomenal, an absolute gem. What a beautiful personality she must have in the way that she carries herself...absolutely respectful. Again, thank you so much for all the nitty-gritty details, but it was necessary to smooth out the flow of your reaction😊. I love that. ❤

Lara wrote the lyrics and co-wrote the music for this song, based on the classical piece Adagio in G minor, she is the original. It is a plea, a love song to the powers of inspiration begging them to never abandon her. This is the passion she feels about being a songwriter, and it's why, for me, no cover can touch her performance. It's deeply personal, it comes from the depth of her soul. She also wrote a version in Italian that I highly recommend you look up.

Oh yes, I am in for a treat - my all time favourite as far as female vocals go :) Thank you! P.S. fun fact - broadcast technicians use this song to tweak their multiband compressors and AGC sidechains due to INSANE power in the midrange which can cause a serious dip in total audio levels coming from broadcast audio processor boxes that are set-up badly. I know this song by heart - probably have listened to it about couple hundred times - and I never got bored :)

I think you'd also enjoy her wonderful live performances of "Je T'aime" (where the audience sings along throughout the whole song), and "Caruso".
@coolcat8b
@coolcat8b 2 жыл бұрын
Although the live performance of Je T'Aime is very sweet (obviously her fans love her), we don't get to hear her sing it fully, since more than half is sung by her fans while she sits on the stage. I'm not blaming her one bit, but hearing her sing the whole song fully is quite an experience. Lara is an amazing, a rare singer. To appreciate all the richness and subtleties, I suggest the studio version, or another live version.

@@coolcat8b Good point. I agree those are excellent. I love everything I've heard her sing (except for a few "pop/commercial" songs). But the love and connection between her and her audience, and her honest vulnerability in this live performance always is like a spiritual experience for me - every time I hear/watch it.

I love the way you're eyes roll back in your head at the end, it's how I feel EVERY time I hear her sing this. The way you're feeling is how I feel when I watch a gymnast complete a tumbling run that your muscle memory feels to your toes and your tensed to the hilt. Different genre, same muscle memory that you feel to your soul. Your flying in your soul.

Hello 👋😊 if you were surprised by her uplifting tone, listen to her “ You’re not from here”. Vocal coaches have all been surprised by her ability to create uplifting notes which according to all the vocal coaches is very difficult to do , and yet Lara does it so easily. Go ahead, 🤣😱 and enjoy , thank you for this review, I learned quite a bit from you.. my admiration for Ms. Laura is even greater because of what you described in this review. Thank you again ma’m. Great review. I loved your little bit about the connection about how, in performance, inner emotion is best expressed by all of the body, the face and the voice. Lara is a shining example of such expression. In this performanvce she produced maybe a hundred different faces, not to mention her hand, arm and body movements, using the space offered by the stage. I have never seen anyone perform with such ease and flow. If you look at her movie on KZfaq, Mademoiselle Zhivago, you will see she that, had she chosen that path, she would have made a very fine actress.
