Hi everyone!
This video tonight is an attempt to recreate a painting from quite some time ago! As often happens in this style of painting it is completely different! Having watched the video back while editing I think I could have stopped not very far into the painting process and it would have been a great painting but I had in my head I was going to create something similar to a previous painting.

Wow, I wasn't expecting that start! I wondered what you were loading the paints onto and why. Then, blam, straight across the page. That was liberating just watching it. What you did next was pure flow spirit and a deep understanding of watercolour as a beautiful medium for expressive painting.

I watch another artist that does the card swipe and I've been dying to try it for a while now...but my health has been not so good BUT....I am always so happy to at least be able to come here and be so inspired by such beautiful work!!! I just love your videos....your art...I don't know how to explain it...but it makes me very very happy! :) the looseness of them is always so fun and something I hope to be able to really work on at some point. I'm curious, have to ever done a video on your set up? Like your bowls of paint...do you just empty tubes into them and mix your couple of favorites as well..but as straight paint? Do you let them stay in and just dry out and wet them before you paint? I only ask because they always look so juicy and fresh :) do you cover them or anything? I just love to learn new things and see how people do things differently....its so fun to be able to see so many ways of making gorgeous art that makes me so happy. I appreciate SO much being able to come here and watch beautiful art being made, especially when I'm not able to do it right now :) it helps keep my head happy and positive and inspired!! I know its a lot of work, so just know it's very much appreciated!!!! Thanks so much!!!!!

Hi Jaded Enthusiasms! I am really pleased you like the videos and they are a lot of work but I am sharing something I love to do and so in many ways it is not work at all! I can answer a few of your questions. I just squeeze the tubes into the bowls mix them with a little water to the consistency I want which is probably like thick cream then let them dry out between session in the bowls. I don't cover them as that makes the water go yuk! I did that many years ago and never since! So I just let them dry out and then wet them with my spray bottle before I begin painting. Ideally a few hours before I paint I wet them! but sometimes I'm not organised and so just wet, mix with a hogs hair mixing brush and then start painting! Hope that helps!
@jadedenthusiasms

@@ScottSwinson super helpful!! Especially the thick cream part! And I did find the older video you made explaining all of this finally...it's pretty early on in case anyone else is looking...I'm not sure how to link it..but its a great video too!! Thanks!!

Hi Scott...I have a question, and anyone can answer of course...I'd love some feedback...right now I can only afford the winsor & newton cotman watercolors, and so my only colbalt blue is their colbalt blue hue...will it have the same...or close to the same look as your colbalt, which I assume is the professional grade? I read it's chalky compared to the professional one so wondered if it worth saving for or if the cotmam will be ok.... I also don't have light red...I have burnt sienna and basics like that, so don't know that it will make as beautiful a color as your mix...but just just curious if you or others had first hand dealings with both the colbalt blue hue from the cotman line and the professional. Also any color subs are very welcome!! Thanks so much!!
@ScottSwinson
@ScottSwinson 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Jaded Enthusiasms! I see you found my other video after this one! I think the most important thing is to paint. I don't think they are that different even for cobalt blue so I think just use cotman. I would upgrade my paper before upgrading paints or brushes. Enjoy!

@@ScottSwinson thanks!! Yea, paper is just so darn expensive! Most of my paint colors have been little gifts over the years and I have a bunch of canson xl 140lb watercolor paper...not great paper I know...but, its what I have and more expensive paper, actually any paper right now, isn't possible. But, it is definitely what I will be focusing on when things get better moneywise :) I do have a couple sheets of arches, but I've been too afraid to use them until I know what I want to use them for because they were given to me to try, but I absolutely can't afford more, so don't want to waste them...so feel like I want to practice more before using it. So, we'll see. But, no matter what, watercolor is so fun! It's funny because in regular life control is a big thing for me, helps me deal with my pain and ptsd...and drawing and detailed painting go with that...but some of my favorite things are letting go and just watching how watercolor moves and kinda does its thing...super fun!
