Winter Schedule
Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday and Saturday at 11AM Central!
How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a KZfaq channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

i am enjoying this and i can tell you that i see the problem with the knotters as plain as the nose on your face.whats happening is the blower is not cleaning the knotter aria well enough and fodder is building up under the plunger dog stops. thats causing the fodder in the chamber to make contact with the needles. it will drive you nuts until you clean that out. ill make a video for you.

I watched Wes's video. Then I watched this one. This is not criticism, more an observation. When I saw your knotters my first thought was, Wes's were never that piled up with material. It then made sense.

100% correct OLF. Also Ryan you don't have to tie the top or bottom back. I pull 4 ft out of the top twine and thread through the roller and drop down through the chamber(may have to bob it a couple times to get it to fall all the way down) then thread your bottom through the needle roller and tie the 2 together. Good to go!

Wes, you would also advised them that the tractor is not green and is therefore a fake tractor, which is bad, bad, very bad, problems should be expected! Is that a smaller krone? Wondering why they can run that with alot lower hp than an 8530? Or is it the fact that hay is a far heavier material. Plus, your output is alot higher if I can remember.

When you were treading the Krone's needle, it reminded me of the story of how John Deere got started. He realized when polishing his mother's sewing needles that steel would be better then cast iron for making plows in the sticky prairie soil.

what a great life-we farmed when tractors were becoming available- i started driving the hay wagon w/ a team of horses- then a small grey ford tractor and red farmall- my dad would get me set up in a field and i would be out there all day driving tractor in a field or ride the mower behind the tracto or pulling the hay bailer. how things have changed-but still the best life to live with a family.

The 72 series Case tractors came out the same time and competed with the John Deere 55 series. I ran both series of tractors when they were new and I preferred the Magnum. They were smoother shifting and pulled a chisel plow more smoothly .I believe because the Magnum was heavier in the front.

I like how nice of a pile those bales make when they're stacked. However, it looks like you had some trying issues as you were making them, compared to the relative simplicity of your round baler's operation. If nothing else, you got some experience with a new-to-you piece of equipment that you might otherwise never have gotten. And we had the fun of being entertained by Hannah's shenanigans.

Today is the first time I got to see how ur farming works, as I have now opened my eyes and have thought that they are hero's too, not because the army has to be a hero's, not only because they have been to wars and receive a medal, think what KEPT us ALIVE every day of our lives, farmers have to make sure animals live another day until they come to their age then off to be slaughter for our food and many other animals reasons too, vegetables and so on, to make sure there is food on our plate every day. So I salute u all farmers, doctors, nurses, police, and people working in bigger shops too are hero's while the virus going on. Big thank u all and God Bless u worlds.

Hi from oz Ryan. You’ve finally found the best brand of baler. There are tricks of the trade too using square balers and troubleshooting them. It’s a good idea to spend time with an operator if you’re planning on doing a lot of wok with one to learn the tricks. With those knitter problems I knew exactly the cause. Easily fixed with a hammer LOL. the manual even tells you to use a hammer LOL. Anyway I love my Krone big square although at times they are frustrating.

@samkom33
@samkom33 Жыл бұрын
good point,, but you dont steel fertilizer by baling the straw! You just BORROW it a year, as long as you use it around the farm, and dont sell it.. Eighter by using it as bedding ore mixing it in with tmr rations, it will be mixd with manure and be put back on the field. It saves the farmer from buying say sawdust ore sand for bedding.

Actually round bales have been around since the late 40’s early 50’s. Allis Chambers made a small round baler. Bales were the same size as regular square bales. They were popular because less moving parts, unpopular because they were hard to stack.

Balers Break, they did 30 years ago and still do today. When you have moving parts they break. Hay season is a stressful time on a farm, especially when you have every kid in the area coming over for hay rides. i really think that's why round bales were designed so the kids had nothing to sit on LOL
