Equipping large trucks with forward collision warning and automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems could eliminate more than 2 out of 5 crashes in which a large truck rear-ends another vehicle.
These 30 mph tests demonstrate the how effective AEB systems can be in large trucks.

Notice the test is done on a dry straight away , were a driver should see the vehicle ahead of time ? Now imagine this , even at a low speed , going around a corner , on slick roads ... or worst yet those same conditions with nothing in front of the truck but it reacts to a shadow , over pass or guardrail in the corner like the only truck I drove with this system did . It almost caused a major interstate pile up and only luck and skill is why I can reflect on that experience. I refused to drive that truck again and refuse to get in one with that system . I am not having the deaths of others or suffering injuries because of this flawed system .

Nothing in front of me, almost got rear-ended by car behind me. And it stopped me on a rail crossing. There has been a number of times the collision warning has sounded and the closest vehicle is 2 to 3 miles ahead of me. Beginning to wonder if this is a good idea. At the time I was 78,000 gross.

This is only great when you are a terrible driver and don't pay attention. In everyday function it is a nightmare. You ever wonder a truck suddenly hits the breaks out of nowhere after a person just got in front of them. Well that's because this system will involuntarily apply the breaks for you if a vehicle is traveling too close or slows down way too fast. So those people who like to go 70mph to get in front of a person and then bump down to the speed limit will cause issues

Sorry, but more technological rubbish that will be undone easily by the lack of reliable components. No electronics can react and perform anywhere near the level of a human being. There are so many variables to an incident such as this that the computer will never be able to react fast enough. What we saw in the video is easily done by any driver who is even half asleep. Most drivers would have pulled up sooner. And as others have said. You have that truck loaded up with anything up to 100 tonnes and see how easily the computer brings the truck to a halt. So many trucks have approx 40 tonnes in the back and they are not going to stop in that distance. This lunacy of trying to computerise and electrify all road vehicles is only going to end in the deaths of many more people.
@GCag
@GCag Жыл бұрын
Although these systems are not perfect, keep in mind that humans make more mistakes than computers. Computers don't talk on mobile phones, text, or have to review their documentation, all while driving. They are not subject to the many distractions that affect all humans. Like all technologies, they continue to improve as time goes by.

@scottthewaterwarrior
@scottthewaterwarrior 2 жыл бұрын
Depends how bad the glitches are TBH. Slightly applying the brakes for 1/4 of a second every now and then would be annoying, but not unbearable. Coming to a stop/near stop on the highway over a false alarm sounds like it would be even more dangerous for the truck driver and other traffic.
@JonNo86
@JonNo86 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottthewaterwarrior I've had it on 2 trucks over a 6 year period, and I think I've had a "glitch" or "false alarm" that was THAT bad enough to where the truck almost came to a stop only 3 times. And even in those 3 times, all you have to do is turn off your cruise and stomp on the accelerator and it disengages. So many truckers keep trying to say it's dangerous because it slams on the brakes constantly, and it's just not true.

companies are trying to use technology as a coverup for ignorance behind the wheel, 4 wheelers are not properly trained when they get their drivers license how to act around trucks, and if I had my way their would be a massive crack down on companies that have training programs for 4 wheelers to get a cdl A/B and after getting their CDL A/B would have to do a mandatory 500 hours driving time logged by an ELD with an experienced driver that would be also required to do 500 hours of on duty not driving while logged into an eld to make sure that the training is actually occurred. None of the teaming inexperienced bullshit. If the training hours don't match aka way off without a doubt trainee cdl A/B revoked on the spot for a 1 year period and will have to start all over again. For the trainer CDL A/B out of service for 1 month and no training for 2 years. repeat offenders 3rd time Trainee CDL A/B revoked for life. Trainer out of service for 3 months and revoked from training for life. everyone at least deserves a second chance at life and sometime a 3rd, but if training can't be taken seriously then please leave and find a different career that way less people die. As for drivers that have a CDL A/B and drive aggressively / stupidly for no reason including but not limited to tailgating other vehicles and the like. Three strikes your out CDL A/B revoked for life. you want safer roads then everyone needs to do their part its a good day when everyone gets to go home without being in a wheelchair or body bag Fun facts: average 4 wheeler 3500lbs to 10,000lbs and that's being generous on the high side vs. semi truck 80,000lbs and can be more with permits example 120,000lbs

They have a bad tendency to lock the brakes up for no reason. They will get people killed. The first thing a school teaches cdl students is to maintain control of you're truck at all times. If a faulty sensor locks up your brakes at 65mph you are no longer in control of the vehicle. If the trailer slides out it's gonna start rolling, these trucks will cover 4 lanes of traffic if that happens . Don't wish for them in every big vehicle wish for proper training for new drivers.
