One thing I learned is that the Kanem Bornu Empire is that they were one of you African kingdoms at that time to have their hands on firearms probably the earliest. Thanks to the Ottoman Empire and then you add The Mercenaries they were a problem and that's why the Songhai Empire couldn't explain any more West instead they became allies. I have also heard that the Songhai Empire also had connections to the Ottoman Empire but refuse to use Firearms or modernize their military which kind of led to their downfall besides internal fighting in the slave rating.
