My favorite thing about Larry: The man didn't see color. Players like Isaiah Thomas said that if he was black, he'd be just another average player. Larry's response: "So?" He didn't care. @lmaolaughmyassout79884 жыл бұрын
@Stephen Forfer so you just gon diminish bird's greatness? What bout the clutch plays he has made to win them games, what bout the hustling which sacrificed his body? Wanna mention bird has a broken knuckle before even entering the NBA? There's no telling Pete would have won as much or more than Larry bird. Pete was known to be a ball hog as good as he could pass the ball, Larry was great at the game not just skillfully but he could read and play the game better. Larry bird bailed his team out so many times its not something numbers can record. Ok I get it Pete maravich's best game performance is better than bird's best game ever. But you know what Larry bird is the better player

A LETHAL MARKSMAN OF THE HIGHEST ORDER.... NUFF SAID.... LARRY LEGEND....

Lack of athleticism was an accusation always leveled against Larry Bird, and yet he dominated. For all the supposed athleticism of today's NBA, no one has yet explained to me how and the hell Marc Gasol won Defensive Player of the Year four years ago, and a 36 year old Tim Duncan was all NBA first team just five years ago. Yes height and athleticism are prerequisite in basketball, but basketball is and always will be a skill and mental game for those that truly excel, and Larry Bird was on another level in both aspects. If the 2017 NBA playoffs (Warriors and Cavs excluded) is any indicator of the present level of skill of the above average NBA player, I suggest they get out of the training room and get their asses in the gym, because that's where Larry Bird would be, and yes he would dominate in today's NBA. It would be a clinic.
@kidpeligro78787 жыл бұрын
What you say is true, Bird and his generation value FUNDAMENTALS and SKILL in one's game. Thats why they had longevity and able to stay in the game to become great. Most young players today often rely on athleticism and tend to forget about developing skills. That's why after around their 7th season they'd fall to obscurity because they can't compete anymore because they not as athletic anymore

@HugoSoup577 ай бұрын
@@chefcurry6204Kevin McHale is one of the greatest PFs of all-time. What are you talking about? Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson, and Danny Ainge were also HOFers in their prime. Even Bill Walton was a 6th man at that point. The Lakers had Kareem, James Worthy, Byron Scott, and Kurt Rambis. Before Pippen became an All-Star in 90 and Phil Jackson became the head coach in 89, Jordan had cocaine addicts like Orlando Woolridge and Dan Carzine as his best help against the stacked Celtics and Pistons teams with All-Stars such Isiah Thomas, Bill Laimbeer, Joe Dumars, Dennis Rodman, and John Salley. Pippen was his only teammate who was an All-Star. Rodman was an All-Star on the Pistons, not the Bulls. Horace Grant was a 1x All-Star. Toni Kukoc and Steve Kerr never made an All-Star team. We were the only team that were keeping the Warriors from having a monopoly on the championship. I also hate that he gets so much love, when he has about as much defensive skill as a wet piece of toilet paper. He couldn’t defend my grandmother 2 hours after she’s had a stroke, but because he played on a stacked team that could hide him on defense, he got to sit in the corner, guarding the worst player on the other team every single night.

I watched every Celtic game with Bird . You have to have seen him play night in and night out to understand how good he was. Bird could score 10 pts for the entire game and still have been the best player on the floor and the difference maker in getting the win. Bird could easily have scored 40 pts a game if he wanted to, or more importantly if he needed to. The competition in the Eastern conference in the 80s was intense, the sixers teams only won one tittle with a team of all stars and some hall of famers. The 80s sixers would destroy today's teams, never mind the has with Wilkins , the bucks, oh, and of course the lakers, who lost to the rockets twice in the west finals..The physical play of the 80s would have these little babies playing today running to their mommies looking for a safe place. Bird is without doubt top 3 of all time.

I've a memory for this game that dates back to the 1980. If i could build a dream team, Magic woud be my PG with zero internal debate. Magic said "Bird was so good it's frightnening". I consider that a strong endorsement haha.

I don't know how people can say he's not in the discussion for top 5 players of all time or even in the discussion of being the best because if you took away lebron or MJs athleticism and physical gifts they were born with and put them in Larry Bird's body there is no way they would or could have done the things he did. For Bird to be so great while being slow and unathletic just shows his heart, toughness, determination and his basketball IQ is probably the best ever. What more can be said and for him to accomplish everything he did in only 13 seasons is unbelievable and truly amazing. His body just wasn't built to do what he did and in the end his body betrayed him

I beg to differ because my opinion is that Mj is the GOAT and Kobe is the 2nd greatest of all time then Larry Bird or Lebron James

Larry is top 5 at best
@HugoSoup574 жыл бұрын
High_on_ Blitz Larry is #5 or 6 on my list, I’d put him above Magic. The GOAT is MJ IMO, then Kareem, LeBron, Wilt, and then probably Bird for me. Bill Russell, Magic, Hakeem, Duncan, and Shaq are also in my top 10.

Let me illustrate Larry Bird's greatness. I'll put it in comic book analogy it goes like this. Jordan is Superman i.e. athleticism and he has his offshoots Kobe, Lebron etc. Magic is the Joker due to the theatricality and showmanship but...... Larry is the fucking Batman cuz he's a genius. Someone make that shirt.

Larry bird is like the Tom Brady of the NFL. Not the most athletic or even flashy, but gets the job done, wins games, and both easily one of each sports all time greats.
