It's tough seeing this team lose, but A'ja played amazingly as ALWAYS!! Kate played very well for her first career start. Tough to get a win when AC is having an off night, no Jackie Young, KP went missing after the half, and Kiah Stokes has just been a non-contributor offensively. Really hope this lull that Kiah is in ends soon - because she is bailing out any defense as it literally becomes a 4 vs 5 on the offensive end.

The upside of having key players out is that your bench gets game experience, and when starters come back, you have established players that can come in and perform w/out losing leads, maintaining systems, etc. Kate won't start when Chelsea, etc come back, but Coach has to love what she has for the second half. Aces will be right back into the race, don't count them out as a 3-peat.

Obviously how she got to the League at Draft Night, her overall story as "The Glue" on the feel-good Iowa Hawkeye team, her all-around game as a 2-way player and her versatility to guard 1-4, her incredibly high IQ, her 100%+ hustle, desire, & grit, and her incredible shooting fundamentals to her shot form, flow, & touch....even now seeing her courageouly shoot her "Luka" fadeaway last night versus the Sparks. But it also seems to be more than that. There is something about her PRESENCE. And I think the Aces Stars and Vets and Coach Hammon find "It" comforting and have embraced "It" quickly. Kate also embodies a lot of Coach Hammond's personal story in how she got into the League utilizing these types of qualities of hard work, intelligence, skill, leadership, and grit to become a household name and now the greatest Women's Coach in the Game. Almost as if Kate would be the perfect "Mom to Daughter Clone" if Coach Hammond would have picked the qualities of her daughter in the Game. Feels very nurturing and symbiotic on both sides. Once again....draws me back to Presence. There's no doubt that Becky's belief in Kate has now solidified her in the Game for the rest of her career and for her eventual post-coaching career. It's amazing how one woman's original belief in her as a WNBA player....when others doubted....was all it took for Kate's Presence to Rise & Shine. I give a lot of props to Coach Hammond. Sometimes in life to get your big break....it takes just one person in an influential position to believe in you to make it happen....which then opens the door for many more believers to come. Let Kate's inspiring story be a reminder to us all when in pursuit of our dreams why it's important to keep going.... Additionally, strategically, she really fits well with A'ja Wilson. Games like these build necessary character. I’m bummed they didn’t win but this loss seems like it ignited what they needed. They’ve had a hard time closing out games but it’s understandable with starters missing. However, the way both A’ja and Kate spoke of each other and especially how Kate spoke of A’ja’s leadership is key. That was real special and all facts! Kate also showed some really good partnership in being guided by her leader! For her first start, she did well. I hope Kate doesn’t let this game get her in the ruts because she did a good job. I’m curious as to why a player (in this instance Kate) has a hot hand, then there is no adjustment to free her up and take advantage in the second half. I get that you have a game plan, and want to follow it… but that game plan needs to be a bit more flexible.

Honestly from watching the game. Too many times do they not swing it to the corner and wing specially Kate. She’s always ready and she’s shown she can shoot it. They need to get that shot over to her. She’s been in high stress situations before. She’s money for a reason. Trust her or make a play for her. And if not make a play make sure the team knows to get that shot over to her than take contested stuff in the paint or the midrange where all the defense eyes are. It’s honestly the biggest thing I’ve noticed from watching the game, they leave the corner open against this team

Is Kate trying not cry?

Once the team is healthy they will be fine. They are missing once of their biggest piece Chelsea Gray who facilitates and makes great decision making on the floor. In my opinion CG is the 2nd best player on the team and next is Jackie. She is doing a good job in Chelsea's absence. But having our our main playmakers out this game, it's harder but it was a close game. Kate and Tiffany played well and they will be big in the playoffs. I just want to point out that Kelsey Plum needs to do a better job as a facilitator. She's a score first PG and the team offense looks erratic when she's running the point. Her biggest weakness is she has poor decision making ability. In a close game you have to be steady and be smart in calling a play for your team as PG.
