It's a good machine. @ 48K mm/min, it's definitely not a batch processing industrial machine, but it's far from a hobby machine, too. Ideal for a small business, really. Jeweler's shop, electronics (making or cleaning pcb's), product bar/qr codes (especially for large products that require a portable laser), make your own merch, etc. It's pretty handy at my business.

Thanks! Depends on how big your cup is. I engraved that steel thermos shown at the end of the video by simply spinning the module around 180 degrees and elevating the base. Pretty versatile little machine.

The only bare metal that a diode laser can etch/mark (not engrave) is stainless steel. They can't etch any other metal unless it's coated, and in that case only the coating is etched or removed. You mean laser engraving vs laser etching vs marking, technically. You're conflating etching and marking, but there's a huge difference between them. Pencils, pens, crayons, markers and marking agents/sprays make marks. These are not as permanent as etching or engraving and are not shown anywhere in the video. Etching heats and permanently distorts/discolours and slightly raises the surface to produce a texture that can't be removed without grinding or cutting it out. It's a physical process that changes the surface structure without compromising it. This is shown everywhere in the video. Lay folk are free to call it marking, but it's not technically the same. Marking adds material. Etching neither adds or removes material. Engraving removes material, like the paint on the wrenches and metal business cards shown. Engraving can be as deep or as shallow as the user prefers provided they have the laser power to do what they want. This machine can remove paint and other coatings from a metal surface, and it can etch said metal surface and plastics. Again, like those wrenches where I remove the paint (engrave) and etch the metal below to produce a nice bronze colour. In other words, it can engrave, etch, and even mark using a marking spray if you prefer...to the extent that a 2w infrared laser can. Different laser types/power work different materials. This machine is strictly for metal and plastic. Their LP2 can cut, engrave and etch materials like wood and leather. The LP4, which I'll be featuring soon, combines the laser tech from 2 and 3 to do it all with up to 10W of output power. It's definitely not the most powerful, but the versatility and portability makes up for it. Again, a great machine for a small business that doesn't necessarily provide laser engraving/etching services but does require some and prefer to do it themselves instead of commissioning another company to do it. With that said, engraving isn't necessarily the best process for every application. Engraving, etching and marking are each better than the others for certain jobs. Depth isn't everything. It could be more of a detriment than anything, like using it to create a mural on a cutting board or charcuterie board. Could you imagine the gunk that would build up? Burning (ie etching) would be a better solution in that case. Just one example.

Yes. It will engrave just about any metal. Steel, aluminum, copper, brass, nickel, silver, gold, titanium, chromium, painted, anodized, powder coated or bare.

It's only a 1W laser. Need at least 5W to do any sort of cutting, like the LP2 - that's why it comes with a shroud. But this comes with safety glasses and safety instructions. The user just needs to provide the common sense to use them. Like wearing sunglasses and not staring at the sun, or not being careless with fire, that sort of thing. That's not to say that accidents don't happen, but I'm more at risk of firing a spike into my hand with the framing nailer at work or catching a ricochet in the face than I am of being hurt by this laser.

No. Check out the Laserpecker 2 or 4. This uses an IR laser that's suitable for metals and plastics. The LP2 has a blue diode laser that's suitable for organic materials like wood, paper, and others like stone and even stainless steel (but no other metal). Nope. I talk like it's a relatively affordable investment for both serious hobbyists and entrepreneurs, like jewelers. I never once implied anything else. This isn't a cheap machine. Affordable isn't necessarily cheap. A $100K house could be affordable to some, but not to others. Some folks have bigger budgets than others, some purchase homes for different reasons than others. But $100K isn't cheap regardless who's paying for it. That's a serious investment. Relatively affordable means a similar or lower cost investment compared to a similar product that's available for the same return. The key words here are relatively and affordable. The logic isn't complicated to understand if you're a serious hobbyist or small business owner. Not once did I ever say cheap. Cheap = junk in my dictionary, and I don't make deals with brands who make junk that'll make me look bad in the end, and I certainly wouldn't insult them by implying their product is 'cheap', ie junk.
