good to dial dwn the alternator current, suggest 50A because your Alt. Belt is a small regular belt and it does not last very long with an 80 Amp output. The rpm gauge wire puts out a low voltage AC signal that feeds the rpm gauge..

Thats smart you have a cooling system on the Battery, suggest to have a temp sensor also on the alternator, I know its a smart alternator but its good to have a temp indication on that. If you have LI batteries, I suggest to have some kind of back up Battery for it as many sailors report these sudden unexpected BMS cut outs. Some sailors keep a small AGM as emergency back up. Very nice videos, keep it up !!

Yes we have the temp sensor on the alternator installed, it shuts off charging in case of overheating. We kept a spare battleborn battery uninstalled in case of issues. We alsh have a starter battery installed :)

I have a dive compressor on my 30ft Catalina. A Yong Heng from Ali-Express. The size of a large kid's lunchbox. I plumbed in the main water supply to cool it...the model you have I've not heard about its reliability. I didn't get it because I felt it didn't have enough of a track record.

Youre boat at 36 feet and all the toys and gear needs to be 55 feet. Lol . Same as me. I have 37 feet. I used to carry 18 surboards and still had room for me. But since 2020 i now carry 2 years food supply ,3 freezers and spares ready for apocolypse. I am sleeping in the sea birth and can hardly ad another thing. But i can go 3 years in the most remote of locations like gilligans isle ,with starlink and be connected to know when shtf.

Looks like Grace is on the mend and doing quite well, I'm sure the virus will run it's course soon. When your immune system takes a beating like yours has in the last year, not surprising that something like a virus would hang on a little longer than normal. Bill you are one clever guy, outsmarting your starlink system, lol. I'm excited to see the new dive compressor, just means you 2 will have even more opportunities to film some spectacular footage!

Great explanation on the alternator Stuff Bill. " He So Smart!".. lol. And there goes Grace, back to the Sea. "Follow ups" may throw a wrench into your timeline....nothing more important...Zero. But you guys got that Memo. They are closing the border at Lukeville In a matter of hours. Now the trip will be 14 hours?...see how plans change? 12/4 it's closed. Maybe they'll get a chance to Clean that Bathroom at the gas station at Lukeville? Hopefully it'll reopen soon. That's a Huge Wrench in my plans...it will work out I'm sure...I need Camarones, oysters, and SALT..

I’m sure your Vitamin D level was checked. The Association of Endocrinologist recommends a minimum level of 40 to 60 ng/ml. Which is way different from the cdc.

I had never given any thought to my alternator other than watching to see one single light either blinking or solid showing charging or charged. I learned more when I accidentally shorted a wire off my oil pressure switch that told the alternator the engine was running. I learned a lot when that happened. For simplicity keep your starter battery and house batteries isolated. It gets complex when you mix it especially if you have different chemistry on the batteries. It was interesting watching the Starlink hack. My Starlink used to hold in even when swinging on anchor but recently has started losing signal periodically. I thought it was growing pains and my mobile plan was being stepped on by priority land based plans. Did this hack help you?

The motor disable as been a huge upgrade, we were pushed to do it when we were rafted up with our friends on alegria who had done this mode... their connection was much more stable than ours

Did you rewire in such a way you can easily put the spare alternator in if you have to, without a major rewire? Murphy's law says this will be in the least optimal conditions possible. Draw the new wiring plan to a plastic card and tie to the spare, helps reduce the effects from Murphy. From experience!

Suggestion: suggest to install vents, ducts using a 12Vdc computer cooling fan for keeping the battery bank cool, also keeping the alternator and your Inverter / converter cool, I think you have some of this already but suggest to go over it again. Installing a temp probe with gauge near Alternator and Inverter and Battery is also a smart thing to do.

This alternator was installed as a emergency spare internal regulator awhile back. The battery bank already has a ducted fan.

Yes we have a blower on the battery bank/inverter space, it turns on when we motor or charge the batteries heavily

If I am hearing correctly, Grace’s sister’s dog’s name is Bijou, ‘precious gem’. I had a Jack Russell Terrier named Bijou. She was a special part of our family for 16 years. And although she’s been gone for several years now she lives on in our hearts. ❤

I was told by some folks in Australia that IF they only turned it on when anchored, they didn't have to pay the higher fee for offshore sailing ? Is something like that true ? (Another words, am I really describing what is happening ? I had heard earlier it depended more on how far offshore you were located ) . Hang in there Grace, you guys are almost free !
