The Sound of Music is a 1965 American musical drama film produced and directed by Robert Wise, and starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, with Richard Haydn, Peggy Wood, Charmian Carr, and Eleanor Parker. The film is an adaptation of the 1959 stage musical of the same name, composed by Richard Rodgers with lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II. The film's screenplay was written by Ernest Lehman, adapted from the stage musical's book by Lindsay and Crouse. Based on the 1949 memoir The Story of the Trapp Family Singers by Maria von Trapp, the film is about a young Austrian postulant in Salzburg, Austria, in 1938 who is sent to the villa of a retired naval officer and widower to be governess to his seven children.

All of us age and if beauty is looked at differently at a certain age. I agree they aged gracefully sadly unlike other celebrities whose face reconstruction to look "ageless" ended dreadfully.

Our Girls School saw The Sound of Music at The Pantages in Hollywood with the Nuns of our school. I was 14 loved the film. Today I'm 70 and still love it.

@@Nagham- Kym was 7. I'm especially interested in the dynamic between her and Irwin Kostal, the conductor. The way "Irv" slowed his tempo to a crawl for Kym's solo line in So Long, Farewell, and cut his power so low that it would barely register on nay scale, is touching. Even Irv must have felt goose-bumpy.

First saw this movie in Manchester, England when it opened in 1965. Went on the trip with my younger brother. Being young boys, ( 11 and 8 ) we didn’t think it would be a good movie due to the title. However we were very much surprised how great it actually was. We took mum to see it when it showed in our local odeon centre in Chorley, England. It became one of mum’s favourites along with Calamity Jane and Seven brides for seven brothers.

They missed gretl...and they screwed up on older curt ..which I know wasn't him. What they used was Christopher picture then they went to the clip that was actually of him . I forgot how.many of those that played the children have already passed
