I LOVE how they have incorporated diversity in the new show... BUT this whole "unbelievably white show" stuff, I just don't agree with. (And I'm Black! lol) It was about THEIR world, but still relatable. What's important is that people (Black and ALL other kinds) need to space to be able to tell THEIR STORIES!!! Because tokenism is not okay at all (that I think the show did a great job of NOT doing). if I'm watching a an all-black cast, I don't need a token white/hispanic/lgbtq+ etc IF it isn't authentic to the story. Frasier, Seinfeld, etc. was "all white" and was still good. Some people live all black/white/etc. lives etc. and there's nothing wrong with that. BUT it is important to have more diverse stories and storytellers available... I just hate the way we piggyback on trends/hot topics, and don't have REAL conversations.
@julieb7785
@julieb7785 2 жыл бұрын
Nixon and the others looking back over their shoulders and apologizing for the whole "white show stuff" is disingenuous. They're saying what they think needs to be said. I was totally expecting tokenism ....and then ended up loving the 3 new gals who portrayed such real women.... (the law prof, realtor and Charlotte's tennis buddy) who are way more interesting than the old 3 characters... And no, we don't have REAL conversations...too much tip-toeing.

The new characters still have 1 dimensional storylines and seem to be there BECAUSE they’re POC and nothing else. This Latina was perfectly fine with the original series and would’ve been fine had it just been the original cast.
@TheSpaceInBetweenChannel
@TheSpaceInBetweenChannel 2 жыл бұрын
@@sarcasticallyrearranged Yea, the creators of the show said that just like when they made SATC to showcase the rise of women’s independence and sexuality to reflect what was going on in the world/changing in society, they wanted to do that again, but with the new hot topics of race and identity that has been (always here, but) on the rise… to reflect the current climate of our society. I think they did a good job of keeping it about the core women (M, Char, & Carrie), bit I also think the new characters are way more than one dimensional. But yea, everyoneI know wants their storylines to go deeper. I’momay with that too, but honestly, they’ve never really done that with any of the other side characters (i.e. Stanford - whom I miss dearly!!! 😢)they were always just “the friend”. But with the purpose of the new show being to expand on the “white lens”, I guess they have to??? IDK 🤷🏽‍♀️ Either way, I’m still a fan and here for it! 🙌🏾

Michael Patrick King is fully responsible for the disaster of And Just Like That; his gaggle of writers know what he wants and regurgitate it back at him. Cynthia Nixon, Kristen Davis, and Sarah Jessica Parker are guilty insofar as they approve of their characters as written and see nothing wrong. Kim Cattrall is the winner for her decision not to participate. Samantha Jones deserves her own show, a woman in her 60s experiencing life and love across the pond. And then I heard that Miranda is leaving Steve coz at 50-something, after almost 20 years of marriage with grown children and not ever questioning her orientation before and not ever experimenting, she's just now realizing she's lesbian (or bi or queer). Wth! What a load of unbelievable BS. And Steve was the one guy on that show that was "normal." Just a regular down-to-earth loyal guy who loved her! I hope they don't write off his character and have him meeting some hot girl 20 years younger than him who'll treat him so much better. After everything I've read about it, this show doesn't seem worth watching at all.

I loved 'Sex and The City' and I liked 'And Just Like That' and I wish they would stop saying that the first version had problems because it was predominantly Caucasian. Fro a good lilttle while there Cynthia Nixon's character, Amanda dated a guy of colour in the show; Blair Underwood. And Samantha either dated or just had sex with a guy of colour too. And there were a couple of gay friends in 'Sex and The City' also who had prominent roles. There are lots of minorities that have very close people of colour as friends in their close knit group and there is nothing wrong with that. This is not to say they have issues with other races or faces, but their circle just happens to be of one group so why is that being portrayed as a problem. If you want talk about an only Caucasian shows look at the entire HGTV Network. All their on-air talent are white. And The Food Network isn't all that much better.

Off-AJLT-topic: if the corsets hurt or are uncomfortable, "are not your friend", the costume designers didn't do their job right. A good corset should sit like a good bra. If necessary, custom-make it.

#corrections Cynthia Nixon was in the 1988 movie, "The Manhattan Project." Don't you research your guests. How could you and your writers miss that through line: From Manhattan to Manhattan. The movie also starred: John Lithgow, Christopher Collet Richard Council, John Mahoney, Sully Boyer, Richard Jenkins, Timothy Carhart, Steve Blum, Robert Sean Leonard and yeah...Cynthia Nixon. #corrections #youjackeledyourself

I feel like they're doing inclusivity all wrong. I feel like a better way to do this is write an interesting character with certain personality traits and a story line and then do a casting without preset expectations on what the character is supposed to look like, and if an actress/actor auditioning is portraying the character really well and it's a good vibe, they get the job and if they happen to not be white their character happens to have that ethnicity (unless there are conditions to the storyline that the character must have a certain ethnicity). Not what I feel they were doing - oh, we really need some black and brown characters in there so we'll quickly write some characters and make up a superficial storyline and cast accordingly. Remember the cringe scene where Miranda said she chose the seminar because it was "important to her" that Nya was black... same attitude here. Same for Che, she's not an interesting character just living her life who happens to be non binary - being non binary and polyamorous IS her character and her whole storyline basically. It was painful to watch. The only extra character who had at least some depth to her I feel was Lisa.

the miranda character is going through a midlife crisis/ menopausal thing ..a selfish clueless phase of life.. I don't really see it ending well with her and Che.. and she most likely will be having doubts about what she did with Steve.. but she will be alone..

Thank God, she did not win as a governor. Someone, who allows to insult the entire nation of Russian women in the show she produces, should not be in politics. We all live in the country of immigrants and every person brings value. Nor HBO max or the creators of And just like that have never released the statement apologising for this misogyny! Shame on you!

Absolutely. I agree. I am completely stunned of their arrogance and nastiness at not apologising or cutting that scene. I ask myself how could these writers all black and fat write a line as racist and inappropriate and nasty as that one and SJP smiling in that scene, she is ugly as hell and envious of Russian women's beauty.
